  1. There's plenty of evidence that representatives of the Brewers read these forums. Brian once mentioned that brewers.com is fairly noticeable in the site visitors log. I know that they read the brewers.com board, and I'd bet they're reading the Sports Bubbler and ESPN boards, too.
  2. Bringing in Mota didn't bother me half as much as removing Villanueva. Yes, the two went together, but what I'm saying is that had the situation called for bringing in a pitcher, and Mota happened to be the choice, I wouldn't have complained. This situation didn't call for a pitching change at all, though. As others have mentioned, Carlos only had 10 pitches under his belt. Additionally, a situation where he would have been batting didn't even arise. Had the #9 spot come up, that bridge could have been crossed when it happened. While there might have been cause for disagreement had Villanueva been lifted at that point, the cases on either side of the argument wouldn't have been nearly as strong as the case against the move that occurred last night.
  3. I am officially done. When people switch Nedly bandwagons, there's usually a last straw incident that prompts the conversion. Last night's bullpen management caused this with two members (lcbj68c and OldSchoolSnapper). My last straw incident was the Jenkins non-move against Dempster last year, although I feel hitting Pujols is still the decision that tops them all.
  4. I thought they did away with the Hold stat in the majors 15 years ago? The hold stat is alive and well and can be seen in practically every box score. The game winnning RBI was the short-lived stat that would have died 15-20 years ago.
  5. Catching Vin Scully calling the last three innings of the Cubs-Dodgers game was cool.
  6. Writers can call the manager an idiot (figuratively, of course) in a column or blog, but not in an article. Tom started out great, but I think the objectivity necessary for an article slipped with this statement: "And one that probably wouldn't have happened had Yost stuck with Villanueva, who has pitched seven consecutive scoreless innings since being shifted from the starting rotation to the bullpen." Tom was right on until that point. Subjectivity should be camouflaged in an article format; readers should be forced to work to pinpoint a writer's opinion. Part of that work is knowing what a person has written or said elsewhere. With that knowledge, the reader will be aware of the writer's biases when judging the accuracy of the report. In short, I think Tom made his message clear without the last sentence quoted in the lead post. That last sentence should have been saved for a blog or for his Sunday column.
  7. Add an oil filter to your list.
  8. sheethead, I pared back the long quote in reply #1158. Please check the guidelines behind the "Quoting Messages" link at the top of most board pages.
  9. jhart05, check out the Quoting Messages thread at the top of most board pages.
  10. Sure, it should bother you. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif You'll like this site: Common Errors in English
  11. You're taken more seriously. Quoth the rules: We're going to tighten that up from a "try to" to a "don't." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Also, see this recent AOL-speak thread.
  12. You're welcome, ewiz. It's probably better that it's down system-wide. I'd guess that's a less confusing fix. They may just have to reboot something.
  13. "Re" would be allowed, but I should probably edit that anyway. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. Another beer or another control panel?
  15. u have got 2 b kidding me!!! Regarding "u" and "b," please write out "you," "be," etc.
  16. As I mentioned in Issues, chat's down on four boards that I checked personally. Also, there are several other reports in the Bugs forum. Geez, there are four separate threads over there, each one with one post apiece except for the one I responded to. This forces staff to say "We're checking into it" four different times. Be thankful we're picky about duplicate threads here. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif It's probably too late to do us any good, but I paged Ransom, the guru we used to drag over here last season.
  17. I'll see what I can find out about the chat.
  18. Bill sure makes it sound that way. The only problem with being "reliant" on homers is when a team lacks another way to score, i.e. getting on base.
  19. Each browser has its own way of telling us that graphics aren't loading. It appears that the majority show a "broken graphic" image. Firefox shows the alternative text when the webmaster has bothered to include it. I've now uploaded the board-related graphics to Yuku, but I haven't yet gotten around to getting the skin to point to them. I don't want to put the header graphics on Yuku, though, unless Brian were to decide that the main part of the site should also load those graphics from Yuku. Having a graphic in two places would cause a visitor to load it a second time when moving between the Brewerfan.net and Yuku portions of the site. It would be an inconvenience for those on slow connections. EDIT: The skin is now pointing to the board images at their Yuku locations, so they'll still be available if Brewerfan goes down. If images.yuku.com goes down, we're going to be missing more than just a few board images anyway, so this would seem to be the right move.
  20. Yuku doesn't have popups, but the ads are kind of gross. They show up within messages themselves in up to three posts per page, depending on the number of posts on the page. To stay ad-free on a small board, it'd cost $54 per year.
  21. The number two hitter keeps getting elevated. In the past, you'd often find a weak hitter because "move the runner over" was a central qualification. In more recent years, most managers have recognized the value of OBP in that spot. Now studies are saying that one of the two best hitters on the team should be there, and when they say that, they mean a top notch power hitter. Given that we're not going to see Fielder or Braun hitting second anytime soon, I'm fine with the alternative of getting an OK OBP with some power. Cameron fits that.
  22. The 6:30 experiment was a couple years ago; maybe because it was better for kids in school.
  23. It should be fine now for everyone. Brian had the provider "bounce the server."
  24. Here we go. As Peavey says, the problem is that the main site is down. I just checked things out in a browser with a clean cache, and none of the Brewerfan-hosted graphics are loading. Likewise, when I try to access the main site, I get a 403 Forbidden page. If you're still seeing some or all of the Brewerfan-hosted graphics, they're in your cache. I'm not sure which graphics are hosted where without looking. If this persists, I can do some switcheroos and put some of them on Yuku. I don't have access to the main portion of the site, though, and even if I did, I'm not sure I'd know what to do, anyway. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. The pattern seems to be that you're not getting the pictures that are stored on Brewerfan.net. The "Unread Message" and "Closed Topic" graphics are stored on Brian's server space. Are you seeing the pin graphics for stickied threads? Or are you seeing the words, "Sticky Topic"? Those come from ezBoard. Also, what happens if you go over to the non-Yuku portion of the site (brewerfan.net)? Are there graphics missing over there?
