  1. I think that technically, the Citgo thing would be termed a "sponsorship."
  2. You know you're horrifically unprepared for weather issues when you spend the first five minutes of a power outage having to use your cell phone's radiant glow to get upstairs to the closet to dig out the flashlight... My cell phone has a "lantern" feature. It's meant to be used as a flashlight; it turns the screen plain white. Invest in some candles that hang on the wall. That works well for me. The only issue is locating matches. Also, Firefox 3 is released. Varoooooom! It's noticeably faster. I hear Firefox 3 isn't getting along with Yuku's nifty feature that scrolls wide stuff in posts. Example: reply #1196.
  3. I haven't been "taking notes" myself, but I've seen reports saying that yes, Billy does celebrate Russ' homers. It shouldn't be any other way, of course.
  4. They went with the much maligned "Branyon" spelling. b19 discussed that issue as it applies to the board. My feeling was that "Branyon" should be a double-strike violation. He felt an immediate ban was in order. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. Rickie's callup, Prince's callup, and a fair number of other call-ups... Don't forget the Yohannis Perez signing. Jim tipped off Baseball America. Didn't some of the Ulice Payne information appear on this site first? It sure did, thanks to a member who's proven trustworthy. The bad vibes surrounding Ulice were brought to light here months before the public eruption. And while it was termed something like a "big announcement after the first of the year" rather than a sale, this member also reported the that the club would be sold well before the fact.
  6. pitchleague is right; had it been played, this would have been the final Hall of Fame game. The Brewers participated in 1976, beating the Mets, 9-3, and in 2001, beating the Marlins, 6-2.
  7. It happens every year. The Brewers have taken their turn a couple of times.
  8. Cool move on Bill's part. I'm wondering if the camera work necessary to spot that might have come from Twins' side.
  9. Let's try to stay apolitical here. As far as dimensions, I guess I don't care a whole lot. I think variations from park to park are part of the coolness of baseball. If one doesn't like short dimensions in a particular park, complaints should be directed toward Major League Baseball. There are rules setting minimum dimensions; exceptions have to be specifically approved.
  10. I the only one who has my deposit slip and check ready to go when I pull in? If I'm not set and ready to go, I grab a corner of the parking lot and get stuff organized. Sometimes I need to request a deposit slip; they disappear from the pad faster than my checks do. The only thing I do before pulling away from the window is count my cash in front of the teller. Any further organizing takes place in another corner of the lot before I pull out.
  11. Gamel's defense is apparently improving, but the reports I see indicate that it still needs quite a bit of work. At this point, I don't see it offsetting any offensive spark he might provide. Also, the Brewers are keeping him in Huntsville rather than promoting him to Nashville so he can continue to work with Don Money. I think this indicates that they've learned from the Braun situation at 3B and don't want a repeat. There's no spot for LaPorta to start right now, and I can't see the Brewers taking away from his development time to have his bat on the bench. I have to agree with TLB: 2009 or later for both of these guys. I agree with the issue presented in the lead post, though. The team is minus a bat, and the bottom of the order has become weaker since Weeks' injury.
  12. There aren't any hacking issues; one of the reasons Yuku was written was to avoid a repeat of what happened a couple of years ago. However, there's been a string of weird occurrences since Yuku moved to its new data center a couple of weeks ago. Fixes for one problem often have side effects that subsequently need to be addressed. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if redirects broke temporarily. Brian's been working on writing new "guts" for the non-Yuku areas of the site. Patching the current stuff takes away from time that would otherwise be available for that effort. If you're here a lot, the board URL isn't that hard if you make it a point to memorize it: brewersfandemonium.yuku.com If you're on a machine you use frequently, chances are that it'll pop up in your URL bar once you've typed the first few letters. Another option is to search Google for brewerfan yuku. This board will top the list.
  13. All stats have trivia value, and this one has 'sweet' value. No other claim was made. Besides, Russ' god status just may exempt him from small sample alerts. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  14. Blame me for the title. I unambigufied it.
  15. Blame me for the title. I unambigufied it.
  16. An iPhone is only compatible with AT&T.
  17. I believe the left field dimensions were constrained by the street and the desire to preserve the old train station.
  18. Since Soriano's expected to be out six weeks, and the article says, " The team was expected to call up outfielder Micah Hoffpauir from Triple-A Iowa to take Soriano's spot on the roster," I think it's safe to tack on the transaction posticon and tag right away. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. I wonder if WEAC is aware of the error. I'd think the "teacher's" would be a bit displeased.
  20. I always thought the Potawatomi (sp?) Casino ads were cheesy. I can see that point of view. But my thinking was that the Pottawatomie ads have a professional quality to them. The Wisconsin Lottery commercials have to be about as amateurish as it gets. Along with the side effects, what bugs me about the drug commercials are the ailments themselves. Those commercials in general give me the heebie jeebies.
  21. One guy gets hit, the other team retaliates, player takes his base, no benches clear and all is done. From an umpiring and rule enforcement standpoint, I agree. But I hate putting a runner on base. Can't the pitcher just throw high and tight and accomplish about the same thing?
  22. The Active 33, which current SLVR text features would you miss if your next phone didn't have them? For instance... Do you use copy/cut/paste? The lock feature? Bulk message cleanup? Do you take advantage of letting the phone auto-complete the word you're trying to key in? Do you simply hit a key multiple times to get the letter you want (Motorola calls this TAP)? Or do prefer to hit a key once and let the phone figure out which word you're typing (Motorola calls this iTAP)? I ask this because whenever I switch phones, there's been something that the old phone did that I miss on the new one. My new phone, for example, doesn't copy/cut/paste, doesn't lock outbox messages, and auto-completes in the phone book but not in text messages. Also, its dictionary has the memory of a mosquito. On the other side of the coin, is there anything your SLVR doesn't do that you'd like to see your new phone do? As an example, I was pleasantly surprised when I found out my new phone could store numbers contained in the content of text messages. That's a way cool step-saver. The only other thing that's important to me is phone book functionality. Mine's passable, but that's it. There's not enough memory. My preference would be to have plenty of memory in both the phone and on the SIM in case only one or the other had to be switched. In other words, I'd love it if both the phone and the SIM had room to store all the numbers I need. Another thing: who's your provider? A benevolent member may be willing to go to its web site and look at your options. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  23. You can tell Wisconsin Lottery ads are done on a low budget. They're awful. In contrast, Pottawatomie Bingo Casino ads are well done. The testimonials on WTMJ drive me nuts. Am I supposed to believe that their announcers are going to come out and tell us on their own how they're pleased with their new bathrooms, windows, computers, and LASIK? These people either got a discount on the products/services, got paid for doing the ad, or both. The same goes for Good Feet advertising. I'm supposed to invest $500 just because Daron Sutton, Bill Michaels, Bill Schroeder, and Jim Gantner have been compensated to say they're pleased? The Gordon Hinkley Church and Chapel Funeral Home commercials deserve special mention. Part of it's because the minister suggested avoiding them when we were choosing a place for my mom's funeral. I don't remember if Hinkley says that they'll be handling his funeral, but somehow I can't believe his family will be using a discount funeral home. Any commercials that are louder than the TV program automatically draw my wrath. The volume offsets anything that might otherwise be well done. There was an Angel Soft toilet paper commercial a few years back that I felt was very effective--with my dog. It started with people whispering in the background while they were making a toilet paper pyramid. Then someone whistled, and the dog in the commercial ran toward the pyramid and knocked it down. At first, when my dog heard that whistle, he'd run to the door and bark. As time went on, he'd run to the door and bark when he heard the whispering that occurred before the whistle.
  24. You can pinch hit twice in the same at bat; the only issue is emptying your bench. A pitcher has to face at least one hitter, though, unless he's injured during that at bat.
