  1. Except that $10m for Cameron is the best return possible. Cain isn't ready and there is no reason to burn a year of a player who isn't ready when you can have better options (see Hardy, JJ).
  2. The point was that removing Hall's contract really won't help that much because there just isn't that many places to spend the money anyway. Snyder would be an upgrade but he would likely want more years than the Brewers would want to give him.
  3. Its not like the free agent class is deep next year. The Brewers are only really looking pitching, catching and CF. Cameron is the best option in CF. Catching is the usual suspects. For pitching you have the talent but lack of innings of Harden and Bedard. You have Kelvim Escobar coming off an injury. You have Joel Pinero pitching out of his mind. And you have John Lackey who I don't see leaving LA but anything is possible.
  4. Of course I'd prefer shields, the risk is less and the upside is actually greater since he is controlled through 2014 (option years 2012-2014). But I doubt the Rays move him and he should cost more than Kazmir to get. I do think they'll move Crawford but at a price that likely overstates his value. I would do a Shields and Crawford for Escobar/Hardy, and Lawrie trade in a heartbeat but I doubt Tampa would.
  5. The Giants were looking at Freddy Sanchez but don't want his contract next year. Time to ship out Lopez!
  6. And he's pitched like Suppan this year. And he wasn't as good last year as he was before. You're basically pushing all in on Kazmir returning to his 2005-2007 form. Your taking on a large contract and giving up huge talent. Could you make a case for taking on Kazmir? Sure but it entails either taking on his risk of a contract or giving up talent to avoid that risk not taking on the contract and giving up top notch talent.
  7. I ignored it because its a lateral move at best.
  8. How does adding a guy who has lost significant velocity on his fastball make the team better? Kazmir's fastball is averaging 2 mph less than what it was in 2007. That's scary on a guy whose owed $22m over the next 2 years. No way do I give up a bunch of top prospects to make that bet.
  9. Trying to figure Hart out is really difficult. He had a great April followed by a terrible May and has followed that with ok June and July. But even there his patience at the plate has been great something he really hasn't had before (and there was a fear he was turning into Jeff Francouer at the end of the year last season). His OBP is 70 points abive his BA and about 100 pints higher in July. But now his power has wilted a bit and his average is lower. So right now Hart looks to be an average RFer with upside if his power comes around.
  10. Looper-salary relief if lucky Hoffman- a B prospect possibly better if the Cardinals wild overpaying has set the market Cameron-Less than Hoffman because fewer teams need a CFer while everyone would take a bullpen arm Kendall-some nice laughter from the other end of the phone
  11. Yeah but they didn't and whats left after this year looks to be really bad. Minaya could be looking to get fired before his contract expires so he doesn't have the collapse on his record
  12. Yeah but Clement isn't any type of catcher now and isn't hitting well enough for a 1B/DH about to turn 26 . EDIT: Clement this year 0.284 0.363 0.496 Nelson last year 0.288 0.382 0.482
  13. Yes Washburn isn't going to get a huge multiyer deal, thats the whole point of why he won't get offered arby since his arby award is likely double his value. The Brewers are in this mess by relying on mid 30s pitchers with mediocre stuff, they really don't need another one next year. The M's also have Fields which is likely why Morrow is available since they have doubts about him being a starter going forward.
  14. He will most likely be a Type B. He's making $10.35m so would likely be looking at $12m or so in arby and since he's unlikely to get a multiyear deal at his age would likely take it. Unless he was willing to settle for Looper type money I doubt he'd be back next year. He's averaged above $7m in value for the three years prior to this one.
  15. Hardy should be more than enough by himself to get Washbuirn and Morrow. Washburn doesn't have any value after this season because no way would the Mariners offer him arbitration. Morrow has had terrible control throughout his career, we're talking McClung like. If anything more than roster filler would be included it makes no sense. (Keep in mind Hardy brings with him 2 picks in 2011).
  16. Branyan is no longer a 3B. You can't ignore him being healthy for the first time ever coincided with him moving off 3B.
  17. Lopez is a bad SS and isn't as good as Weeks at 2B. Why is this an issue? Moving Weeks in the hope that someone how Lopez has turned his career around after 1 season makes little sense.
  18. All that happened is his luck ran out. As a starter his BABIP was .346 as a relievers its .265. His K/BB is still 1 in both cases.
  19. No college interns tend to care because they need recommendations to get future jobs. A job at the JS sports department might as well be lifetime tenure. As I've said before, Gary Howard is a terrible editor.
  20. In what universe is Garret Anderson the better hitter? Anderson's career line: .296/.327/.468. Cameron's career line .250/.341/.448 despite playing in tough pitchers parks every year since 2000. Anderson last year hit .293/.325/.461 as a LFer. Cameron is currently hitting .257/.362/.461 as a CFer.
  21. Why can't the Brewers risk bringing him back at $10m+?
  22. Cameron is the third best Brewer position player this year and it isn't even really close. I don't get the hate for a 800+ OPS and 360 OBP CFer who plays great defense at the cost of an average starter.
  23. If you buy a stock thats trading at $50 for $100 you overpaid no matter if that stock soard up to $125 or crashes to $12 in 3 years.
  24. Gamel's had an OBP 100 points higher than his batting average. His out of zone swing percentage is 22.1%, Fielder's is 22.8%. Ranking them right now it would be Gamel, Wallace and then LaPorta. Gamel and Wallace will come down to if they stick at 3B, if they bith stick its likely Gamel, if only Wallace sticks its him. LaPorta is hitting fine in AAA but isn't having the season you'd hope for an All Star type 1B/DH considering he's 24. If he sticks in RF it changes things but he's been mostly playing 1B in AAA.
