  1. Exactly this! Not sure what DS is waiting for?? They need a shot in the arm! If Gray is the target, why in the world would you let him pitch for Oakland tomorrow night. Quit sitting on your hands DS, the division lead is dwindling!
  2. From Bob Nightengale....https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2017/07/17/mlb-trade-deadline-rumors-sonny-gray-jd-martinez/484205001/ Sonny Gray The Brewers may be the most aggressive team pursuing Gray, who pitched three years for Brewers pitching coach Derek Johnson at Vanderbilt. The Brewers, whose rebuild has suddenly been accelerated by their first-place status in the NL Central, not only have the prospects, but also a fiery owner wanting to land him. “There’s an old saying, 'Be careful what you wish for because you may get it,' ’’ Brewers owner Mark Attanasio told reporters Sunday. “If you love your prospects too much, maybe that’s an issue, also. “We have to make the right move, either way.’’ The Brewers still have to exercise caution, not thwarting their rebuild efforts because of their 4 ½-game lead over the Cubs. If they didn’t believe that the cost of Quintana was worth surrendering their elite prospects, would they give up three of their top 20 like Brett Phillips, Brandon Woodruff and Corbin Burnes for Gray? The Astros, 62-30, actually may be the team that most needs Gray. Sure, they’ll cruise to the AL West title with or without him, but with the way the Astros have dominated this year, anything short of a World Series berth will be a disappointment. The Astros would prefer to land Detroit Tigers All-Star Michael Fulmer, and likely would include No. 1 prospect Francis Martes for him, but they inquired, just like the Cubs, and came up empty. If Fulmer is traded, the Tigers say, it won’t be until this winter when everyone can make a bid. The Astros realize that Gray is the ideal front-line starter in this market to make a run for their first World Series title in franchise history, giving them a dynamic rotation with All-Stars Dallas Keuchel and Lance McCullers Jr. Prediction: Gray goes to the Astros for starter Joe Musgrove, prized pitching prospect Forrest Whitley and outfield prospect Teoscar Hernandez.
  3. Be interesting to see if Gray IS their target if they get something done late tonight or tomorrow since he is scheduled to start for Oakland on Wednesday.
  4. Because most are major leaguers, and there is something to be said for that. They could turn it around pretty quickly
  5. If I offered Davies, Broxton, Villar, Ray and another minor piece...It's a done deal
  6. You snooze you lose...the longer he waits, the more likely it becomes someone else swoops in and grabs Gray or whoever else his targets are. You panic and overreact because of what the Cubs did and you lose a helluva lot more than if you move forward cautiously for a week. Not an overreaction...you are currently in 1st place..upgrades are needed though, that's pretty obvious. Besides, it's not like we are talking a rental here. If it's a young controllable arm, it's a no brainer(to me anyway), regardless of circumstances.
  7. You aren't "emptying" the farm system. they would still have plenty of prospects, and besides, not all of them will ever set foot in Miller park anyway. You can't have them all.
  8. You snooze you lose...the longer he waits, the more likely it becomes someone else swoops in and grabs Gray or whoever else his targets are.
  9. If DS is going to acquire Gray or anyone else, the time to do it is RIGHT now. No sense in waiting..get as many starts out of him as possible down the stretch. Got a feeling Cubs are going to run off a bunch in a row, don't sit back and wait...STRIKE DS.
  10. What if they want Davies as part of it, and it avoids them having to give up Brinson and/or Hader, would everyone be on board with that??
  11. Why do I have this feeling that if Stearns does something, it's going to be something no one saw coming?? Like acquiring a Pitcher no one even thought was available. I'd have ZERO issues trading Brinson if it were for a guy like Chris Archer for example.
  12. I don't want to see them give up the farm(unless it's worth it), but the reality is...they are just prospects..who knows what they will actually become?? So let's say they see the window as being 2 years from now...well, what if that window never comes because the prospects you thought would be ready...aren't?? You have a chance to make the playoffs THIS year..the farm system is deep, you may not have another chance like this in who knows how long..I say go out and get Gray or Quintana or someone else who you deem the price to be reasonable for and go for it..seize the momentum now. Tomorrow is promised to no one.
  13. I mean, there's just no way they'll get that much from anyone...But for arguments sake..let's say the brewers were willing to give that up..You are talking about a young Pitcher that is under control for another 2 years, and you could possibly sign him long term. As valued as pitching is..Even though that package should be able to get you a #1 starter(better then either of these two), IF you had to give that up...I can think of a lot worse situations to give those players up in then for a young controllable Pitcher
  14. Hold on to good players and try to win? What a radical idea! Exactly! I mean I don't get why some people here don't understand that a lot of the players the Crew has now are young, and part of the future..You look back on all the trade threads here though, and you can find one for a vast majority of players currently on the roster...a lot of which should be part of the future, not trade bait. It almost makes me wonder if a vast majority here will be literally PO'd if the Brewers are in it at the deadline, and don't trade anyone?? That would really baffle me if that happened, but I can almost guarantee some here will be mad about it.
  15. It amazes me that almost EVERY single player the Brewers have, almost every poster here wants to trade them at some point. Good gosh, you can only acquire so many minor league players..at some point you have to start trying to win. Posters want players to have good halves of the season so they can move them at the deadline..I think that's ridiculous.
  16. Milwaukee Brewers‏Verified account @Brewers 3m3 minutes ago RHP Oliver Drake has been acquired from Baltimore in exchange for a player to be named or cash.
  17. Brewers can easily afford both though. Try to make your team better...adding Puig would almost certainly do that.
  18. I'd take Puig in a heartbeat...for a couple of minor leaguers. Disappointing that the Dodgers thought they could get/expected Braun.
  19. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 11m11 minutes ago Sources: #Brewers were team that won claim on #Dodgers' Puig. Teams made legitimate attempt to complete deal. Braun was part of talks. 148 retweets 65 likes
  20. And after the Will Smith trade...Stearns gets taken to the cleaners. How the Heck do you trade BOTH Lucroy and Jeffress and not get Gallo included too?? If Stearns had a chance to take him...but another lessor prospect..well...Break this down individually...Will Smith ALONE brought back SF's #1 organizational prospect, PLUS a Catcher..said prospect is rated #63. Now, going one for one..Jeremy Jeffress brought you Ortiz..the #65 prospect. So, all you got for Lucroy was the #21 prospect?? You traded an All Star Catcher for an OFer...Tradfng both of these guys should have been these two PLUS Gallo. Stearns panicked. I'm not sure this is even better than cleveland's deal when you figure the Brewers were getting that for Lucroy alone..Loved the Smith deal..he gets an "A" from me on that one..but sorry to say, he gets an "F", on this one..that isn't NEARLY enough value for an all star Catcher and a bullpen arm under team control till 2020. he had plenty of time to trade Jeffress in the upcoming years. Overall grade for the two trades today... D
  21. Acquiring young talent though means probably at MINIMUM 2-3 years before they are in the bigs, and that means probably another 2-3 from them to all gell together, which means we are looking at 5-6 years minimum before the Brewers are winning again..that's simply too long. I loathe losing..as a baseball coach of an amateur team myself..you can only take so much of it.
  22. Which goes to show you..That prospects aren't jack..I will bet you anything that this "rebuild" won't even start for 5 more years...What I find interesting is that some of you that are slamming acquiring "major league ready" talent, are also advocating for Derek Norris. I'd like that move, but you can't have it both ways.
  23. Because if you're a professional and have any kind of a competitive bone in your body..you should ALWAYS be trying to win games. That is afte rall why they play Isn't it?? Who says if you don't acquire a few major league ready pieces in trades, and everything falls into place that you can't win next year already?? I just hate teams that purposely try to lose..It ruins the integrity of the game.
