  1. They are connected because there are only two pitchers who can really be sent down, Parra and Villanueva. If McClung is kept, assuming a 12 man staff, the only opening is long relief with Shouse, Turnbow, Riske, Gange, Tores, and Mota cemented in barring injury. That means that Vargas has to go to the rotation instead of being long relief. That pushes either Parra or Villanueva out to Nashville with the other going down when Yo returns.
  2. You need to pay closer attention. Hall gets ripped constantly. We had two threads in the past 5 days calling for trading Weeks. Gross is attacked all the time. Certain people were overjoyed when Rotino was optioned. I think Turnbow gets defended a bunch. I don't think people care about Choate in any way.
  3. My problem with keeping McClung means that Vargas pitches in the rotation and McClung can cause the bullpen to blow up if he is actually needed for long relief.
  4. Of course not all people who post on message boards, just the ones who agree with me.
  5. Lofton isn't better than Gross though at this point. So you're stuck with a $3 million player who shouldn't get to play after Cameron gets back.
  6. Cameron is likely to have the highest OBP of anyone not named Weeks, Hart, Braun and Fielder. And if Cameron's K's mean no hit and runs all the better.
  7. McClung over his career has walked 5.48 per 9. I have no idea how you can trust McClung to give you 3 innings, which is what you need from a long reliever. Yes you can't teach velocity but no one has been able to teach McClung control.
  8. A 800 OPS as a 21 year old in High A is nice but it doesn't scream star. He has along way to go and he isn't going to get taller which still calls into question how much of his power can be sustained.
  9. This is from Haudricourts latest blog. I am shocked that they would keep Escobar with the big league club if J.J. is not ready for opening day. While he has certainly been fantastic this spring, he still needs some seasoning. And barring a major injury, I don't see him playing a role for the Brewers this year. So why start his arbitration clock before you have to? I just assumed Nunez would stay up a few days if needed with Counsell starting. It is somewhat surprising, but there are 40 man issues at work. Escobar is already set to use an option this season and Nunez would need to be added to the 40 man and then exposed to waivers when Hardy comes back. If Hardy looks to be back soon, Escobar won't miss any minor league games anyway. As long as Escobar is just there for emergencies its ok, but if this means losing Dillion that would be bad.
  10. Yost in today's MJS says: "I think Micheal is more defensive (minded) Munson's a little more offensive (minded)" Did Rivera become "good" defensively since he didn't hit this spring? Or is Munson really that bad?
  11. Vargas should not be in the rotation if it can at all be helped. Parra and Villanueva can be in the rotation until Gallardo returns. Giving Vargas a starting job to keep McClung on the team makes little sense.
  12. I think people are too excited by Salome. He's a guy who has done ok so far in A ball. If he was anything but a catcher or SS he would look to have stalled.
  13. My preference is Villy in the rotation until Yo returns and then either he or Parra back down with Vargas always in long relief. I just can't imagine having to count on McClung to give you 3-4 innings.
  14. There is likely insurance on Capuano's contract to some degree. In general they only pay off in a case like this where this miss the entire season. The Brewers can pay him anything next year as long as they don't offer him arbitration. EDIT: Oh and if Villy isn't on the team to start the season that means they gave McClung the long relief slot and I'm going to throw up in mouth.
  15. The difference is Steve Kerr knows everybody in the NBA. Simmons knows the guy who sold him his Clipper season tickets.
  16. Keep in mind this only a few million more a year than Carlos Lee. So even if Cabrera does end up getting moved like he probably should, its still not out of line.
  17. If Hardy did lose 10 pounds, even if he is full healthy today, it will take at least a week to get back into any kind of shape.
  18. Vargas decided the game was going too quickly
  19. Either Gwynn or Counsell looks to hit 2nd, so I assume Yost would split his left handers up moving Fielder back to 4th.
  20. Right now the Opening Day lineup looks to be: 2B Weeks SS Counsell LF Braun 1B Fielder RF Hart 3B Hall CF Gwynn P Sheets C Kendall Not exactly the offensive powerhouse that was being envisioned in the offseason...
  21. The Rangers gave up Texeria to get him, the Brewers don't have that type of ammo lying around. I don't understand why Texas isn't trading Laird though. His 2006 looks like a fluke and it makes no difference to Texas this season if they have Laird or a scrub playing.
  22. I think Captain Lou looked to be on track for the majors next season, either back up or starting, until his injury basically wiped out this year. Salome is likely two years away from being in the conversation unless he breaks out.
  23. McClung as long relief is just asking for trouble. Yes, when your long reliever pitches you are likely in trouble but you want a guy who can give you innings. McClung could easily walk half the batter he faces and last only two innings throwing 80 pitches
  24. McClung isn't going to make the team unless the Brewers carry 13 pitchers, which is foolish. He'll be a Royal before too long.
