  1. Did Sabathia really have 130 pitches? 124 in 6 2/3 innings.
  2. is there any way to tell just from looking at someone that they have Asberger's? If it isn't Asperger's, it's still something with obvious symptoms. The point is that something's wrong and that the kid shouldn't have to suffer abuse because of it. Also, the post beginning with "Ok, doctor" crosses the condescension line. Posts need to address the message rather than attack the messenger.
  3. This thread was initially locked, and discussion was directed to yesterday's in-game thread. It's been re-titled and reopened. The focus can be on any relevant scoring decisions.
  4. The scoring change was announced about a half an inning later.
  5. Besides Haudricourt, Brian A., Bill, Trenni, and the WTMJ loudmouth were all pretty much flabbergasted at the way that inning was handled. One batter to get out of the inning? What about what happened with the previous nine or so batters? There were a number of points where Suppan could have been lifted, and he should have been lifted at one of them.
  6. Moderators feel free to lock this if you wish as I have also posted this in the vent thread. I hid the post in the vent thread to channel discussion over here. Also, I rewrote the thread title so it'd be clear that we were discussing the general concept of bunting etiquette rather than just a single game (in-game thread) situation.
  7. the seating capacity is 41,900 I'm not sure if the Brewers even know what Miller Park's official seating capacity is. Even when it first opened, a team official said something to the effect of, "we're not really sure." Since then, the capacity has changed annually, and I'm willing to bet a 12 pack that web sites that list a number aren't likely to have been keeping up with the changes. Because of differing numbers of complimentary tickets given out from game to game, the sellout threshold would vary daily. I'd bet that a game is announced as a sellout when there are no more single seats available. On a side note, the Game Reports accompanying the Brewer articles in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel haven't had the season attendance right since sometime on the last homestand. Hardricourt's 2008-07-14 article listed the correct attendance as of that date, though, and that number would confirm ESPN's number as being right.
  8. Bucky Rules, the Padres' broadcasts are now part of the Extra Innings package. Back to the no hitter, there's a nice way to dance around this. Jim Paschke and Mike Hegan managed to not say anything directly during the Juan Nieves no-hitter. Viewers were able to tell what was going on. One way to look at this is that Trenni told us early in the year that one objective of the broadcast is to get us inside the game and help us feel a player's perspective. Well, a player's perspective would certainly be one that downplays the no-hitter. I know it's coincidence, but after I sent Brewers Live a text message suggesting that Brian be quiet about the no hitter, he didn't say anything else about it. However, he appropriately discussed consecutive hitters not reaching base, CC's pitch count, etc. In this case, an occasional "No St. Louis Cardinal has reached based since so and so walked in the first inning" would have worked. Certainly, there was no need for an outward fuss.
  9. The second syllable should be pronounced "pahn," as in Warren Spahn. There's no "a as in pan" in Spanish. I had intended to include that. Sorry.
  10. Last night, there were a lot of empty seats and the game was announced as a sellout. Did places like StubHub buy them up but not sell them?
  11. A huge reason for the change was that Hardy made it clear that he hated hitting in front of the pitcher.
  12. People who pronounce Italian "eye-talian" Even worse is the way MLB Home Plate promotes the XM "MLB in español" channel. They pronounce the middle syllable as "pan" (as in cooking utensil). This isn't some bozo slipping up during a live promo; these are recordings, for crying out loud. If the objective is to reach Spanish-speaking listeners, don't insult the potential audience that way. I can tell there is something bothering her and she still vehemently denies it. This is usually turned around. The woman decides the man is upset and he denies it. The only twist is that the man probably isn't upset when she thinks this... until she keeps bugging him about it.
  13. Onion discussion in CC thread (Major League Forum) Onion article on Fielder, Sabathia (Off Topic)
  14. The previous two posts that have strayed from the Hardy situation are fine, but from here on out, let's try to make sure that posts in this thread have at least something to do with J.J or players somehow related to his situation. (In other words, Gwynn isn't very relevant. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif) If you'd like to talk about the roster in general a couple years from now, this old thread can be resurrected: Your 2010 Brewers?
  15. "First two seasons" would include cups of coffee. If you want to go with "first two full seasons," there's nothing wrong with going that route.
  16. the striped white lines that separate the highway from the on-ramp Those things are called gores or gore areas. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. My preferred way used to be to use the Advanced Search on the main board page. That's been way undependable in recent weeks, though. You'd find one of the member's posts and PM him via the Interact menu. I'd probably start with the Yuku profile find (http://find.yuku.com/find/profiles/). I've had issues with that, but I just found you in there. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Another option is to look through the members under the Active Members link on the main board page. You can sort them by name and guess page numbers to wade through the alphabet. Click on the member name to get to his profile. One more choice is to try to guess the member's profile URL. It'd be name.u.yuku.com, name.e.yuku.com, or name.brewersfandemonium.yuku.com. (We have a handful of members who are name.some_other_boardname.yuku.com, e.g. .survivorsucks.) Don't bust your butt, though. If you'd like to PM the member's name to me, I can find the profile page via the administrative controls, and I can quickly get you the profile URL. For whatever reason, the administrative member search is still dependable. (Knock on wood.)
  18. According to Brewerfan, Manny was called up on July 16, 2007, and he was placed on the disabled list on August 31, 2007. Assuming both July 16 and August 31 count, that'd be 47 days. If neither counted, he'd be making it under the wire. Recent media reports indicate that at least one of those two days count.
  19. It's probably "breast cancer" pink. The Packers have it, too.
  20. thanks for cleaning up the blue Casey. Didn't know what the hell I did to make it look like that. You may have confused the first button in the post editor (Font Color) with the fourth button (Hilite Color). However, there's also been a hard to track down Yuku bug with certain Windows/browser combinations that on rare occasions will pop in a background color at will. There's no easy way to back out once a text or hilite color is applied. You either have to start over or edit the HTML/CSS in the code. Several mods are familiar with enough HTML/CSS to do that for members when stuff like this happens.
  21. Here's the moderator consensus.
  22. There's been a bit of confusion about posting standings to this thread. Mods have discussed this and have come to this consensus. The issue is that posting messages containing nothing but standings bumps the thread, causing members to click through and see something they're probably looking at anyway. Besides all of our favorite places to check standings, they also tend to be posted in the In-Game Threads. Standings in the IGTs are fine, of course. Therefore, messages in this thread should focus on useful and interesting content. Messages containing only standings will be hidden. If there's a case where a small snippet of the day's standings or a link adds clarity to an original post, that's fine.
  23. I certainly want to see the Brewers go with the cautious approach. But if it turns out that he becomes a viable option, the good news is that the Brewers don't have to do any fancy roster manipulating in August to make him eligible. His DL status automatically covers that.
  24. One of the posts is back now. (I didn't do the unhiding, either.) I agree that the timing was reasonable. The main thing my message was trying to ward off was making the standings posts a daily occurrence. The first two came one day and five messages apart. If there's no discussion in between the standings posts, that forces members to open a thread to only see something most of us are likely checking anyway. Secondarily, I don't know that we necessarily need the part that includes how the Rockies, Padres, etc. stand in this race. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Mods will need to come to a consensus on this so members and mods alike can all be on the same page.
  25. How exactly would you play the game the wrong way? If you play like Alex Sanchez? He's one of the few players I've seen in any sport who didn't seem to have a grasp of the rules. He even threw his glove at a ball once, causing the opposing batter to be awarded three bases.
