  1. @JJHardy7 By waiting until June they got Gamel for another year. Two months of a Lamb/Hall platoon vs two months of Gamel as a rookie is nothing. The reason Weeks' injury was important is because they wanted to fill in for his offense. They had no idea that Counsell would continue to hit or that McGehee would go against all prior history and hit like Chase Utley. Not sure how you can get upset about this. @Kramnoj I assume any pitching will force a DFA of Narveson since he is out of options. The reason to bring up Heether is that he can play 3B.
  2. I think its assumed that Joe Koshansky's 40 man spot is extremely tenuous. And Gamel was brought up a bit earlier than expected due to Weeks' injury so his service time will be really close if he stays up
  3. I'm not saying he can't play 3B its that coaches seem to believe he can't handle 3B. He wouldn't be removed constantly otherwise.
  4. The whole plan was easy to see. First it was to platoon Lamb and Hall until Gamel proved himself in AAA and then he would be up in June and Lamb cut. Likely thats why Branyan was basically handed off to Seattle. Then Lamb showed himself to be done so McGehee got the job. Not a big deal since McGehee still had options and he would just be sent down when Gamel was ready. Then Weeks got hurt. Gamel came up but McGehee couldn't go down because he was need at 2B. Then McGehee started to hit. So the Brewers were stuck to a degree.
  5. The defense has been top notch for two years now. Its the only thing keeping Looper and Suppan from looking like total crap. Its also likely the big reason why Gamel isn't getting palying time.
  6. Weeks came up because Melvin was able to steal Ohka from the Nats because Robinson had a fit because Ohka was upset about being pulled. If that didn't happen Weeks would have stayed in AAA until either they found a taker for Spivey or the trade deadline passed. And the difference between the Brewers rotation this year and Philly's last year is slight.
  7. JJ Hardy Age 20 in Hunstville (back when it was an extreme pitching environment): 279 .368 .428 .796 Escobar Age 21 in Hunstville 328 .363 .434 .797 JJ Hardy Age 21 in AAA (shortened) 277 .330 .495 .825 Escobar Age 22 in AAA .297 .345 .419 .764
  8. They have 5 people capable of filling in at 2B (McGehee, Counsell, Hall, Iribarren, and Heether) at an average or above level. Unless that 2B is named Utley you're not getting much improvemnt there.
  9. Even Pujols is streaky. He just tends to vary between All Time Great and Unbelievable. Last year his OPS by month:1.117, 1.160, 1.003, .978, 1.236, 1.130.
  10. I think something like Dillard in a normal season. It maybe more just because the pitchers out there keep dropping.
  11. Lugo is owed like $3m more
  12. Hardy was the Brewers best player last year and it wasn't even really close. No he won't bring a #1 pitcher back because no one trading for Hardy is going to be rebuilding. since Hardy only has 1 year remaining/
  13. Can we stop this meme that Hardy did nothing in the minors? Hardy hit better than Escobar despite being younger at every level
  14. Of course thats is exactly what happened to Hardy when he was first brought up and its what happened to Weeks last year.
  15. He looks different than Narveson?
  16. Morgan is 29. He's all he's going to be.
  17. Weeks in September last season:.283/.415/.528 Weeks actually shoudl have played more if possible. Unfortunately neither Durham nor Weeks coudl play anywhere else.
  18. Jeff Francouer is Bill Hall without an infielders glove.
  19. Why does Francouer obviously have talent? In fact it looks pretty much like he doesn't have talent. The problem with Vasquez is that do the Braves really not need him if they hope to compete next season? They are loaded with pitching talent but I'm not sure they are willing to part with the 200+ quality innings Vasquez brings.
  20. No in a month we'll see Tony Gwynn making hints how his son needs more palying time despite not hitting just like he started to do with Milwaukee.
  21. Dumping is pretty much all they can do. Wells is likely just having another of his off years (something that happens every other year). But he's owed $12.5m next year +$8.5m in deferred signing bonus, $23m in 2011, and $21m in 2012-2014. Add in a decline in defense and a full no trade clause and no one will touch that. Rios has a better chance to have a decent season, that said he's owed $9.7m, $12m, $12m, $12.5m, $12.5m and another $1m buyout.
  22. Well Phil Rodgers showed why he is a respected baseball journalist by calling for the Cubs to dump him in a column. Not trade him mind you, just put him on waivers and see if any team takes him and then maybe work something out.
  23. There is a better alternative, that's the whole point. Heether over 150-200 PAs would be almost the same as Gamel and there's no reason to worry about development, service time or defense.
  24. McGehee has "proven" squat. He's had a very good 121 PAs. But that means next to nothing. TGJ just had a great 133 PAs. Yes there's a chance that he finally put it all together. But there's a larger chance that he collapses after this year(or in a month) and returns back to 774 OPS in AAA McGehee.
