  1. I wasn't the mod that hid your post, but there were instructions in the thread suggesting that the practice of posting entire standings tables be discontinued. The message I've linked to includes directions on how to provide a link that will "stick" if someone chose to follow it in the future. Providing such a link should be an occasional, rather than a daily, thing. As far as threads and posts that disappear inexplicably, the Yuku issues are lingering. I've done edits on posts that take a minute to take hold, for instance. And LambeauLeap members certainly know about the big Favre thread coming and going at will.
  2. 1. Who is our speed guy off the bench? Probably Counsell. The Brewers don't need one to cover the outfielders, so really, the team is already in good shape. 2. Who do you want on the mound if we need to get through 1 last inning to make it into the next round or win it all? That's way up for grabs. It could even be Sheets or Sabathia if circumstances are right. 3. What will our bench look like for the postseason? I'd guess it'll be a lot like it is now. 4. And our bullpen? It's too soon to tell. Hopefully, there's an acquisition or two along with some questions about some of our current guys being ironed out.
  3. Moved and merged into tonight's in-game thread. The post is located in reply #31.
  4. Ben has tripled his career doubles total this year. He had one in 2002, and he's had two this year. It's time to consider hitting him cleanup. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. New treatment might help Wood avoid disabled list
  6. Marcel isn't a "guy" at all. Call it a monkey if you'd like, but it's a system named by Tom M. Tango. If you look at splitter's post in reply #56, you can see why this system helps out as an evaluation tool. The combination of Durham's recent small samples don't coincide. The system could be wrong, too, but it tosses some objectivity into the mix. Different systems provide other objective analysis. The more information that can be obtained, the better.
  7. So do these stat people just like to discount 263 AB's in 2008 where Durham did a hell of a lot better than that? It's exactly the opposite. 263 ABs is a small example, and statheads work to be careful not to be swayed by that. Anyway, the formula does what it does... no more, no less. What one thinks personally would be irrelevant when it comes to computing the numbers. Also note that rluzinski wasn't quoting the Marcel projections to back up his opinion in reply #44. He was simply trying to provide information we wouldn't have had otherwise and using the stats to provide some context. And while these statheads aren't necessarily becoming GMs, they've certainly gotten the attention of GMs. More than one guru who's made his name on the internet has ended up employed by a GM. If it's not an internet guru being employed, it's another accomplished stathead. Most teams have them. The bottom line is that stats keep people honest. Once one sees the stats, they can certainly be questioned. But on the other hand, the stats can temper enthusiasm or disdain that could occur without them.
  8. As much as we collectively whine about it, the Brewers still have the fourth best road record in the National League and the seventh best road record in the majors.
  9. No, actually the part about your butt being covered is supposed to be in blue. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. I think it's important to note that Crazyk1294 has earned credibility around here and that he's simply reporting what he heard. 1250, of course, has had its own issues, but the "Take that for what its worth" statement has more than covered Crazy's butt in that regard.
  11. I wonder how much the income from being able to show the game on Bay Area television would have offset any attendance decrease that might have occurred by scheduling a late afternoon or evening start time.
  12. Somehow I think you knew the answer to that question, but I answered it anyways. ^^ This crosses the condescension line. Whether a defender is good or bad, errors are always ugly, and game-changing errors are always memorable. To be objective, we have to keep those facts in mind. Overall, Cameron's defense has been very pretty to watch. Offensively, we've been in the small sample stage all season, especially considering that Mike missed the first 25 games. However, his current .335 OBP / .505 SLG would be completely in line with his three-year numbers (.342 OBP / .461 SLG) and his career numbers (.340 OBP / .447 SLG). I think we're getting what was "advertised" when he was acquired.
  13. Here's the pertinent tidbit from the link above.

  15. Here's that post: For reference, here's the link to the old Bush/McClung platoon thread, now locked in favor of this one: Platoon Dave Bush
  16. I'm not proficient with the screenshots... Taking a screen shot http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. Unfortunately, the FOX contract with MLB lasts through 2013, so we're not going to be seeing Saturday exclusivity ending any time soon. And you can't fault the Giants for scheduling games to meet the desires of their fans. There's more than enough scheduling that's done to accommodate TV. A couple years ago, I remember reading that the Giants scheduled more day games than anyone other than the Cubs, so I guess we just got caught in that. Anyway, I'm not pleased, either, but since there's no immediate solution, I guess all I can do is whine unproductively.
  18. While it isn't on the message board, this provides an extreme example of why Brewerfan encourages members to write their posts in relatively short paragraphs. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. Brewerfan has been screening membership applications for the past three years or so. Up until the past few months, the member application process served basically as a way to let board administrators know that there was a new member. More recently, the MBA (Membership by Approval) application has been used as a means to screen for potential posting quality. A lot of applications are denied because they come through with only a two or three word message. You can tell from the link that b19 provides that Brewerfan is requesting more than that. Also, b19 notifies all moderators of approvals and denials. That way, the mods know someone new is around. LambeauLeap has been a lot more "loose" with membership applications. In part, that's because almost everyone who applies is familiar to us anyway. Also, with the board being much smaller, keeping track of new members isn't very difficult. Peavey and I have been processing MBAs over there. Some new members confuse the Yuku signup process with board membership approval. The Yuku signup screens for stuff like spambots. Part of that process is that members must enter a verification code and confirm their e-mail address. The Brewerfan application addresses the human element.
  20. Brewerfan and LambeauLeap have two filters. One comes from Yuku itself. The other is a custom filter maintained by board administrators with moderator input. The word you're referring to is in Yuku's filter. There's no way to whitelist words out if it; it's all or nothing with that one. It would be possible to drop Yuku's filter and go with one that's compiled entirely by BF/LL mods and staff. I actually tried this last fall. There were significant bugs that caused all kinds of trouble. The major bugs are purportedly fixed now. Still, a completely custom filter would have to be thoroughly tested--just to be sure, and there are higher priorities on the "to do" list.
  21. ccbrew, "Yuku" took note of this post. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. I'm not sure where I'm supposed to drive. The right lane seems to go along at 62 MPH or less. The left lane goes along at 75 MPH or more. What about those of us who prefer speeds that are in between?
  23. Thanks for the promo, DougJones43. As he says, it couldn't get simpler: your Brewerfan login is good over at LambeauLeap. We do ask members to apply for posting privileges, though. That keeps out the riffraff. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif We tried pre-approving members, but that Yuku feature is busted. As we know almost everyone who applies, approval is almost always a rubber-stamp kind of thing, and applications are processed ASAP. (This is different from Brewerfan, where applicants are now screened pretty carefully.) There are two ways to apply for membership. One would be to hit the "Reply" link on any post or attempt to start a new topic. The other would be to apply directly to from this page: LambeauLeap Fan Forum Membership Application If you have any questions about LambeauLeap functionality, you're welcome to post them to this thread.
  24. Merged into the 7/13/08 in-game thread, beginning with this reply.
  25. Where do people rank the Marquis Grissom signing? This was a trade rather than a signing. The players given up weren't a big deal, but the Brewers inherited Marquis' entire 5 year/$25 million extension.
