  1. From a player evaluation standpoint, if strikeouts are the cause of poor hitting, they're a problem. If they're a side-effect of good hitting, no sweat.
  2. Boy, does this ever read like a vent thread. Yeah, it's starting to suck. There's unnecessary condescension peppered in. Also, there are at least a couple cases of unnecessary consecutive posts. If members read before writing and organize their thoughts, consecutive posts shouldn't usually be necessary.
  3. I've had that happen before, but I forgot about the issue. Thanks for the reminder. (When that happened to me, I remember being able to dig out the code to fix the mistake, but I've forgotten how to do that, too. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif)
  4. I stepped in some gum. It was two feet from an ash tray and six feet from a trash can.
  5. I blame obsessedwithbrewcrew. Will tomorrow night's game be televised?
  6. A player can remain designated for assignment for ten days while his team decides what to do. The player is paid and accumulates service time during that span, but doesn't count toward either the 25 or 40-man roster. In Crabbe's case, he can be traded to another team as long as that team keeps him on its 25-man roster. As soon as a team attempts to send him to the minors, he will be offered back to the Brewers at half of the Rule 5 price.
  7. Sweet would be the same as 7-Up, Sprite, etc.
  8. Unless it's a real emergency, to bring up Branyan--or anyone without options and not on the 40-man roster, it should be more than just a whim or to have the guy around for only a few days.
  9. Call this driver's company, answer their questions, and they'll probably send an adjuster to the body shop of your choice and cut a check right there.
  10. The free diagnostic thingers at places like AutoZone will work if the "Service engine soon" light is lit. If the problem is intermittent and the light is off, then you have to use one of the paid thingers that Midas or a car dealer would have. From what I understand, cars with OnStar can be diagnosed for free without visiting a mechanic.
  11. Sheets and Suppan have both had no trade clauses at their requests. As a matter of fact, a team is very unlikely--if not completely unlikely--to ask for a no trade clause on its behalf.
  12. The big stuff doesn't change in the In-Game Threads. Cussing and condescension toward other members are out. The thing is, because the threads can be a few hundred posts long, violations aren't always spotted.
  13. Andruw's name was pronounced that way a lot when he first came up. It must carry over from his being from Curacao. I'm guessing that Brian is being accurate.
  14. Dang, that's hard to read. I know you didn't try to make that story 1" by 25", but it sure is hard to read in that format. It seemed to work fine in Firefox and Safari, but just in case, I stripped out the crazy table code that pasted over from mlb.com.
  15. Some of the writers think Eric was tipping his pitches. That would certainly be a good reason not to talk a lot about the nature of any adjustment involved. And it might explain what could appear to be a lot of seemingly weak base hits.
  16. We do have the fun threads around here where we all get downright silly. I don't think anyone wants them to be the norm, but they're a kick when they pop up. Gotta say we haven't really had one lately, though. One thing about fun threads... it seems that there's always a crowd that doesn't get the point of the thread and takes it seriously.
  17. Why isn't the Brewerfan store selling pocket protectors?
  18. It's in Brewerfan's Roster Management FAQ, which is one of the plethora of internet FAQs that need to be updated with this new information. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Brewerfan's code is frozen right now while the site's guts undergo a major rewrite. New content can be added once the new code is in place. In the meantime, additional references are available in the Transactions Forum FAQ. Feel free to use it to ask questions or provide more references.
  19. When you're served a cup of shark fin soup, you're supposed to ad a spoonful of cognac. A Chinese soup spoon holds a fairly generous amount of cognac.
  20. They definitely should have shown the Molina thing from start to finish. The amateurs involved probably confused this with a fan on the field.
  21. The year a player is drafted counts. What happened was that during the 2006-07 off-season, another protected year was tacked on by the new collective bargaining agreement. It went into effect immediately. I'd bet on almost all internet FAQs still not being modified to acknowledge this rule. After that, as you say, there are three option years. If an option isn't used during one of those years, it's an additional year that the player isn't exposed to Rule 5 should he be cut from the 40-man.
  22. It's 4 years now, logan3825, and 5 years if a guy was signed at age 18 or less. That increase was the reason the Brewers had so much 40-man roster flexibility during the 2006-07 offseason and throughout much of the 2007 season.
  23. Does placing a player on the 60-day DL remove him from the 40-man? Yes. Yo will be placed there when a roster spot is needed. It's just a matter of time.
  24. Making it even crazier, Buck actually managed the beginning and the end of the 1980 season. He took over when Bambi had his heart attack, and took over again when Bambi resigned late in the year.
