  1. Of course in the real world the Brewers just opened up a spot for Khris Davis by trading a grizzled vet and got a young player back they want to have put in the rotation.
  2. The idea behind platooning is that left handed hitters have difficulty in facing left handed pitchers such that even a below average right handed hitter would be an improvement. Since Gennett is likely to be a 700 OPS vs RHers and a 550 OPS versus LHers, Weeks 735 OPS would make him the offensive side of the platoon.
  3. Reynolds for Weeks? OK. Though Weeks would likely go onto to have an All Star season for the Yankees. EDIT: Ahh, thought Yankees picked up his option and looking to move him. As a FA? No.
  4. Given that it is a minor league Rule 5, I'm expecting a uniform made up, locker space assigned and some light tossing. Maybe some batting practice. Garth Brooks will have done more in a training camp.
  5. It isn't the 12K, it's the 40 man spot even if it is just for a few weeks.
  6. The fact that Tom Haudricourt did not list Moldanado or Fiers in his list doesn't mean much. And hoping for a.725 to .740 OPS is overestimating Gennett. If he hits .270 he'll likely have an OBP of .300 or so.
  7. Butler has an option for 2015 at $12.5 m. Not sure how a QO would work in such a case. And picking up his option and trading him would be better than then QO pick anyway.
  8. Neither Morris or Rogers are prospects at this point. Morris has an alarming K rate and has been old for his level. Rogers has a decent K rate but has been really old for his level. Morris is entering his age 25 season and Rogers his age 26. Counting on either of them to produce is short sighted. And the idea the Brewers treated Green and Gamel poorly is funny. Gamel was given the 1B job twice.
  9. Given how poorly Gennett has hit vs lefties through his minor league career, it would be pretty hard for Weeks to do worse. Did you not see Weeks play last year? Oh yes, it could be worse, it could be a lot worse, and the thought of watching another season like Rickie had last year, even in a platoon situatuion, sickens me... Weeks awful no go, very bad season in MLB: wRC+ 86. Gennett's season in AAA: wRC+ 84 You are likely going to be very sick.
  10. Or its that Morse had one decent season in his career, was bad before and terrible since, is about to be 32, coming off injury, and signing for more guaranteed money than Hart did.
  11. That is the thing with the current starting pitcher market. The Yankees need to find at least 2 starters.
  12. I don't see him staying. He will either be returned to Pittsburgh or a trade will be made in Spring Training. I don't see any real way he stays in Milwaukee for the full season.
  13. It basically should be like any other base. Catchers can not block the plate.
  14. Morris's AAA season has pretty much removed Morris from the Brewers future. A 24 year old 1B not hitting in the PCL leads to organizations looking for other options.
  15. Loney and Francisco are the same player: Oliver projections Loney: .277/.330/.397 wRC+99 Francisco: .242/.302/.459 wRC+106 Loney's only good year (last year) was all BABIP driven.
  16. The amount of money athletes generate is insane. And when management has conspired to try to hold down labor costs as much as possible (as a percentage of revenue labor costs have fallen like 20 percentage points) through the draft and international free agent caps the money will eventually flow somewhere.
  17. Justin Morneau. 2/13? 1b solved! And by solved we mean paying $7m for 1 expected win above replacement.
  18. The ultimate what if is the 1992 team. What if the lineup consisted of more than Molitor, Hamilton and bunch of guys who couldn't get on base?
  19. Yankees are going to sign Infante
  20. Its more like trading Peralta or Nelson for a below average starting RFer than Fiers. Same age but Smith has had more success at AAA.
  21. Why should it be in blue? Gindl out hit Aoki last year in Milwaukee.
  22. Oops...good call! I read the size for a different guy on Baseball Reference (listed at 6'4" and 220 who wasn't Jaha). My mistake! And I would take that 195 with a grain of salt. He wasn't Matt Stairs but: http://img.comc.com/zoom/787eb113-efba-42db-ac08-a3d1dc2ab214.jpg
  23. Because he was a very good starter last year in Omaha. 10 starts 3.26 ERA 58 innings 65Ks Oliver projects him to be slightly better than Peralta as a starter.
  24. Braun is too low and so is Lucroy (assuming FOs pay attention to pitch framing)
  25. Can title now be changed to the Scooter Gennett thread with Aoki gone? Which stats are you looking at? All advanced stats that I've seen had Segura as a comfortably above average glove as SS last year, somewhere in the 5 to 8 runs range. Though certain Braves shortstops might soon make averages meaningless and we'll have to look at medians....
