1) This has a lot more to do with the Wild Card that people want to admit. More playoff teams means more variance means more different winners. 2) A hard cap would kill baseball as we know it. A hard cap means you'll never see a Sabtahia trade again.
And people are ignoring the fact that rushing Hardy like they did ended up being a really bad decision. Hardy wasn't ready and it cost the Brewers a full year of his service. Yes there is alway talks about how Hardy wasn't expected to hit, etc. but he was really a part time player in 2005.
The only problem with a Branyan/Hall platoon is who replaces Branyan when he misses time with injury. Lamb would be ok, but carrying Lamb limits your bench. that and hoping whoever manages realizes that Hall is a very good defensive 3B and so should be willing to bring him in late in games.
But Bunts aren't as valuable as singles so they screw up OPS calculations. Its why Alex Sanchez hit .300 that year and was still not very good. The big thing is you can't move men on base more than one base on a bunt.
Based on what would Martin suddenly get 100 points of OPS? The guy has no home road split to speak off, there is little proof he isn't what he he is, a very good catcher who shouldn't be moved to devalue his offense.
I think you're being ridiculously hyperbolic. Only trades with about three teams? That's not even close to being right.NOBODY trades with Doug Melvin! His chief trading partner is the Rangers!... the Rangers and Dbacks...DBacks and Rangers... Our two trading partners are the DBacks and Rangers... and Blue Jays! Our three trading partners are the DBacks, and Rangers, and Blue Jays... and White Sox... Our four... no... Amongst our trading partners... Hmf... Amongst our partners... are such teams as Dbacks, Rang... I'll come in again.
Rosenthal only says that because baseball reporters are allergic to actually looking at the Baseball America website to try to find out about minor leaguers. The Brewers could trade Jeffress, Salome, Escobar, Greene and Gabe Kapler for Peavy and national headlines would read "Peavy traded for Gabe Kapler and 4 minor leaguers"
Why would the Giants want Hardy? Are we assuming that Sabean is being a fool again? The Giants have holes everywhere, not sure how a SS signed for two years during which they might win 81 games helps them.
The Yankees have a huge amount of salary coming off (Giambi $21m, Abreu $16m, Pettitte $16m, IRod $6m or so, Mussina $11m, Pavano $11m) and are moving into a new stadium.
Not sure why the Sox would want Hart unless they are convinced he can play CF. Bay and Drew are there already. And yeah Youkilis isn't going anywhere except maybe 3B permanently.
Well if anyone is interested in having it right now, the Costco in Grafton had like 5 old 20 GB 360 packages left on clearance. $220 for the Pro, an extra controller and a plug-n-play kit.
I think Cashman is the highest paid at $2m per year (Theo's salary could be higher). In general GMs seem to be underpaid, especially in relation to managers, considering how important they are. Mostly due to the fact that there are so many people willing to take the job.
As to whether Jack Z is destined to get a GM job, not really. He is 57 in a position that now highly favors younger people. And if he reaches 60 without getting a GM job it probably won't happen even when teams are looking specifically for youth.
I really don't get this rush on Escobar, whose line in AA isn't that great even before you account for a BABIP of .375. Gamel I could see given the Brewers have no one at 3B and he actually hit. I wouldn't necessarily agree with it but its understandable. But Escobar?
No OBP and SLG pretty much is the whole argument. Everything else just doesn't matter enough to weigh when the players are as dissimilar as Pierre and Cameron. Cameron is a good player, Pierre is a bad player how they make their outs doesn't matter.
