  1. Because the Brewers need to replace 3 starters in 2 years already. Trading Parra for Lee makes it 4. The Brewers have maybe one internally who could be ready by 2011 if Green keeps it going. The Brewers can't get that many starters in FA. So you have to throw up NRIs constantly against the wall at that point.
  2. Having coaches and players vote is the problem. They see very little of the games. You could have teams' scouting departments vote on it. I'd be fine with McLouth in RF, the point is going from Cam to McLouth in CF would be like a 3 win swing in defense. It would be ugly.
  3. Trading Parra kills off the Brewers chances for years. In 2011 that means 4! starters would need to be replaced.
  4. Not sure your point here. You want to add players to teh voters? The award is so screwed up because managers and coaches vote for it.
  5. He made a handful of flashy plays. He was the best player on the Pirates, Beltran and Victorino got theirs anyway and Cameron missed a month. So it was him or who? The only other CFers to hit were Kemp and Ross (maybe Shumaker) who only played CF 2/3rds the time and therefore couldn't be good.
  6. No he's the poster boy for why Gold Gloves are given to bats and not gloves. Everything measures him to be a win below average in CF.
  7. McClung's been more lucky than good.
  8. Hardy has been on fire since he started of terribly. The Brewers have a good offense and a very good defense that covers up for some really bad starting pitchers. Add in a good bullpen and there you have it. The problem is that part of that is still luck based as this last trip through the rotation has shown us. Lopper, Suppan, and Parra haven't pitched well but Suppan and and Looper have been lucky.
  9. Same reason I doubt Webb is going anywhere (unless the DBacks think his injury is that severe that he won't be healthy even next year).
  10. No way would McLouth takes over in CF for the Brewers. He stinks defensively.
  11. What other holes? There's CF, catcher and maybe closer.
  12. They've changed the rule-almost all games are now resumed
  13. And if you have Villanueva go 2 innings but the game gets called in the 8th to resume tonight you're screwed. Villy likely can't go at all today then and whoever you use to finish game 1 you don't want to use in game 2. Given how slippery the ball was the game likely should have been called. Would I have risked it? Probably but its not really that clear cut.
  14. A few things: 1 Julio sucks 2 Given the weather the game might have been called at any time so Macha likely didn't want to use any pitcher for more than one inning in case they had to go 1.5 games tomorrow 3 Given 2 , the 6th inning vs the bottom of the order with a 2 run lead is pretty much the best point to use Julio 4 The bullpen phone not working just really makes it absurdist
  15. And this is based on what? His ability to take two established pitchers in Suppan and Looper and turn them into HR machines?
  16. Keep in mind Melvin also pulled the plug on a cheap Miller for a backup whose OPS was 100 points higher than Kendall's currently is.
  17. What should he say? "We thought we had a chance but we came here and saw the Brewers are just so much better than us we might as well call it a season."
  18. They can say that but take what the Cubs offered for Harden and then discount it by 1 less year and you have what the rate should be.
  19. Kendall has always been an extreme GB hitter. It just that as his speed left and then his little power there was nothing left
  20. Which is why there is no reason why Parra should be included in such a deal. If the Brewers can't make a deal some other way (and given the meager White Sox package, they should be able to) you don't and move onto Bedard or whoever.
  21. Defense is carrying the Brewers. Looper's FIP is 5.64 and Suppan's is 6.65. Now Looper will likely stop giving up HRs at the current frightening rate but Suppan's lost even more speed on his FB so even if his HR rate drops below 2(!) we still have a bad pitcher.
  22. Again its easy to upgrade the rotation but it hard because paying $12.5 million for Suppan to take Julio's spot looks bad
  23. Kendall's never been the same since his ankle injury
