  1. Similar to Headley, there is Chavez in Arizona. Chavez has also played a bit of 1B meaning he could replace Overbay and both provide better offense and more versatility.
  2. Some turds smell better than others. But their both still turds. Well, the turd in Toronto is 11 years younger than our turd and is hitting .311 with 5 HR's in just 17 games and OPS'ing 1.062. That would look pretty good in a lineup that is struggling to score runs. Our turd is 37 years old, is strictly limited to 1st, has no future, and is OPS'ing .647. I'm surprised that most are downplaying this so much. This could end up being a really, really bad move, especially to keep a guy that we had absolutely no reason to keep. Because Francisco 's hitting is not sustainable. His BABIP is .378. That will regress down to his normal .315 or so. So his .279 AVG becomes a .215 AVG. And his OBP follows suit to a .300. And his ISO is .279 which likely will fall back to a .200 or so and we see the .220/.300/.420 hitter we could expect. Add in Francisco has been terrible in the field.
  3. How do you bring Thornburg to face the bottom of the DBacks order and Kintzler the heart of it?
  4. Marco Estrada has as many walks as Davis, let that one sink in. The baffling thing is last year he walked 11 times in 136 at bats, yet this year he's only drawn one walk in 109 at bats. In the minors he drew walks at an above average rate. So why the hell is he showing worse than Yuni like impatience so far this year? And why are there zero signs of this getting better at all? I gotta assume that the hitting coach Narron brings this up and Davis also sees this when watching video of his at bats, so i'm really at a loss to grasp why it still keeps happening in nearly every at bat. All Brewer outfielders are swinging at junk. Given that Davis did not due so before this year, my guess is the directive is to "attack" pitches. http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/brewers-outfielders-are-chasing-pavements/
  5. Gennett in the majors has an OPS of .324 vs LHers. Not not OBP, OPS. He needs a platoon mate. Cutting Weeks removes any type of infield back up the Brewers have and gives more PAs to Bianchi who has had way too many as it is.
  6. Velez has a BABIP of .444. If you are going to make 40 man room it should be for Green who is killing RHers.
  7. Cameron article really is silly. The Brewer's WPA is so high because they played a ton of close games with high leverage and when the bullpen gave up runs they aren't high leverage. Of course that won't continue.
  8. Should Davis be walking? Yes, the fact that he isn't when he walked a good deal in the minors likely points to a coaching issue. All that said, Davis's wOBA is 93 in 96 PAs. Not what you want out of a left fielder but hardly the end of the world.
  9. I'm pretty sure you don't need definitive proof of a concussion. Basically if you have a head injury you want to give it a few days to make sure they aren't concussed anyway. That is the whole point of the shorter time frame is to give teams that time without having it take a whole 2 weeks to rest.
  10. Could you explain? The 7 day DL for concussion issues. He was hit on the head after all. Now Reynolds is at 3B which is never a good thing.
  11. I really don't get why Segura wasn't put on the 7-day to avoid things like this
  12. It's almost like a pitcher took a no hitter into the 6th and a story was developing
  13. There could be a decent amount of 1B available: Corey Hart: The Mariners are falling apart quickly and likely should sell in July if not earlier. Hart's number so far this year are spookilly close to his 2012 numbers: 2012: .270/.334/.507 2014: .270/.333/.508 Hart's contract has $4.65m in bonuses for PAs that teh Mariners probably would like to avoid paying. Adam Dunn: The only visiting player cool enough to visit Bob Uecker during a game has started the season on fire: .250/.395/.483 He's in his final year. The White Sox might hang around on contention for a while however and Dunn might revert to the Dunn of the past few years. Ryan Howard: OK, only really available for the Yankees and maybe the Angels, he too has started the season like it was 2010: .273/.360/.519 He's owed $60 million for the next two seasons. The Phillies would ahve to pick up a ton to get anyone to take him and RAJ might refuse to do that, but this might be teh Phillies only chance. Howard is really a DH at this point. Billy Butler: Unlike players having a great season, Butler has been brutal. .205/.277/.233 He has an $12.5m option for next year but the Royals might just be ready to move on Micheal Cuddyear The Rockies might hang around .500 so they might not sell but Cuddyear is in the last year of his deal and they should look to get Dickerson playing time. Cuddyear is 35 so hard to say if the Rockies would offer him a QO whihc affects how much they would be looking for in return. .317/.373/.533 Justin Morneau Again depends upon what the Rockies are thinking about now and the future. .346/.369/.615
  14. I hope Saint McCann does the right thing and refuses to catch that cheating Pineda from here on out.
  15. The Cardinals get to the play the Pirates next. They could easily sweep and nearly kill off the Pirates post season chances.
  16. I have an accountant friend who used the "if they only play .500 ball" logic back in what was is 2006 or '07 when they started out really hot. I kept telling him that teams have hot and cold streaks. I figured they were around a .500 team, and a hot start doesn't change that... it really only makes it more likely that they'll trade for a player mid-season rather than trading away players. Because he started thinking playoffs early in the season, he got really mad when the team played under .500 ball the rest of the way and missed the playoffs. I feel the same about this year's team. I felt before the season that if everyone stays healthy and some things fall their way, they could fight for a Wild Card spot. I still feel the same way. They will have some losing streaks that will even out this hot start, and at the end of the year if they continue to stay healthy and the very young and very old players don't wear down as the season progresses, they will probably be in the Wild Card race. The one outlier is whether this hot start means they will trade away some of their few decent prospects for a rental player. I guess I'm just saying to enjoy the team and the success they're having, but don't get too high on the good times, as it can lead to frustration (borderline depression) when they have their inevitable cold streaks. Your friend was right. You are falling prey to the gambler's fallacy. Its the idea that after an event a random occurance has to lean the other direction to make up for it. For example, if you have a fair coin (that you know is fair) and you are going to flip it 10 times. You expect to get 5 heads and 5 tails. You then flip 5 heads in a row. The gambler's fallacy says the next flip is likely to be tails to even things out so you get 5 tails. But it isn't more likely to be tails, the probability hasn't changed: 1/2 heads, 1/2 tails. So that said, if you expected the Brewers to be a .500 team coming into the year, after the start there is no reason to expect the Brewers to be a below .500 over the remaining games. You may say that the start doesn't change your opinion of the Brewers, but that means you should expect them to win 50% of theri remaining games, not less.
  17. No Green was 1 for 2 with 2 walks
  18. Pitchers have been using PEDs for at least 40 years to recover between starts and relief appearances.
  19. If RRR wanted Scooter to bunt he would not have swung away with 1 strike If Scooter bunted on his own with two strikes he should be benched
  20. Runnin' Ron giving the other team two outs in one inning!
  21. The Pirates might be dead by the end of April. Currently they are in 4th place which is bad. The next 7 games might determine if they can do some thing 4 against the Reds and three against the Cardinals. (Then 5 against the AL East...). If they go 2-5 over the next 7 they are at 10-16 and likely buried in 4th. Grilli may have reached his reliever expiration date. They need Marte to be the 5 tool player everyone says he is and not Bret Lawrie 2.0.
  22. I could see him missing the entire next series. I wish Gindl was hitting so he would be coming up, I think we'll see a bunch of Herrera though.
