  1. I also think people might be writing off Fukudome early. I always thought the 900 OPS projections were silly, but keep in mind that in his first season Matsui hit .287/.353/.435. Not Fukudome bad but below what he hit going forward. I still think Fukudome will put up a typical .350/.450 line which while not spectacular is decent enough. Now he's likely going to be slightly overpaid.
  2. Not sure what people expected. The Brewers have one open position and even there if they think Gamel can really handle 3B its a stopgap position that can be filled with a platoon if need be. They have enough money to look at FA starters and relievers but arby decision make a huge difference when looking at relievers.
  3. Yep not sure why we should care if the Cubs get Teahen to play a corner OF spot.
  4. And Dejesus isn't an upgrade over Hart. DeJesus isn't better than any of the current Brewer outfielders. Yes he's left handed but that really doesn't mean much. He only is preferred to Cameron because of his contract where he's signed going forward and is cheap.
  5. Lots of players are cheaper when you waste a year of a top prospect by sitting him on the bench.
  6. Hall could backup SS
  7. ARod or Sizemore weren't going to get it so Pedroia was a decent choice.
  8. Yes Jones missed a quarter of the games and was still more valuable than all but 3 or 4 players.
  9. The evidence is that the last MI who had an really high BABIP in Huntsville came crashing down in AAA last year. And Iribarren actually has some plate discipline.
  10. Yes Tom there were many great candidates, however you managed to avoid mentioning most of them. You didn't even vote for C Jones, H Ramirez, Berkman, or Utley (hey he was on a playoff team too!)
  11. Except Robertson has a worse contract without any upside.
  12. Yeah Scrubs got pushed around heavily by NBC and teh writers strike. NBC was going to dump it last year but just to stick it to ABC they didn't. As to the cancelling of the Simpsons, yeah it has problems but given that you're going to get some sort of bad Fox sitcom replacement its not like the alternative is better.
  13. People need to realize that if Cano doesn't return to his pre 2008 level his contract is an anchor. Since 2006 was so BABIP driven, its questionable how good he is. James' projection for 2009: .295/.333/.461. For comparison Weeks:.257/.364/.435. Cano's contract is $6m in 09, $9m in 10, $10 in 11, $14m in 12 or $2m buyout, $15m in 13 or $2m buyout.
  14. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised that there were enough intelligent writers to give Pujols the award. The fact that Howard finished 2nd and Braun 3rd isn't quite enough to take my happiness away. TH shows himself to be as clueless as expected.
  15. Johnson isn't a #4, he's a very good #2. Johnson would be the second best pitcher on the Brewers by a huge amount.
  16. Fangraphs did a quick look at what Sabathia is worth, and find him to be a 6year/$162 million value. So the Yankee offer is lowball http://www.fangraphs.com/...-agent-values-cc-sabathia
  17. Hall's RZR for 3B was .722, Aybar's was .700. PMR's have Hall at 103.51 compare to Aybar at 100.21 which translates to about 9.5 runs over 4000 outs, or more likely to be about 8 runs in a season. Aybar is an average 3B defensively. Now if he could come cheaply he would be ok in a platoon role, just hard to see him coming cheaply.
  18. McClung is assumed to spurn the ordinary house cat and instead puts a bobcat down his pants.
  19. Tracy was as bad as Fielder at 1B last season so I don't really think he is a true option anymore. Teahen was supposed to be a defensive whiz coming up but his time in KC puts him well below average though his bat is the one that really is intriguing. Ayabar was average defensively at 3b (a win below Hall with the glove over a full season) and his offense just isn't there. Outside of moving Hart off the team and Braun to right to make way for Dunn/Abreu its hard to see a really better option than Branyan. There is one other option: A trade of Hall to Oakland for Chavez with the hope Chavez returns to his pre- 2008 level. But now that Oakland got Holliday they might want to hope for magic from Chewie again.
  20. The story in the paper, which is what was picked up by the AP and then copied by ESPN was written straight. This is TH's fault.
  21. So its ESPN's fault for reading a straight MJS story as straight?
  22. No the problem is opening up a spot for a mediocre player like Kapler. He's the same player he's always been; a 750 OPS guy who can't stay healthy.
  23. The biggest worry is whetehr the Mexican coaches overwork him not thats he's pitching.
  24. Its something I know. They are treated as earning income in those other states. Its like living in Racine but working Illinois writ large.
  25. Check the big receiver, there should at least be one input for the cable box and likely one other. If so you can use a DVD player through the receiver for the sound and hook the video to the TV
