  1. Not if he comes back and pitches poorly so no trades for him and the DBacks pay $8.5m
  2. Just to add to this since his slow start Lucroy has been hitting well (June:0.263 0.339 0.463 July: 0.239 0.426 0.394 Last 28 days: 0.309 0.434 0.485). So while Salome doesn't look ready for MLB Lucroy looks ready to promote. This is better than having no catching in the minors but the Brewers could easily have 2 catchers ready by June 2010.
  3. Looper has stunk this year. He could very well be done as a starter after losing even more velocity on his fastball. He's been replacement level and a big reason why the Brewers have underperformed. His option should not be picked up.
  4. No, definitely not. The bottom line is, his UZR/150 says that he has been terrible this year. As was mentioned earlier, given the sample size, that does not say much about his performance in the future at third, but although I don't have the UZR data to back it up, I doubt many premiere fielding 3B's have ever posted numbers like that even in a small sample. Basically what I'm saying here is that both Bill Hall and Ryan Braun can go through an 0 for 30, but that type of performance in a small sample is much more likely to happen for a Bill Hall than a Ryan Braun. Understanding that samples of this size for UZR are similar to 20-30 AB's for a player, it would be ridiculous to conclude that Casey McGehee is a bad defensive 3B, but it is somewhat more likely that he is a bad defensive 3B than a good defensive 3B. Hopefully that rant is somewhat coherent. The problem with defensive data is that the 0-30 actually happened. By that I mean if we have a .280 hitter on the season we can argue whether that's a good projection going forward but we do know he got a hit in 28% of his ABs. Defensive stats are more like saying guy hit .280 based upon the velocity and direction the ball traveled when it left his bat so we can only estimate he hit .280. I wish Dave Cameron understood this fact.
  5. Except it likely included a shortstop going to Seattle. That's no longer needed for next year.
  6. What is the point of this comment? Didn't you just write that speed ages very well? The point is that most treat him like he has a high ceiling but his current line likely represents his appex and he'll start to fall off. Now if his defense is as good as it seems he'll still be good even if his OPS is closer to 730 then 750 but his true defensive value at this point is unknown.
  7. I think part of it is Parra isn't allowed or is afraid to shake off Kendall. And Kendall believes that Parra has to throw all his pitches even when one might not be working so he can "have it later"
  8. If the DBacks are buying him out its because they think he's not going to pitch or pitch well at all.
  9. Morgan is older than you think most likely. He turns 30 next year.
  10. Why? Speed players age very well and it not like he's 25 now. In 2016 he'll be 29 and hopefully have developed more power.
  11. Anyone notice who has caught Parra during those 3 good outings compared to the other 2?
  12. I selfishly don't want to deal with the media and this board if Bedard was here. A guy who often takes himself out at 100 pitches in a city that thought Sheets didn't give enough last year with 198 innings?
  13. Salome has had once decent month in AAA in June and then got injured and has been in and out of the lineup ad doing actual catching. There is no reason to rush him if you can find some veteran out there.
  14. It depends if they burn more service time bringing him up in September.
  15. More likely another Scott Podsednik. Or ask the Royals how hanging onto Aviles is working out.
  16. Crawford's career numbers: .296/.334/.438 Hart's career numbers .275/.325/.475 Crawford hasn't played CF in 5 years, he doesn't like playing CF.
  17. The guy you don't have listed, Escobar is the most intriguing. My guess is the Angles keep Lackey and let Escoabr walk. Given this shallow market but bad economy is difficult to guess what a guy coming off injury at his age will get.
  18. Hart is making all of $3.25m this year. Hart is likely to make $12m for the next 2 years while Crawford will make $10m next year. Seems like a large reduction in salary to me for very little change in production.
  19. Escobar isn't an on base guy, he's a number 8 hitter at this stage or 7 given the black hole that is Kendall. Heether, Counsell, McGehee, Hall, and Gamel are all better options with all but Gamel being very good defensively. And the Brewers have a lots of speed, they just don't run
  20. Yes Looper was a stop gap but he's still performing 2-3 wins worse than expected. They thought they were getting 2-3 wins above replacement and instead ended up with replacement.
  21. Well the plan was to get a second tier guy this past season but they whiffed on Lowe who didn't want to talk and Johnson who wanted to be in California. So they took the money got Hoffman and Looper. Now Looper has completely collapsed. Projections had him with FIPs in the range of 4.47-4.70, so basically what is considered a 3-4 starter. His FIP this year has been 5.78. So Looper pitchign so far below expectations looks to cost the Brewers 2-3 wins by himself.
  22. People tend to really over estimate Escobar's bat. Having Hardy and Escobar in the same lineup never made any sense even when Weeks got hurt.
  23. He'd cost the minimum, Philly is paying his salary this year. And he'd field better and likely hit somewhat better than Catalanotto who is done but there isn't any reason to do it.
  24. You want him back and then you want to insult him with an offer far below value? He'll end up being worth just shy of $15m this year.
  25. Katin in AAA: .254/.308/.518 Cameron in MLB: .257/.363/.462 Its not close. Cameron has been getting on base at a great rate and yet Kendall has lead off games....
