  1. My ballot: Jeter - Clearly a yes on the 3,000 hits. Schilling - A yes for me based on the career Kent - He's one of the best 2B of all time Walker - I think he warrants it, based on HOF Monitor and JAWS Rolen - A close call, but yes, also on HOF Monitor and JAWS
  2. I don't think anyone is fooling themselves that Bumgarner is going to deliver like five years ago. And his injuries in 2016-17 are concerning. But he's still pretty decent. 200+ IP. 200+ strikeouts. Sub-4.00 ERA. Good hitter (as far as pitchers go). Just turned 30, so he's not that old. That's a good player. Not great, but good. Most predictions have him coming in around $16-18M per year for 3-4 years. And that's with the qualifying offer. Of course, that might be too high. We saw what happened to Keuchel last year. The draft pick compensation tied around his neck doesn't help him either. Personally, I'm not advocating spending money like this on Bumgarner. I'm concerned about his performance outside of SF, which hasn't been that good the last few years. But even with that, he's probably going to get at least $15M a year. I'm leaning more against Bumgarner - $18 million would allow the Crew to bring back Pomeranz and Moose. Get Gio, Miley, and Lyles back - trade Hader to the Padres for Mejia plus some prospects. Suter and Pomeranz can be the top lefties out of the pen, with Gio as a swingman, and QTC, Perdomo, and Andrews in the wings. Maybe get Didi to replace Arcia at shortstop. The Crew would be better off at this point signing: Lyles (3 years, $19.5 million) Miley (3 years, $18 million) Moose (3 years, $30 million) Didi (3 years, $30 million) Gio (2 years, $12 million) Pomeranz (4 years, $30 million)
  3. BREWERS GET C Mejia (from SD) IF Merrifield (from KC) PADRES GET LHP Hader (from MIL) OF Phillips (from KC) ROYALS GET LHP Claudio (from MIL) 3B/1B Erceg (from MIL) LHP Morejon (from SD) 3B Potts (from SD) OF Ray (from MIL)
  4. Looking over Gittens's stats... He may be worth a flyer in the Rule 5... https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=gitten000chr Very good OBP skills, some power...
  5. The best option for the Brewers now: BREWERS GET: C Mejia 3B Potts SP Lauer PADRES GET: LHRP Hader 3B Erceg
  6. If Vogt can stay healthy... he'd be a decent bargain.
  7. Well, the dropoff from Grandal to the Pina of 2018/2019 is very huge. Nottingham may or may not be average as a #2. Freitas is AAAA at best. The real hope for the system, the Feliciano/Henry/Fry trio, is three years away from significant time in Milwaukee. Grandal, like it or not, was crucial.
  8. They'd still need to go something like 2/$12 or 3/$16.5 at a minimum.
  9. Come on, man! You are certainly playing right into the thought processes of those of us who view you as a troll ... We're looking at a significant downgrade at catcher, and we still have gaping holes at shortstop, first base, and third base. There's no comparable bat on the market to Grandal.
  10. Well, this offseason is looking like a disaster...
  11. Yeah, his jump in offensive production last year seems a little excessive. Still, he's a solid trade chip for the White Sox now, unless they plan on keeping him around as Yasmani's backup. Put it this way, if they DH Grandal a fair bit, it will keep the wear and tear down, and they get a good C for four years.
  12. Agreed! Time for DS to pull another catcher rabbit out of his hat. I'm happy for Yasmani, as he seemed like a great guy, and was awesome in his one year as a Brewer. On to Plan B. All aboard the Jake Nottingham bandwagon! With the DH, this is a VERY good deal for the Sox. Grandal catches two years, DHs the next two. I'd figured about $80 million - and that included Yasmani as the primary 1B for the latter half of the deal as Feliciano/Henry/Fry forced their way up.
  13. That sort of deal was doable for the Crew, IMO. At least it isn't the NL, but it means a downgrade at catcher for sure.
  14. ROFL! There's a better chance I'd score with my entire Freebie 5 list.
  15. I'd go with two teams: One in Montreal (to the NL) One in Vegas. Four divisions in each league: NL East - New York Mets, Montreal, Phillies, Nationals NL South - Miami, Atlanta, Reds, Cardinals NL North - Brewers, Cubs, Pirates, Rockies NL West - Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Giants, Padres AL East - Red Sox, Yankees, Blue Jays, Orioles AL South - Rangers, Astros, Rays, Royals AL North - Indians, White Sox, Tigers, Twins AL West - Mariners, Vegas, Angels, A's Playoffs would have the four division champs and two wild-card teams. The wild-card teams would play the #3 and #4 seeds in play-in games (WC 1 vs #4, WC 2 vs. #3) for the DS matchups.
  16. Seems like a good DP pitcher to come in relief for a SP with 1out in the inning. All those 4.1/5.1IP starts. With the new rules kicking in to complete the inning. He'd fit that mold to just need to face 1batter to get two outs. As the season/experience wears on, maybe he proves a bigger role usage? Or he doesnt make it through the winter meetings. Just a warm body brought in to tryout. A high GB% pitcher can probably go two innings on less than 20 pitches. Nice way to get a lot of innings with little wear and tear on an arm.
  17. This is appalling. It also gives a HUGE advantage to big-market teams.
  18. Honestly... I think the Brewers are fools to go along with this sort of cut. If anything, they should expand their minor-league system. Two DSL teams Two rookie-level teams. A R+ team A short-season A team A full-season A team A full-season A+ team A AA team A AAA team Plus, create baseball academies in Australia, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. Build something extremely extensive... I wonder if it would be possible for them to also maybe buy part owner-ship of some independent league teams, like the Milwaukee Milkmen...
  19. Between the 4th of May and June 13, he started 31 games. That may have led to his injuries. As a platoon player, he might start 10 times a month and pinch hit the rest of the time. Boy he raked against LHP though. I've always liked (feared Pence) and I think he fits a need perfectly on this team. The alternative to fill that spot in a platoon with Grisham is Tyrone Taylor. Though the sample size was microscopic, it's impressive that Taylor only fanned one time in 10 major league AB's. It's also noteworthy that Taylor had a breakout August in San Antonio that was almost Grisham-like: .346/.418/.598. So I might take a flyer on Pence to start the year but if he falters or is injured, Taylor might very well be up to the job. Of course this all assumes Braun will be moved to 1B, a big assumption. Get Taylor regular ABs in San Antonio. Grisham was exploding all year. Pence would be a bargain on a one year deal with a team option. He was one of those guys who got away - 40th-round pick of the Brewers in 2002.
  20. I like him over Ben Gamel as a platoon mate for Grisham/Spanberger. Use Grisham as the #2 CF.
  21. And i they non-tender JBJ, the Crew can get him for a decent deal.
  22. Yoshitomo Tsutsugo might be posted.. he can play 1B.. don't know too much about him.. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/10/japanese-slugger-yoshitomo-tsutsugo-to-be-posted.html Here is his B-R page: https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=tsutsu000yos Mostly played outfield, significant experience at 1B and 3B, but none recent. VERY nice OBP skills and power... bats left-handed, which could be very beneficial in Miller Park. I'd go for that.
  23. Hamels might be worth a two-year deal at $35 million ($15 million/year, $5 million bonus, $10 million deferred ot be paid out over 10 years), with a team option for a third year at $15 million ($5 million buyout). That covers Milwaukee's window.
  24. They'd be compromising their outfield depth by moving Braun to 1B. Cain needs days off and they do have a nice option in Gamel, but honestly Grisham is not proven by any means and if he gets off to a slow start, he'll probably be optioned. They desperately need another RH hitting corner OF if they move Braun to 1B. If they keep him in LF sharing time with Grisham and or Gamel, they need a RH bat at a corner infield spot. *COUGH*Shouldn't have waived Troy Stokes*COUGH*
  25. Bird's able to draw walks, and he has power... But he can't really get above the Uecker line. A left-handed Mark Reynolds. Minor-league deal with NRI at the most.
