  1. Arcia had one of the few hits tonight, and has been hitting the ball better of late. I have no problem with him taking that AB. I feel like he's one of the few who doesn't go up there trying to constantly hit a homer. As far as I'm concerned, for 2020, he's on a short leash. If he struggles to get to the Uecker line, I'm callin' for Moose at short and Braun at third.
  2. I'm sure they will, and it will be fine. This is a season, especially for the last month, that should be remembered and honored. Really? I can understand in 2008, when it was a 1 WC team format. Or even if we had won tonight. I had kind of hoped that we are past the point where we would celebrate being a team that lost the WC play-in game between the #4 and #5 seeded teams in the league. I can't imagine that is a thing in any other stadium, but maybe I am wrong. Not saying that this season shouldn't be celebrated or that it was a disappointment, but I think our goals have gotten a little beyond that. This isn't 2007 anymore. After Yelich's injury... I had written off the playoffs. This team surprised me. Losing Knebel for the season, and then Jeffress getting hurt and never being the same after... we lost 2/3 of the three-headed monster. Burnes had a horrific sophomore slump. We never got it back. Hader had to shoulder it alone for too long. He was arguably a little gassed. Next year, if the Crew can bring back Pomeranz, they have a four-headed monster of Hader, Knebel, Pomeranz, and Peralta. That's if Suter's in the rotation again. If not, the bullpen is a five-headed monster. Sometimes, you need to grade on a curve. This season is one of those times.
  3. I consider the Santana/Gamel performances to be a wash. Largely because they are two different players, each of whom filled a need the team that acquired them had. Zavolas, I think, is the long-term key. If he becomes a part of the Brewers rotation, or a key bullpen asset, or if he helps acquire someone who fills a need, then the Brewers win the trade. If Zavolas flames out, or gets figured out in AAA/MLB, then the deal's a wash.
  4. For all this team went through, just making it to the playoffs was impressive. Especially after the Yelich injury - a part of me tnhat I am ashamed of wrote the season off there. Hader was never used in his best role all year with Knebel needing a Tommy John and Jeffress being hurt and then ineffective. Wahl going down hurt the depth more. This hurts, but it's not as bad as last year's heartbreak. I never wanna have to root for the f***in' Red Sox in a World Series again. Sorry, but after 2004, they're almost as insufferable as the Yankees. Grisham is at worst, a successor to Ben Gamel. With the 26-man roster, there should be no excuse to let LoCain try to play through nagging injuries. I just want to see the Crew bring back Pomeranz, Lyles, Grandal, and Moustakas, get everyone healthy, and kick some butt.
  5. Hmm... might this be a good series to start Moose at short? Hey, I made the suggestion yesterday, and Arcia went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Perhaps we get another big day.
  6. You know, I used to think you made all these suggestions just to get a rise out of the board. Now, I just think you are crazy. Well, Arcia has two hits, 3 RBI and a run after the suggestion today.
  7. You know, on another thread, I suggested the Crew think about using Moose at shortstop next year, and Arcia has a decent game at the plate. It was as if the fear of the balls were removed from his bats. So... should the treatment continue? Will it work on Travis Shaw?
  8. "Thing that aren't going to happen for 100, Alex!" The only portion of that statement that has any chance of happening is Spangenberg getting time at SS. If resigned, Moose is not playing SS. Yes, I realize that he saw a little time there in rookie league league a decade ago. It means nothing today. Highly doubt Gatewood sees any time at SS either. He was moved off of there for a reason. Of course, the day I suggest a bat-first plan for shortstop, Arcia goes and hits a three-run double. Could it be that making that suggestion removes the fear of the ball from Arcia's bats?
  9. Personally, at this point, if Arcia doesn't show improvement, I'd keep Moustakas, and if Shaw rebounds, use Moose at short. Maybe move Gatewood back to short this year to have one option, with playing time at third. Then there's Spangenberg...
  10. Same. I was born in '87 and grew up on the East Coast so I've only really been able to follow the team day-to-day since 2002 when we got Extra Innings (what a first season to get it lol). The growth in this organization has been unreal. Glad to see the team not give up and am looking forward to see just how far we can ride this crazy hot streak. Was born in 1975. Didn't get a chance to really follow the Crew well until I got MLB.tv, etc. But this... this is an amazing feeling. Now, the Crew just has to bear down and #NeverDieEasy.
  11. "Club Dub" in the Milwaukee locker room! EDIT to Add: And the Milwaukee Brewers took to heart a rule from the NFL's GOAT: #NeverDieEasy
  12. I wonder which of the nuggets I'm picking in my Top 25 ballots will be the next Brent Suter... Cam Roegner? Henry Medina? Scott Sunitsch? Noah Zavolas?
  13. I'm wondering if the Crew shouldn't do a little due diligence to see if they can't get Josh Bell to play first base. Send Pittsburgh a package along the lines of Thames, Eduardo Garcia, Corey Ray/Tristan Lutz, Alec Bettinger, and Payton Henry for Bell. Maybe even expand the package to toss in Davies for minor-league 1B Martin Mason. Get a lineup of: cf: Cain/Grisham 2b: Hiura rf: Yelich/Grisham 1b: Bell 3b: Moustakas c: Grandal lf: Braun/Grisham ss: Arcia Pitcher
  14. Just a thought: Suppose the Brewers went for a deal with Pittsburgh this offseason? Brewers get: 1B Josh Bell 1B Martin Mason (minor league) Pirates get: 1B/OF Eric Thames RHP Zach Davies OF Corey Ray SS Eduardo Garcia RHP Alec Bettinger C Payton Henry If the Crew keeps Moose and Grandal, then the lineup looks like this: cf: Cain/Grisham 2b: Hiura rf: Yelich 1b: Bell 3b: Moustakas c: Grandal lf: Braun/Grisham ss: Arcia Pitcher
  15. A training center had advantages, especially for the offseason. I think it can do a lot of good things for player development. But there is still a lot of utility for the farm system as well. Good in the batting cage or the simulators is one thing, but good in actual game conditions, with the crowd, and all that entails, is something completely different. Furthermore, the talent can be anywhere in the draft. Brent Suter was a 31st-round pick. Think he'd get a shot at one of those "training center" models? On the Top 25, there's Dylan File, a 21st round pick. Clayton Andrews was a 17-round pick. Max Lazar and Alec Bettinger are 11th round picks. Would the "training center" model even detect these players?
  16. I was among those who wanted to see Kimbrel signed, especially after Knebel and Jeffress went down. I'm glad it didn't happen.
  17. There are no guarantees in baseball. Shrug, get over it, and let's win the darn game, to paraphrase Becca Kufrin.
  18. Hmmm... Thames with two blasts today. Maybe they should let Shaw use Eric's bats.
  19. Low-leverage and working with the pitching coach this year. Lots of off-season work at the pitching lab. Work him into high-leverage during spring training.
  20. When I look at it, I feel good about 2020's staff. A rotation of Woodruff, Houser, Gio, Davies, and Lyles - with Anderson, Burnes, Peralta, Suter, and Supak competing for spots. A bullpen anchored by Hader, Knebel, and Pomeranz. Figure one or two of the starters who don't get in the rotation find their way there. Add in a few of the Jackson/Black/Wahl/Claudio on the 40-man currently or prospects like Andrews/QTC/Olczak (down the road).
  21. I don't think the Crew can count on Nelson being back to form. I'd go with Woodruff, Houser, Gio, Davies, and Lyles to start the season in the rotation, with a combo of Anderson, Burnes, Peralta, Suter, and Supak as "backups" in either AAA or the bullpen. For the bullpen, you start with Hader, Knebel, Pomeranz, and Devin Williams. The rest come from the backup starters and Claudio/Guerra/Wahl/Black/Jay Jackson. Nelson may fall here, if not as a garbage man, then as a middle reliever. Now some pitchers, like Claudio or Anderson, might be useful trade bait. Nelson, it may be better to DFA him, and bring him back on a minor-league deal with a NRI. His service time was not handled well, and between him and Troy Stokes, Stearns made some real boo-boos on the roster management front this year.
  22. And he's gotten better the more they've used him. He's transformed himself into a legit weapon out of the pen. Bravo to the Brewers front office and pro scouting staff for recognizing that a guy with good stuff but was struggling in a starting role could successfully convert himself into a shutdown reliever. The big question is: Can they re-sign him this offseason?
  23. True as I can see it. It's possible we could tie the Nats. If they lose two to the Cards, they could win the rest and end with an identical 93-69 record. In that scenario, though, we'd definitely pass either the Cubs or the Cards. Winning out, as I look at the math, seems to me like worst case scenario is hosting the WC game. Edit: And I'm wrong. We could win out and finish WC 2 if the Nats also win out or go 12-1. We'd still pass the Cubs/Cards, though. If they win out, and pass the Cards/Cubs, then they are NL Central champions. NO NEED TO HOST A WILD CARD GAME!!!!!
  24. HELL [bLEEP]ING YEAH!!!! Couldn't say it better. You have to wonder/hope that Grandal and Moose decide to go for one more year and accept the mutual options... To quote the NFL's GOAT: "Never Die Easy" #DoItForYeli
  25. I wonder if it might not be a bad idea to look through the Indy leagues and sign a few folks to start them in full-season A ball next year. Especially when they are released after initially impressive short stints.
