  1. I do agree with Brewcrew in that there's probably nothing to this. Unless Brinson is headed to the DL and neither of Broxton or Phillips can be recalled this just makes absolutely no sense. Kirk hasn't even played well for Colorado Springs. There are enough guys on this team that can play the OF on this 25 and Brinson certainly isn't going to sit for Nieuwenhuis. Dubon, Wren, DeJesus -- any of these guys would be much better candidates to fill the open 40 man slot. Hell you could just put Hernan Perez out there, or Thames...they have OF options..I'm not buying this...at all.
  2. I will bet you dimes to donuts it is not true at all..I mean brewer nation on twitter?? What kind of a source is that?? Just trying to get people worked into a frenzy!
  3. I wouldn't tempt it, unless the crew puts up at least two this inning...I finish with Hader..Swarzak, Knebel
  4. That would be ideal. I assume you mean Hader, Woodruff, Ortiz and Burnes? It could happen, but my guess is that it could take either Woodruff, Ortiz or Burnes if Brinson is not in it. Question: How would you rank those three on order of preference on keeping out of any deal? Personally, I'd say 1. Corbin Burnes 2. Brandon Woodruff 3. Luis Ortiz Burnes is a dealbreaker for me, personally. I think he's going to be a sneaky good major leaguer in the mold of a Tim Hudson. Woodruff and Ortiz is a toss-up for me, but I prefer keeping Woodruff because he's closer to the Majors and I'm not as worried about his future conditioning. How would you rank them? 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D. untouchable. Let's think Mets with the forthcoming pitching prospects. Woodruff our Harvey, Burnes our Syndergaard, Hader are Matz, and Ortiz our Degrom. Only we have a lot better hitters to back that than NY ever did. And they made it to the WS. Maybe Freddy Peralta or Marcos Diplan can be our Zach Wheeler. Every one of our guys comes with more team control than Gray. If we hadn't had such a weak division nor, our own winning record, the rebuild would be working perfectly, having Hader/Woodruff play this season, Burnes/Ortiz at some point next season. Moving multiples of these guys for a less team controlled player will hurt this franchise's future where it stands. The thing I don't get is all the giddyness by everyone about the Brewers prospects and rthe rebuild..well, I would simply ask anyone that feels that way then..what if the rebuild doesn't work?? Then what?? No one seems to think of that..The way most talk around here, it's like they are 100% certain it will. So now, the Brewers didn't trade any of their "top prospects" when they had a chance to improve, when they ARE actually in a pennant race, and then these prospects don't help the Brewers rebuild much. Then everyone will look back and think "maybe we should have gone for it in 2017 when we had the chance". Then it's too late. You ALWAYS deal in the known vs the unknown. The known is..as of this moment you ARE in a pennant race...the unknown is IF you will have that chance again in say the next 5 years or not.
  5. Not me!! I'd love it, because it would likely mean Phillips is gone, which would mean something BIG coming back.
  6. Marlins willing to trade him. Now this is a guy that there should be ZERO reason the Brewers shouldn't try to acquire...Under control for 3 more years at a cheap salary. Why wouldn't DS pursue him hard?? Any reason he shouldn't?? https://twitter.com/MaxWildstein/status/890654449940611073
  7. If the small market D rays are "going for it", why the hell shouldn't the small market Brewers. Opportunities to make the playoffs(and once there ANYTHING can happen), don't come around very often for small market clubs typically, so why not capitalize on the opportunities you do have?? If it doesn't work, it doesn't work..it's no different then banking on prospects to get you to the promised land. I'd say there is even less of a chance of that working, and even if it does..when?? Highly doubtful Stearns will make any other moves..but he should, and I know Mark A would like him to. Flukey season or not, they are still in this, why not do what you can(at a reasonable cost) to bring in as much/many improvements as you can for this year, and still have those players in future years as well.
  8. There are also no guarantees that Blazek will pitch poorly. There is also no way to know that the Brewers assume they will lose tomorrow and as such are punting a spot in the rotation, that is all conjecture on your part. Also it would have to be a starter ready to pitch Saturday which eliminates ~80% of the options. Well, I'm pretty sure Sonny Gray's next Start would be Saturday, and Justin Verlander's is Sunday..soooo yeah there's that.
  9. Seriously?? Blazek in the midst of a pennant race?? Sure, he's facing mad max, but there's no guarantees Max will just mow the Brewers down. Why the hell do you "punt" a spot in the rotation, ASSUMING you will lose tomorrow anyway?? In the middle of a pennant race?? Now would be the PERFECT time to go acquire a starter.
  10. Especially if it's the only move they make..if it is, it makes no sense.
  11. The problem is, he isn't under control, and barely moves the needle for contending this year. More is still needed otherwise this move looks questionable at best(though Cordell is no big deal).
  12. For your sake, I hope your employer doesn't drug test. Well incase you missed it, the talks between the Yankees and A's for Gray SEEM to be centering on a Yankees prospect that is ranked #71 over all and another that's not even in the top 100. So if that's all it's going to take, that's not even close to emptying the farm. That's like equal Ray and Dubon or Ortiz. I'd do that in a heartbeat.
  13. Now go get Wilson, Verlander and Kinsler and Gray and make a serious run at this thing! And you can likely do that without "emptying the farm". Take on the Tigers $$ instead.
  14. If you really want this team to compete this season it will take multiple acquisitions, imo. Swarzak has been better than Barnes so by the Brewers needs, it's a fairly decent add on their part. EXACTLY...and that is what I am hoping to see. But impact acquisitions, a Meh reliever won't do it.
  15. [sarcasm][/sarcasm]LOL Way to go DS!! this will certainly push the Brewers over the top! HUGE Trade.
  16. So...this is on Sonny Gray in regards to talks with the Yankees...IF this is the package headliner(s), anyone want to re examine saying Gray would cost too much?? Remember...they would also be getting Yonder Alonso in this deal..Florial is #71, and Mateo is not even a top 100 prospect...if those are the two headliners to the deal..are you telling me the Brewers couldn't have easily beat that WITHOUT touching Brinson or even one of the Pitching prospecs?? Feinsand notes that colleague Jon Morosi reported the Athletics’ interest in center field prospect Estevan Florial earlier today and adds infield/outfield prospect Jorge Mateo could also be a part of talks.
  17. I'm not surprised in the least...As I had assumed all along. Being mentioned with everyone, but not acquiring anyone. Oh well, looks like Brewers aren't going to do anything. I have a feeling that Stearns is the type of GM that WAY overvalues his prospects, and thinks most of them are worth a lot more than they really are. So no matter what, he is always going to feel like acquiring someone is an overpay, when in reality it's likely not. I think he has no problems giving up "fringe" prospects or guys that are blocked (Cooper), but when it actually comes down to trading away(what he thinks is) a higher level prospect...He just can't bring himself to do it. I think no matter what, he would always feel like he didn't get a very good deal, and he can't stomach that. I just hope his rebuild works, but it's a long shot I'd say.
  18. He was selling then...that's always easier to do..when it comes to buying though...he hasn't really been in this position before...it's a different ball game. You have ot have the stomach/kahunas for it.
  19. Yeah in his own mind he is...he's a lot like Ted Thompson in that regard..in their minds, they are always the smartest guy in the room...except they aren't because someone one ups them, and looks lbrilliant for doing it.
  20. Because buying too quickly costs too much. The Cubs bought quickly on Quintana, and I would say his cost was relatively low for a pitcher under control the next couple of seasons..They essentially gave up two A ballers that weren't going to be seeing the majors anytime soon anyway. If that is a high price to pay, I'd hate to see a cheap price. I get that they were a couple of the Cubs highest rated prospects, but just because it was THEIR highest rated prospects doesn't mean the Brewers would have had to given up their highest rated prospects. If the White Sox would have been willing to take quantity(and who knows one way or another) over quality, you don't think the Brewers couldn't have beat that offer pretty easily with some A and AA guys that probably weren't going to be a part of the Crew's future anyway?? I thought the Cubs got away cheap. The other reason you don't wait to make a deal is it gives other teams(cubs specifically), to swoop in at the last minute at steal them out from under you. Now you didn't get the player and your main competitor just got even better, at probably the cost of a few pieces the Cubs weren't going to be needing anyway. You snooze you lose. Does that mean overpay?? No. Let's take Justin Verlander for example..now, the THEORY is, if a team is willing to absorb most of Verlander's contract, it's thought you could get away with lessor prospects and probably get Wilson and maybe Kinsler too. That seems like a deal the Crew should make, don't you?? Why would Stearns be concerned about the $$?? Like Mark A told him.."I will worry about paying the bills, do what you need to do".
  21. I have no issue with trading prospects for controllable talent. I don't even have an issue witb trading for Gray, if the price is right. What I have an issue with is the attitude by some (not you) that Stearns is just a big idiot who doesn't care about winning because he hasn't made a big splash a week before the trade deadline in response to a losing streak. I'm actually kind of relieved to this point in a way because I like seeing that he isn't going to make decisions based on emotions, which is no way to run a team. If we trade for Gray, hey, that's fine, I'll look at it based on what we got and what we gave up and evaluate from there, not evaluate based on whether I thought we should buy or sell. But the Stearns' criticism at this point is just ridiculous IMO. He's trying to balance the present and the future, as he should, and it's not an easy job. We have no idea what the depth or content of the discussions that have gone on and in many cases he's competing with many other teams for one player. Some seem to think it's just as simple as 'Hey here's some prospects that may never pan out, now give us Sonny Gray, and this is just so easy and why hasn't Stearns done this yet?!?!' Okay, maybe I will concede that he isn't an idiot..but what can NOT be argued is that he is definitely not being aggressive, and the question is why?? By now he knows the market, and the closer it gets to the deadline, the price sure isn't going down on guys..Let's put it this way, if at this point Stearns has TRULY decided that he is going to acquire someone, why hasn't he done it yet?? There is ZERO reason to wait, if that's what you are going to do. The Twins have acquired Garcia, the Royals just got a haul of players..They obviously feel like the cost is worth it, and why wouldn't you strike as quickly as you can?? why wouldn't you want your acquisition performing for you for as much of the rest of the season as possible?? The fact nothing is done yet, leads me to believe Stearns has decided to do something, but yet, is too afraid to actually do it.
