  1. Yep, Add in two Rule 5 guys as well, worst happens you send them back after Spring Training.
  2. Lee doesn't even try on most plays so not sure how you think he wouldn't be worse.
  3. No way Seattle does that. My guess is Beltre would require a Cain type plus Nelson and Irribarren. Or maybe a Hall, Salome, Gillespie, Nelson and Irribarren, for Beltre and Bedard.
  4. Yeah, an easy way to see it is if the team is below .500 they give up a second round, above .500 a first round.
  5. As long as it isn't Dontrelle Willis coming back I think Pittsburgh wins this one.
  6. Sheets for a three year deal makes sense. If all it takes is three years, $45m, do it already.
  7. In no way does Hart, Nelson, and TGJ turn into Adrian Gonzalez. Fielder brings in Santana but the better player Gonzalez only costs a RFer coming off a horrendous year, and two borderline major league palyers? EDIT: I missed Escobar, which makes it somewhat possible. Tough any deal that requires four! teams to make sense isn't likely to happen.
  8. PMR had him at the top everyday guy in the NL.
  9. Umm trading for Beltre would make the defense better
  10. Seattle won't eat much if any of Beltre's salary unless its for a great prospect.
  11. If all it takes is a 2 year deal to get Sheets and he isn't in Milwaukee next season that will be very, very sad
  12. No the reason most owners are "fans" is thats how MLB wants it. They want an individual owner representing the group.
  13. Ugh. more than anything this might mean moving Gamel up before he's ready.
  14. Dunn's actually better than most think, which tells you how bad most LFers really are. PMRs have him at average.
  15. Hart is different in that he has speed and can man RF without looking foolish.
  16. Hart is the one that goes if they sign Dunn. Why would a team trade for Fielder when they can get Abreu, Giambi, Ibanez, or Burrell cheap? Or go spend on Ramirez or Dunn. Or take Nick Johnson for one year for nearly nothing from the Nats.
  17. Attanasio has never been one to take money from himself and spend it on the team. He's made huge profits so far. The worry is declining attendance and season ticket renewals, not the hedge Attanasio has against market risk.
  18. This is absolutely the wrong year to trade Fielder with all the 1B/LF/DH types out there as FAs. We haven't even mentioned Giambi. You could make a case for Hardy since MI is bleak but this FA class is teaming with closers, starters (when was the last time 3 starters with ace stuff like Sheets, Sabathia, and Burnett were all on the market?), and all hit no field sluggers.
  19. See I hate WPA for hitters because the definition of a situation is so out of there hands. For example, a hitter hits a 2 run HR in the top of the 4th in a 4-0 game they're leading. That has no WP value. Now if the other team scores 5 runs in the bottom of the fifth it still has no value. Say instead the team is now the home team and bats second in the bottom of the 5th after a 5 run outburst by the opponents in the top of the inning, that 2 run HR now has about .75 WPA.
  20. The Fed doesn't directly control the price level. They influence it. But demand side concerns are what drives it and right now teh Fed can't do anything to increase aggregate demand. Welcome to a liquidity trap.
  21. Yeah Abreu isn't a RFer anymore and his bat doesn't work that well at LF. Add in his power delcine (ISOs of .164, .162, and.176 last three seasons) and I fear he has a decent chance of completely falling off a cliff.
  22. Yeah there's a huge difference between Kennedy and Hughes. I don't see the Yankees giving up Hughes for one year of Cameron when they wouldn't make him available in a Santana deal. Kennedy isn't bad but at best he'd be like Parra was in 2008 and Kennedy only pitched like 108 innings last year so how well prepared he is for a full season of work is questionable. Such a trade is much more for 2010 and beyond than 2009.
  23. Do free agent eligible players who accept arbitration get the same no trade protection?
  24. What do you mean for real though? McClung's FIP was 4.48 mostly in relief which is basically what you expect a replacement level reliever to look like. Coffey's was 4.97 for the year which is bad but he has been better before.
  25. I see that many here don't actually watch Foster's. Because this fits.
