  1. Just to note a technicality, this member wasn't actually banned. Banned profiles can't access the board, even to read. In this case, access privileges had been moved to read-only, meaning that one can still see the board and take advantage of its features while logged in.
  2. Because we were setting Safari to pretend to be Firefox, I was assuming that we were doing the same for Chrome. I should have noticed the "MISE 6.0" in there. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif What if you tried adding this string (for Firefox 3.0.6) instead? There are a boatload of possibilities here: UserAgentString.com - List of Firefox User Agent Strings. There could be one that's a better fit--this one's for Windows XP and British English--but I'd bet you'd really be splitting hairs by choosing one over the other.
  3. I suppose you could set up two Google Chrome shortcuts--one with the user agent and one without--then exit and restart as needed. That could be annoying, though. Hopefully, Yuku addresses this sooner than later so we don't need to mess around.
  4. Thanks, Godspeed. Since I don't have Windows, knowing that is more helpful than one might think. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I'm not sure if anyone has thoroughly tested all the toys the editor has to offer. For anyone who takes the time to play with this, it'd be appreciated if you could let us know what you might have to observe.
  5. As Safari and Google Chrome users know, to post on Yuku, it's been necessary to choose to use the BBCode editor in your account preferences or be served up Yuku's plain text editor. It turns out that the WYSIWYG editor should actually work in those browsers. The problem is that Yuku is blocking it. Because the WYSIWYG editor didn't work in Safari 2, it appears a nuclear bomb was dropped that blocked it from appearing in any version of Safari. Since Chrome is based in Safari, it's blocked in that browser, too. To get around this, you need to change your user agent string. In other words, you'll need to "tell" Safari or Chrome to "tell" Yuku that you're using Firefox. In Safari 3 (Mac), open your preferences, hit the Advanced icon, and check the "Show Develop menu in menu bar" option. In the Develop menu, pick one of the Firefox 2.0 (or above) choices in the User Agent submenu. I believe Safari 3 for Windows instructions would be similar; I can't check this out firsthand. For Google Chrome, add this to the target field of your Google Chrome shortcut's properties: You might want to work with a copy of your shortcut. Leave a space before the "-". Note that web sites might rely on the user agent string to pick which code to send to you. If a site is suddenly behaving weirdly, "lying" about the browser you're using could be the cause. Also, if you need to change your default post editor, hit the Account link in the Yuku navigation bar, hit the Preferences link in the Settings box, choose the editor you'd like to use, and hit Submit.
  6. Brewers.com fees would be part of face value. It's certainly fair to recoup those.
  7. Thanks for the pointers. Yeah, I was looking for something very non-cumbersome. Still, kramnoj's baseball reference link looks like a place where I'll be having a lot of fun at some point. logan3825's link would work if a sort for each Major League team were included somehow. Of course, the best thing ESPN could do is put the same sort that's on their standings page onto most of its stats pages. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  8. Rather than being redundant, I'll mention some that haven't been acknowledged yet: crewcrazy, brewjihad, Brawndo the Thirst Mutilator, tristarscoop. I'm sure that I'll probably be back with more.
  9. Just a note that the previous MLB Network thread has been locked and superseded by this one. For reference, here it is: MLB Network (merged: Costas to the MLB Network); see reply #188ish
  10. I thought I'd better interject that it's spelled p-o-g-o-k-a-t. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. brucrustu's numbers match up. There are ten hidden posts in this thread.
  12. As a mod, Jamie will see the same reply numbers that I do. However, when a mod tries to tell a member where to look for something, we're frequently out of luck... thus all the notes referring to stuff like "reply #50ish."
  13. Must not count posts made by posters on "ignore"? Ignore should count; those posts would be collapsed, but not totally hidden. There must be six hidden posts in this thread. Reply numbering used to (and should) acknowledge hidden posts. Reply numbers are useless if mods and members are seeing different numbers.
  14. But I bet it is what you guys already posted. That's probably why we haven't had a post to a lineup thread since last September 18th. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. Added to the designated threads list. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. Done deal! This thread is headed for infamy! This is one of my proudest moments! Jamie, for me, your post (reply #1981) is appearing at the top of page 67. Would you like me to PM you when I'm nearing page 100?
  17. Channel 4's Mike Jacobs said parDEEville.
  18. The short story is that Cecil lost his millions through bad business investments and gambling debts while keeping it secret from his family, the family lost their home, Cecil took money from Prince's bank account without asking, bill collectors tried to collect from Prince for Cecil's debts, etc. JS Online: Life's no dream for Fielder USATODAY.com - Fielder vows to repay debt USATODAY.com - Poor tale of Cecil Fielder JS Online: Fielder interview wasn't Schroeder's best
  19. zurch1818's new link quotes the right people: Mariners GM Zduriencik and Braves GM Frank Wren.
  20. Thread TitlesWe'd like to use the international date format at the beginning of both Brewer and non-Brewer in-game thread titles. Doing this will aid in finding a thread at a later time. If you're starting a Brewers IGT thread, use this format... Anything additional can go after the game time. If you're starting a non-Brewers IGT thread, use this format... Again, anything additional can be appended to the end. Useful LinksLinks related to the day's games are definitely helpful, especially when looking back at the thread down the road. Feel free to add links to replies if they're not included in the lead. Useful links would include, but aren't limited to: Pregame previews and in-game updates Recent background information on the players and teams. Opposing teams' fan sites. Game stories and box scores Non-Brewers In-game ThreadsIn addition to any appropriate links, including the day's schedule would be a nice touch. wOOgiE22 GraphicswOOgiE22 will has made graphical templates available for members to use when starting in-game threads. He'll start threads for the first series of the season. After that, a template for the current (and/or upcoming) series will be made available. The template and instructions for using it are included via replies in this thread. TagsWe'll be using tags to help catalog threads. Unfortunately, we do have a Yuku-imposed limit. These are the tags we plan on initially: Brewer In-Game threads [li]brewers year and month, e.g. 2009april the Brewers' starting pitcher, e.g. gallardo, parra, bush team tag for brewer opponent, e.g. astros, cardinals, whitesox, redsox division of Brewers' opponent, e.g. nlcentral, alwest league of Brewers' opponent, i.e. nationalleague, interleague springtraining, regularseason, or playoffs (as applicable) brewerwin, brewerloss, or brewertie tiebreaker (when applicable) [/li] Non-Brewer In-Game threads [li]nonbrewers year and month, e.g. 2009april springtraining, regularseason, or playoffs (as applicable) team tags (use sparingly), e.g. astros, cubs, whitesox, redsox wbc (when applicable) tiebreaker (when applicable) [/li] All Star Game [li]allstargame year and month, e.g. 2009july [/li] Playoffs [li]brewers or nonbrewers (not both) year and month, e.g. 2009october the Brewers' starting pitcher (when applicable), e.g. gallardo, parra, bush team tags, e.g. astros, cardinals, whitesox, redsox brewerwin or brewerloss (when applicable) playoffs the series: nlds, alds, nlcs, alcs, or worldseries [/li] In addition to the moderators, members who start threads can tag. Mods can pitch in with tagging when members aren't comfortable with the feature. Hints To sort threads by game date, click on the Topic Title heading to sort from least recent to most recent. Click on it again to sort from most recent to least recent. Each subsequent click will toggle the sort order. Dropping a game's date into the forum search (using the format prescribed above) will bring up the Brewers and non-Brewers in-game threads for that date. When they're applicable, use tags to help find what you're looking for.
  21. I saw this done on TV once. People track balls in play with computer software.
  22. I understand the benefits of not going to arby, but I wonder if it gets to a point that it allows the players' agents to take advantage of you a little bit. You could almost hedge by asking for a little more than you normally would, knowing Melvin will meet you half way. It's a pretty objective science. Agents and GMs both know what a player is worth, and they know which figures they can get away with submitting. If a player asks for too much or a GM offers too little, their side would be hurt in a hearing. They're going to be careful with their figures. The wild card is that an arbitrator awards a non-guaranteed contract. I think you often see settlements just below the midpoint because the player will end up being guaranteed. In this case, I don't think whether or not the contract was going to be guaranteed was much of a factor. I think everyone knows that Corey is going to stick with the team through spring training.
  23. Crewin06, please avoid long quotes of messages previously posted in the same thread.
  24. I don't think anyone is tied to the idea of a single lefty specialist. However, as mu35577 says, the ability to carry two can be limited by how the rest of the staff shakes out. Someone's going to have to refresh my memory, but I'm not sure that "specialist" is a term that would necessarily be applied to Stetter. It seems that I remember him being suited to handling hitters from both sides of the plate. I'm a big fan of pitchers doing multiple innings, so I'd hope that Macha can keep both McClung and Villanueva relatively stretched out. That shouldn't preclude one-inning appearances when the game situation calls for it, though.
