  1. Because of the server issues, Brewerfan has been credited with one additional day of ad-free service. LambeauLeap has been credited with an additional 1,000 ad-free page views.
  2. Here's the page to apply to be able to post on the LambeauLeap board. LambeauLeap Membership Application We tend to approve applicants ASAP over there.
  3. There were problems that manifested themselves to varying degrees on various Yuku servers. There were a handful of issues reported regarding the server hosting Brewerfan, but they were pretty much scattered and random. Here at Brewerfan, there were big problems during the time span hawing mentioned. Replies and edits submitted between about 11:45 PM CDT Wednesday and 1:00 AM CDT Thursday weren't posting, then showed up around 1:00 AM. After that, I personally experienced occasional short delays before replies or edits would show up. The server hosting LambeauLeap was more problematic. An entire thread was lost over there. It's been manually restored by Yuku staff. Some boards reported issues that extended well beyond anything that would have happened at Brewerfan or LambeauLeap. A fix was pushed to all Yuku servers early this afternoon.
  4. I wouldn't draw conclusions from Pythagorean unless the sample were larger or the discrepancy were a lot more extreme.
  5. Things definitely look good now, but as you say, the next seven weeks will tell the story.
  6. Gamel has to be added to the 40 man at the end of the year anyways, to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. So I don't see that as a problem. The potential problem would be cutting someone to make room for him. There'd certainly be options, but they may or may not be desirable.
  7. Zone Alarm was fine, then the MS update that came out on Tuesday broke it. I don't think you can blame Zone Alarm for that. Give them credit for immediately responding with a "fix" that accommodated the update, though.
  8. Zone Alarm Basic Firewall contains both the free and paid versions. When you install it, you're prompted to choose which one you'd like to use. You're also given the option to run the paid version for 15 days. I think a fresh setup is a little bit easier if you choose this option. After 15 days, you'll be asked if you'd like to pay or revert to the free version. When I install ZA, I usually opt for the paid version for 15 days. In this case, I installed over the earlier version and picked up previous settings, so I didn't bother with it.
  9. I just did this for my neighbor. Turn your Zone Alarm firewall setting down to medium, download the appropriate new Zone Alarm, install it, then move the firewall setting back up to high.
  10. He makes the same silly mistakes that they all do. For sure. When you evaluate a manager, you almost have to throw out all those mistakes and work with what's left. Even though I think it's a flawed strategy, I can't blame a manager for assigning certain relief pitchers to certain innings, for instance. Everybody's doing it. What I can do though, is blame a manager for making that bad structure worse than it has to be by picking the wrong guys for these roles. IMO a manager has a smaller impact on a game than most people think. Most people who try to objectively quantify a manager's impact will absolutely agree with you. If you cruise the message boards, you'll see lots of exaggerated posts suggesting that a manager has directly caused pretty large numbers of losses. In reality, we're probably dealing with a swing of ± 3 games. That's still a range of 6 games over the course of a season, though. If one can objectively place a manager at either of the extremes, I believe some credit or blame can be assigned. I'm giving Ned a 2008 C- so far. I want a larger sample. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I was ready to jettison him after the Boston series, but smooth sailing since then has pretty much tempered that feeling.
  11. With tonight's crowd of 37,463, total attendance for this homestand is at 237,588, for an average of 39,598. 162,412, an average of 40,603, is needed for the homestand's attendance to reach 400,000.

  13. Last year, the Brewers would have bumped the Packers off of WTMJ had they still been fighting for a playoff spot the season's final day. I have no clue what would have happened outstate, though. During the playoffs themselves, there are a lot of variables that could factor in. While WTMJ, XM, and MLB.com audio would be the only outlets that can carry Bob and Jim--with other Brewers Radio Network affiliates being able to pick up the national feed, you have to figure that ESPN affiliates, in addition to Brewers Radio Network, would also be in the mix to carry games. That adds options.
  14. My initiation was pretty minor and came after only a few weeks, but it turned into a gift that kept on giving. It started when I had to point out that a former member had circumvented the cuss filter. The response was a rather lengthy PM saying "I didn't cuss." Later in the same PM, I was told that "told me to do it." Every couple months for about a year, this former member would bring up this situation out of nowhere in whatever thread he happened to think of posting about it.
  15. Those authentication codes are hard to read. I think I miss about 3 in 10. MLB.com should offer a "Hard to read? Generate new code." option like Yuku does.
  16. Interesting. I just checked in Safari 3.1.1 / OS X 10.5.3 and the Interact menu drops down just fine. Are you sure the page fully loaded? When I clicked a bit early, it didn't open. Interestingly, however, the dropdown menus at the bottom of the page don't work while the ones at the top are fine.
  17. Members have an ignore feature available. Look in the Interact menu on the left side of each post. Messages posted by members on ignore will automatically be collapsed when a thread is opened. If you get curious about an individual message, you can uncollapse an individual message by clicking on plus symbol. What's a "rec" comment feature?
  18. The first one was fine, but it'd be better not to continually be posting the standings directly into this thread. They're easy enough to look up. As an occasional option, let me suggest this. ESPN's standings offer some nice sort options. Here's an example sorting for wild card order on June 1. Grab the date you desire, then copy and use the URL. To grab an URL that would force today's standings to still show up tomorrow, toggle the popup to a different date, then toggle it back. Good Excel hint, 232323. It may come in handy for those who want to paste elsewhere. Also, while they occasionally flake out, tables usually paste directly into the post editor pretty easily.
  19. I don't have examples, but I recall sold out weekday afternoon games in the past. Also, while it wasn't a sellout, I remember being at a game that cracked 40,000 on a weekday in May.
  20. Mods, it's a free email but it is a pretty lengthy letter that I don't want to take up a full page with quoting. Go ahead and post it. We're worried about copyrighted material without citation and long quoting of other members' messages. This would fall outside of those concerns.
  21. The Brewers should get creative with him in the second half. It seems that he'll only have one more start before the All Star break. Without the Sabathia acquisition, he could have easily been pitching both tomorrow and Sunday. After the break, he could be lined up as the fifth guy out of the gate. Then there are the days off in late August that could afford him some rest. This could still be inadequate, but it'd a reasonable way to approach the innings issue without disrupting things or missing him much.
  22. Interesting stuff in the playoff odds links listed above. I don't have the exact numbers, but I remember that before yesterday's game, the Brewers' odds varied between about 48-52%. Today, they range from 54-59%. This has to account for the addition of Sabathia. I don't think one win and a minor standings shift in early July would cause such a dramatic change.

  24. Much has been made (and rightfully so) that the addition of a pitcher has less impact than the addition of an everyday hitter. It depends which pitcher and which everyday player you're talking about. I believe a position player will typically have about 10% of his team's ABs while a starting pitcher will typically pitch about 15% of his team's innings.
  25. You're welcome. I'm glad it worked. I added a fourth step. I realized that my initial finished quote was longer than needed, so I pared it back. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif
