  1. I don't think they could keep Sheets in the dark about the extent of the injury and if he knew it was worse than they let on he would have accepted arby. There's no way that the Brewers could conceal the extent of the injury from Ben. You're right FTJ, he would have been owed 30 days pay or roughly 1/6 of his total contract... Players with non-guaranteed contracts are paid 1/6 of their salary if they're released in the first half of Spring Training and 1/4 if they're released in the second half of Spring Training. They're paid their full salary if released on or after Opening Day. Note that if a player accepts arby and the two sides settle, the rules don't preclude a guaranteed or multi-year contract. However, if the contract is decided by an arbitration panel, it's a non-guaranteed one-year deal.
  2. This thread has been added to the Designated Threads List.
  3. I'm going to add that one to the designated threads list. We had a designated Spring Training Travel thread last year, and it worked out well.
  4. The good news is that when Brian has the chance to work on the main portion of the site, there'll be a lot he can do on that end for mobile compatibility. The bad news is that for the boards, we're at Yuku's mercy. I know that mobile compatibility is on the table at Yuku, and I know it's a feature frequently requested by admins and members of other boards. However, I haven't heard anything in months. And unfortunately, the two staff members who seemed to take interest and talk publicly about the issue have left Yuku. Out of curiosity, are those of you using mobile devices seeing the featured topics? I think those are supposed to be hidden from certain gadgets. That wouldn't do much for bandwidth, but it would help a little with scrolling through vertical real estate. [Featured topics are the ones that appear above the page numbers at the top. They would currently include the "2009 Brewerfan.net Winter Meetings" topic here in Issues and the "Brewers Acquire LHP Chase Wright" and "Powell leaves for the Braves" topics in Major Leagues. All three would be on the main board page.] I was playing with an iPhone last fall and saw exactly the opposite problem with menus. Instead of hanging open, they were closed, and many wouldn't open. If I remember correctly, the "LambeauLeap Forum Jump" and "Brewerfan Forum Jump" way at the top worked. Other menus didn't (e.g. the Forum Jumps next to the top and bottom page numbers.) "Posts in last 24 hours" (way down at the bottom) is relatively new; it wasn't there for me to try at that point. As far as speed, I think the bigger problem is that Yuku is slow to begin with. It's bad on broadband connections. Addressing speed issues in general would help everybody. Specifically regarding mobile, I can assure you that if Yuku gave us the capability to make special adjustments (e.g. reduced graphics or eliminating certain graphics), we'd jump at the chance.
  5. I helped a member "repair" a customized version of the Brass Skull profile skin today. If you run into this situation with Brass Skull and you're CSS-savvy, here's the affected code... Code to delete: [+] Replacement code: [+] If you're not CSS-savvy, let me know, and I can PM you code and directions for getting it applied to your skin. If you've customized Pink Header or Purple Vertical Stripes, I have replacement code available for those, too. Note again that if you're using one of the three affected skins and it isn't customized, you can simply go to the Skins Library, find the skin, hit the "copy to my skins" button, and apply the newly copied skin.
  6. I haven't seen enough of this channel to say that this is 100% applicable. But one of my initial impressions was that the personalities were very good about letting the topic of discussion carry them--and not making themselves more important than the subject at hand. This observation even applied to Harold Reynolds. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif On-screen personalities calling each other "nuts" is one of the reasons that my ESPN viewing has dwindled over the years. Defend your argument with facts, people.
  7. What channel were you watching? Was this one of the new HD Seinfelds or was it in SDTV format?
  8. There are a couple of other twists that we don't see often. After a certain amount of Major League service, a player will have to clear waivers to be able to be optioned. I think that's three years from his first major league appearance. After a longer period (five years maybe?), a player has to agree to be optioned.
  9. An option is only used if a 40-man roster player is sent to the minors and spends at least 20 (or 21) days there during the season. This has happened with Gwynn in three seasons; in Hall's case, it's only happened twice. If a player is sent to the minors and spends less than 20 (or 21) days there over the course of the season, an option isn't used. He accumulates Major League service time instead. As an example, Dave Bush was sent down last year, but didn't stay. An option wasn't used. Note: The 20 (21) stuff is because I don't know exactly how the contract is worded. It uses the number 20, but it might say something like "more than 20."
  10. Weeks avoids arbitration, signs for $2.45 mil; Rogers signed for 2009
  11. Do you mean intra-squad, Series Finale? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. I'm not a huge Springsteen fan so I found all the fanfare to be a bit contrived... I could have done without the silly hyperactive emcee who spent about a minute introducing him.
  13. Will it go to sleep if you do it via the controls before closing the lid?
  14. I just did a search on my receiver, and it's not showing up. That probably means that not scheduled in the next two weeks. Take technology for what it's worth, though. It's certainly possible that the program guide is lacking the correct information.
  15. Decorative urinal screens: preprinted or design your own
  16. Has Tom started posting to the comments section in his blog again? I thought he decided to stop doing that last summer.
  17. I do know that Tom remembers that Rickie was signed to a Major League contract. But I also remember him reporting that Rickie was the first Brewer to sign a Major League contract upon being drafted. Tom was wrong when he reported that. Rob Ellis was the first Brewer draftee to sign a Major League contract. Rob also went straight to the Majors.
  18. You're right. Rickie didn't log enough service time in 2003 and 2005 to reach arby status last winter. Tom's being misled by the fact that Rickie made $1.07 million in 2008. That's an unusually high figure for a pre-arby player. But Rickie wasn't in seven digits due to arby. He was in seven digits because his initial contract, signed before he ever set foot on a professional field, called for him to be paid $1.32 million in 2007. (He actually took a cut last season.)
  19. Logan, what temperature do you cook at?
  20. Don't the Brewers pretty much decide the salaries of players with less than 3 years of experience? How does the process work? The players have no clout. The best they can do is "lobby" for a bit more. Teams don't have to pay these guys anything at all above minimum. But in general, teams implement "formulas" that minimally reward players for past service. Milwaukee has been noted as one of the more generous teams when it comes to pre-arby players.
  21. If the screen is dirty, soaking it in vinegar, CLR, or Lime Away will clean it right up. An option would be to spend a couple of bucks on a new aerator for the end of the spout. I combine the tacks: I have a few aerators on hand. I'll soak them clean and have one handy the for next time I have a clogging issue.
  22. Did we previously know that Jim frequented this message board? I believe he's specifically mentioned Jim G.'s Link Reports. Bob Wolfley of JS Online is reporting that WTMJ management is considering hiring a broadcaster who might have an expanded role with the station. I personally am not thrilled about this idea.... I remember when Drew Olson started his radio show and started covering other sports besides the Brewers. Suddenly he didn't seem like the baseball expert anymore and it wasn't the same.... Three years ago or so, I remember Jim Powell subbing for Bill Michaels, and his main topic was the Bucks. Of course, like he always did with baseball, he did his homework and was interesting to listen to. Like JohnBriggs12, I don't really value Major League experience in filling this role... unless Ryan Radke's spring webcasts count as Major League experience. The Brewers did well hiring Jim as an up and comer, and we've seen how good Brian Anderson can be. I just don't see placing a high priority on having someone with a national reputation, especially when we already have one guy who fits that description.
  23. These are the three skins that were affected. If one of these was used as a template for a modified skin, that profile might also be affected. I'm betting against there being much pink around here. brass skull http://static.yuku.com/userskins/bypass/img/thumbs/brassskull_thumb.jpg pink header http://static.yuku.com/userskins/bypass/img/thumbs/optionspink-lozenge.gif Options - purple vertical stripes http://static.yuku.com/userskins/bypass/img/thumbs/optionspurple-vertical.gif
  24. It appears that images in three Yuku profile skins were stored on a server where they really shouldn't have been instead of being stored here on Yuku. That mistake was "corrected" today. Unfortunately, the repercussion of doing that is that some profiles with customized skins may be messed up. If you're using one of these skins and it hasn't been modified with your own HTML and CSS, you can simply go into the skin library, grab that skin again, and apply it. If you've used one of these skins as a template and made HTML and/or CSS modifications to it, post here if you need help putting your profile back together.
  25. Note that it's fine to ask for help in locating a legit copy of a DVD or whatever, but we can't allow homemade copies to be exchanged here. Brewerfan could get its collective butt in a sling for that.
