  1. Parra should be nowhere near the pen with his arm problems. And there never really was room for a second lefty anyway. Assuming a 12 man staff: Riske Torres Mota Turnbow Gange Shouse Long relief So unless Capuano heals and heads to the pen in long relief, no real room for a lefty reliever.
  2. If Peavy was a Brewer pitcher people would be calling for Narveson to replace him. I mean a 9.00 ERA!
  3. Not sure why you would think Escobar is a better option than Counsell. Escobar hit .325/.345/.377 at A ball. Counsell is hardly a world beater, but he'd out hit Escobar this season. This might mean Nunez makes the team however, which is a bad thing.
  4. Patterson is now 30 and likely needs to rehab for an entire season in hopes of getting back something. Keep in mind the guy only had one good year, so no he isn't anywhere near as good as anyone in the Brewers top 8 or 9.
  5. Pin it and change the title to "Making Ned Yost look good: Dusty Baker"
  6. Tim Wakefield had 17 wins last year. And a 4.76 ERA.
  7. Gross's ISP while with the Brewers has been .202 each of the last two seasons. Jacobs was .211 and .192 the last two seasons. Hard to see Jacobs as having significantly more power. And Gross has much better on base skills. I know you don't want to see thing like stats, otherwise known as facts, to cloud things but Jacobs just isn't good enough to waste Bush on.
  8. 4 season of Weeks is better then 2 of Roberts. And I'm not sure why you think they only have 3 seasons. The only position players not here for the next 4 seasons are Cameron, Kendall, and Hardy. The pitching will be changed, but Parra, Gallardo, and Villaneuava will be here.
  9. The thing that worries me about Cain is that his success so far is based upon him limiting homeruns. His Ks are ok, His BBs are a little high, but his HR/9 is driving everything (that and a BABIP below .300). Now this isn't entirely due to playing in SF but that has to help keep his home runs down.
  10. It makes little sense when Gross is better and to have a LH back up Fielder.
  11. Amazon is offering Power Pros, arguably the best baseball game, for the Wii for 19.99 for today 3-20-2008 Link
  12. The fact that Gross is older means that he is in his prime and therefore more likely to have a a career year. Gwynn could go to Nashville to work on obtaining Craig Counsell levels of power.
  13. Gross can hit, Gwynn can't. If Gwynn can't use his big tool of defense because he can't stay on the field against left handers, what good is he? And his type of hitting should not have huge platoon changes. The other thing is Gwynn is not young. He's 25, meaning he really isn't a prospect anymore. As to projections, then what? Kapler for his career has a 748 OPS but he hasn't been over 700 since 2003 when he got to spend some time in Colorado.
  14. Supan has pitched over 200 innings twice in the last 5 seasons. Not sure why people always ignore that he never went over 200 innings with the Cardinals. As to his ERA, projections for next year have him from 4.59 to 4.94 with FIP of 4.57 to 4.75.
  15. Davis' FIP was 4.68, Vargas' was 5.08. Not sure how Davis would have been just as bad. But that doesn't matter. Davis had value and was traded for junk. Eveland had value and was traded for even more junk. Just because they wouldn't be in Milwaukee doesn't make the trade a good thing.
  16. Thing is, without Dillon the backup 1B becomes Counsell or Munson. And thats just sad. The point about Gwynn is that a no power OFer who can't hit LH pitching is just bad. Carrying another bat to cover for him makes no sense. There should be no circumstance where a high average player with no power needs protection from same handed pitching. If there is that means there are too many holes in Gwynn's swing to be useful.
  17. Bell is making less than $4m, not sure how you include him in large contract
  18. I wouldn't trade Hart for Cain straight up.
  19. I think people just forget how young Eveland was when he was pitching in Milwaukee. He is still just 24. Now his injury last season is a bad thing, but the guy was dominating AAA at 22.
  20. Can I be the first to say that if Gwynn needs a platoon partner he has no business being anywhere close to Milwaukee?
  21. Before that he had a stellar DBacks defense behind him. A flyball pitcher who gives up a bunch of home runs is less affected by defense. Vargas doesn't K a ton, doesn't control BBs and gives up a ton of home runs while not working many innings. And he is about to be on the wrong side of 30.
  22. Its just Rays, no more Devil. Brewerfan does not need anymore cease and desist letters... As to the blog, its just throwing out 4th OFers
  23. Except there is no evidence that Vargas has such a buckling down skill. He had a good strand rate last season, the season before he had a bad one: http://www.fangraphs.com/graphs/1695_P_season_full_8_20071001.png
  24. Maybe if he was less "clutch" and pitched better all the time he would be at least an average pitcher. http://www.fangraphs.com/graphs/1695_P_season_full_0_20071001.png
