  1. A few things: 1) Trades take a lot of effort to pull off. The more moving parts the more things can break down. So its hard to upgrade and sell off at the same time. 2) A team needs 7 to 8 starting pitchers. The Brewers have 6 or 7 ready to go. If the Brewers 5 starters average 28 starts each (what they averaged last year) that is 140 starts leaving another 22 starts, almost an entire starter's workload to be covered. And given how injuries are likely to occur you can't have just one guy make those starts. 3) It is unlikely that anyone on the 25 man roster would be traded. The starters are hard to be repalced and the bench is not good enough for anybody to want them. You could maybe make a case for Maldonaldo being traded if the return is big enough. Maybe the Rays want his framing skills! Let's start the Maldonaldo for Price rumors right now!
  2. He could be a throw in on part of another trade. More than that is unlikely.
  3. The issue is there have been rumors that Houston would only call him and similar players up if they sign a contract like this. I don't know if that is true, but that puts an entirely different spin on this.
  4. Fans do a better job of voting in players than the managers do in picking them.
  5. Garza was not signing a 1 year deal. You want to make room for Nelson? Don't pick up Gallardo's expensive option. Or trade Estrada. If though Gallardo has a pretty good year and Estrada stays healthy, it might be best to pick up Gallardo's option and then trade him to make room for Nelson. I think you could then find a taker at one year 13 million and no draft pick compensation attached so long as he has a say sub-4.00 ERA season this year. My main point is that there are [plenty of ways the Brewers could open up slots. I think you'll have trouble trading Gallardo at $13.5 million if his K rate doesn't improve.

  7. Gallardo--coming off an injury filled year that was mediocre at best (the secret is that he's been worse this year) Lohse--Just turned 35 Peralta--Coming off a poor season Estrada--Constant health concerns Thornburg--7 starts with an xFIP of 4.43 in 2013 at MLB , a fairly poor showing in AAA and questions about whether he has the body to start in MLB (seems to have started to tire right now) Nelson--Terribly wild in his first time in AAA in 2013 Hellweg--Had no control. Fiers--Huge questions about him being able to have his stuff work at the major league level over time.
  8. Because the Brewers have so much infield depth that giving more PAs to the likes of Falu, Bianchi and Herrera makes sense.
  9. It means one team didn't know Lawrie was available. If that team didn't have available pitching, what did it matter? The Brewers needed a pitcher and one they didn't give up any of their own pitching for (Ordozzi was set to be a starter at this point, more proof at how the Brewers tend to rush prospects).
  10. Since Wang can be stashed anywhere in September that will buy a easy 30 days of service right? Given its already May 20th, does that really mean Wang can be DL'd in about 2 weeks and brought back in September and get his full needed time in?
  11. Shortly after was after 2011. After Lawrie's one and only huge year. The only proof the Brewers didn't shop Lawrie was one anonymous quote.
  12. DBacks hire Tony LaRussa. If you wanted to go from evil to cartoonishly super evil, that is one way to do it. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10946204/tony-la-russa-hired-arizona-diamondbacks-chief-baseball-officer?ex_cid=espnapi_public
  13. AFAIK veteran players still can demand a trade or become a FA if they are traded in the middle of a long term contract (seldom happens because of when players are traded). This means trading Braun would be really difficult because the receiving team may lose him right away.
  14. The Brewers wRC+ is 93. So no they are not awful. They are slightly below average and 7th in the NL.
  15. The umps are acting like its 10 degrees out there and trying to get the game over with. I swear I've seen more checks swings called strikes today than the entire season so far.
  16. Gennett versus LHers is just ugly. And no Brian, Gennett did not hit LHers in the minors.
  17. Missed it, what happend? Gennett thrown out at 3b?
  18. That is because Cain had played in the majors. Trade reports often only mention major league players even if the minor league players are more important. Case Closed.
  19. Why would the Rangers hurt their major league team to pick up pitching? Moreland has over 100 PAs already, he's important to them.
  20. It would be really, REALLY nice if we can take advantage of the next few days of Rickie swinging a good bat and then nurse that batting average over the next month with good match-ups to keep it above .300. If we can mask him as a good hitter over the next month+, is there a chance we can get rid of a portion of that contract to a contender and get a mild prospect in return? Or instead of getting a guy who likely will amount to nothing, the Brewers keep him because Gennett can't hit lefties and Bianchi can't hit at all.
  21. Bunting to set up an RBI opportunity for Bianchi... Yes the bench is short but its the 7th inning
  22. The CFer must lead off! The 2B hits second! Glad we outsourced the line up to Ned Yost tonight.
