  1. The Brewers used to train in Sun City, and I wonder if one of the reasons they left was that the retirement crowd wasn't a demographic that showed up at games. Of course, like all spring training facilities, the one at Sun City would have gotten old just like any other would.
  2. Talkin' Brewers - 3/8; Early Show Saturday -- Noon Central
  3. and "must of"
  4. use to, suppose to
  5. Leaving the ball up in the zone over a span of several spring games would be a cause for concern. Likewise, velocity would be a concern. What definitely shouldn't concern managers is runs given up. Even walks could be misleading if a pitcher is assigned to work with a repertoire of pitches that aren't necessarily designed to win the game.
  6. What managers definitely shouldn't do is react to spring training box score stats. Pitchers need to be graded based on what they're assigned to do on a given day. Those assignments frequently have to do with preparing for the season much more than they do with winning the game at hand.
  7. The real question seems to be who plays against left handed pitching; neither Gross nor Gwynn would be a prime candidate to do that.
  8. If someone suggested that the Brewers ought to look at this situation and consider tweaking their 'system' for judging and compensating pre-arby players, I could buy into that.
  9. I would think they might consider or end up with Gross/Dillon, with Hart shifting to center on days Joe plays.
  10. "Estampillas de comida" (no uppercase on "comida") is the translation for Food Stamps. WIC would use the English "WIC" acronym after explaining that it means "Programa Especial de Nutrición Suplementaria para Mujeres, Bebés, y Niños". Here are a couple of Spanish-language FAQs (PDF) Food Stamp Basics (Spanish) WIC Fact Sheet - Espanol
  11. I'd hate it if Wisconsin unthawed in spring. I remember the year we unthawed on Fathers Day. Corn crops were damaged and people had to replant portions of their gardens.
  12. Unthaw is awful. I think it's even come up before in this thread. I can't say I've ever heard anyone say irreglardless, though. I'm thankful for that.
  13. Maybe one of the women out there could shed some light of this, but I'm wondering what the appeal is regarding those covers people put on their toilet seat backs.
  14. For now, yes. If he forces the team's hand with a Gallardoesque Nashville performance, that bridge can be crossed when it happens.
  15. The Brewers have always been in Arizona; they inherited it from the Pilots. I see a mixed set of advantages and disadvantages. Travel is much nicer in Arizona, and the weather doesn't often include rain that covers the whole state for several days. On the other side of the coin, Florida is closer to Milwaukee. 'Thin air' issues in Arizona can make it hard for managers and coaches to be able to tell if certain pitchers' pitches are working. Also, a move to Florida could enable the Brewers to field a Florida State League team that plays in the Brewers' own facility.
  16. Bush and Capuano are in an unusual group that fall under an obscure rule: they can be optioned provided they clear revocable waivers.
  17. That's the issue in trying to determine the next legend. We could be in a situation that gives us five or six years of Prince, Braun, etc., and that's just not enough to qualify as a 'legend'. Actually, I'd place Reggie White in that non-legend category, too. In comparison, Molitor, Yount, and Favre were all part of the state's sports fabric for 15 years or more.
  18. on accident
  19. More on irregardless.
  20. It does make sense, DrWood, until you get into the issue of having to trade or release decent players to make room for others, then finding a need for those same decent players a couple of months down the road.
  21. Do people really say that, Chuckie, or do we only see it on message boards? I agree that "prolly" sucks.
  22. Whether it's Villanueva in Nashville (which I tend to disagree with) or Parra in Nashville (which I do agree with), even though 2009 and beyond is valid, I don't think it's necessary to go there to justify using the minor league option. Simply put, the season is a marathon rather than a sprint. You need to have 30-plus players ready to contribute. That might mean a couple of players from the top 25 starting the year in the minors.
  23. When people say for all intensive purposes.
  24. Did Prince seek out reporters to talk about this or was he approached? If he sought them out, there's a problem. If he was approached, and I'd guess he was, I don't see a problem with his comments.
