  1. I think the mods here bend over backwards to try to keep threads open. The Ned Yost … Possible replacement? thread is a prime example of mods trying to keep the discussion on track. I see Brian reopened the thread with very explicit directions as to how discussion should proceed. I might have been inclined to do that with a polite request in the right forum. It wouldn't have been the first time I've reopened a thread on that basis. Let me tell you, though… thread-starters that say "This is not a today only trend or rant" in the second sentence send up a big yellow flag. Ironically, posts that say something like "Sorry if this is better placed in the vent thread" tend not to be vents at all. Another hint: maybe I'd have gotten a better idea of what you were talking about had you broken your thoughts into more paragraphs. I just pasted your three-paragraph post into a text editor and divided it up into eight (meaning there probably should have been at least six). It's the writer's burden to be clear, not the reader's burden to figure out what's being said. You would have read about paragraphing (not as a rule, but as a politeness guideline) in the Rules of Conduct language section: The only other thing I'd suggest to make your points/intentions clearer would be to use an inverted pyramid structure, with the general stuff coming first and the specifics later.

  3. The forum defaults to central time. But logged in users can override that and choose any time zone they want.
  4. That happened on ezBoard, too. But I don't think it happened over there until that push with the Digg stuff.
  5. Here's the text of Bob's speech. It really has to be experienced on video, though. The reactions of the Hall of Famers on the stage is part of what made the speech so cool.
  6. This was definitely a direct result of the changeover. The threads were posted by veteran members who'd normally do something else. Yuku's new message notification isn't very clear. It relies on changing the color of the Navigation button at the top right corner of any forum page. That's not very intuitive, and does no good at all for internet users who can't view colors. A Yuku staff member is working on a better alternative, but no rollout timetable seems to be set. Here's what to look for. If there are no new messages, the button remains gray: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a244/casey1992/boardpics/bfnet/bf%20yuku/FAQ/no_new_yuku_message.gif If there are new messages, the button turns bright pale blue: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a244/casey1992/boardpics/bfnet/bf%20yuku/FAQ/new_yuku_message.gif Yuku's Firefox extension is a big help for managing messages. It places an icon and new message indicator in the browser's status bar. If a member has new messages, the "light" will blink. What's really wonderful is that this works even if a member isn't visiting a Yuku page. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a244/casey1992/boardpics/bfnet/bf%20yuku/FAQ/yuku_extension_1.gif Here are pictures of the Yuku extension menu and its Messages submenu. Note that you can log in/out without visiting a Yuku page. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a244/casey1992/boardpics/bfnet/bf%20yuku/FAQ/yuku_extension_2.gif http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a244/casey1992/boardpics/bfnet/bf%20yuku/FAQ/yuku_extension_3.gif
  7. Actually, the closing ceremonies were on MSN and were wonderfully done. Matt Vasgersian and Bill Schroeder said next to nothing and let the show take over. Miller Park's opening, however, was covered by Channel 12, and it was horrible. We had to listen to their dumb reporters babble about stuff that had been covered by every other channel previously, and they completely cut out Robin Yount's speech. It reminds me of when they did Monday night Packer pregame coverage; they simply wanted to 'show off' every reporter they could.

  9. We talked about that a little bit in the Mozilla didn't work…browser-specific issues thread. It seems intermittent. It may be a Yuku issue. Do you see anything in the site's CSS that could cause this?http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=6857/t/Mozilla-didn-t-work---boards---browser-specific-issues.html
  10. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a244/casey1992/boardpics/bfnet/countdown%20thread/edrodriguez.gif
  11. There may be an issue there because Brian has been banning a lot of anonymous proxies. It's gotten to the point where banned posters are calling out people over here on other forums without our members even knowing they're being named.
  12. b19, I'd suggest Camino, which is very nice, but that doesn't really address the issue of you being forced to leave your favorite browser to use a site that you direct. I tested the other Safari-based browsers on my system (OmniWeb and Shiira); they have the same issue with the post editor. The editor works fine in all my other browsers. JoeHova, I've seen the breadcrumbs (navigation path) disappear in more than one browser. It must be a broader-based issue.
  13. In Yo's first start, Ned said he was comfortable with 110 pitches. But I do kind of figure that he'd avoid sending Yo out there for that many pitches whenever he has the opportunity not to.
  14. I got it. There are actually two of those threads. Maybe someone should whip up a designated thread for this purpose until everyone gets used to Yuku. bhf expressed his concern about staying in touch yesterday here in Issues.
  15. Those posts don't seem to be characteristic of this board. Do you have an example? I wouldn't want to see them often, either. Once in a blue moon, there may be a legitimate reason for a thread like that.
  16. Wise is out of options. That's the reason the Brewers were originally able to pick him up on waivers. We're already discussing the legitimacy of the bereavement leave in the Dillon/Dessens Up, Linebrink to Bereavement, Weeks to AAA thread. Let's keep it in one place. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. Just so people know FTJ and hawing aren't crazy, I deleted the posts. This was the first time since the migration that I've seen Yuku slow to ezBoard speed. Actually, another silver lining to the road work is that this is a 'reconstruction' over the old road. It's more than a simple resurfacing because a new road bed was placed over the old asphalt. Full reconstruction in this area often results in finding peat. That can add weeks of time and hundreds of thousands of dollars to the cost. Because of peat, one nearby project had to be extended an extra year in order to budget the money.
  18. mothership, I just tested this about five times with both the post editor and quick reply. For me, the "stay in topic" checkbox remains the way I last used it.
  19. I don't think we'll have to worry about the 'last post' information in the discussion lists going away. Its look may change from time to time until Brian lands on whatever works best, though. One issue entails what to do about extremely long usernames (the ones without spaces). Those will probably have to be truncated or made scrollable. If they're left alone, they'll affect the widths of the other columns up and down the page. Like whizkid, I'll often pick a thread to read based on whoever may have posted to it last.
  20. Chat room capacity appears to be unlimited. EDIT: Where did Invader3K's question go? http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smile.gif
  21. Yeah, it's the work crowd that will be the slowest to convert. I don't understand why IT people are so afraid of allowing employees to have access modern browsers for basic web browsing, though. While IE 6 and IE 7 aren't meant to coexist on the same system, the alternatives don't mess with the OS. Off the top of my head, Windows users have Firefox, Opera, SeaMonkey, Flock, K-Meleon, and Safari available to them. I'm glad to hear that the 'title' attribute (which creates tooltips) works for links on IE 6. I've used it in posts to add the author, site, and date, for instance. "Title" is supposed to work on just about every HTML tag, though. IE 6 misses out on supporting the attribute on a whole bunch of them.
  22. Exactly, adambr2. Nobody's going to allow the playoff picture to be affected because a team hasn't finished its 162 game schedule. The really funky stuff happens early in the season. Examples: Standing W-L Pct GB 1st place 6-1 .857 0 2nd place 10-5 .667 0 Standing W-L Pct GB 1st place 10-5 .667 0 1st place 6-3 .667 1 Standing W-L Pct GB 1st place 6-2 .750 1/2 2nd place 10-5 .667 0
  23. I love lists, Jay. http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smile.gif
  24. My new driveway approach, caused by road construction, bugs me. 1. I have to walk 300 feet to the closest neighbor to get to my car. It'll be that way through the weekend. 2. Although it's a net improvement (the slope is a bit better), it does cover nearly 20 feet of concrete with asphalt to get that slope. 3. I'm constantly feeling that I have to supervise. For instance, I discussed with the highway department honcho which areas would be backfilled with dirt and which areas would be backfilled with gravel. Yesterday, the dirt came; I swear the dirt's where the gravel's supposed to go. The silver lining is that this work is being paid for by my friends and neighbors (taxpayers). This whole road construction deal has bugged me, too. The road was entirely gravel for over two weeks, however, traffic ignored that. People would go 50 MPH (too fast); other drivers thought 50 MPH wasn't fast enough and would pass. And when I'd go to get my mail, it was guaranteed that someone would fly by, blow dust all over me, and cause me to need a shower.
  25. Just to clarify a little more on links… You'll see three fields in the box for creating links. The first one is for the URL; that's self-explanatory. The title field creates a tooltip. You can add a few words of additional explanation that'll appear when a reader hovers over the link with his/her mouse. The text field shows what appears as part of the message. Example: Fake link to nowhere; hover over me I'm not sure if tooltips on links will show up in IE 6. Thankfully, there's reason to hope that IE 6 will soon face a merciful end.
