  1. You guys don't seem to understand that almost no player sits unless a deal is completed...You see it all the time, a player pulled from the game because he was traded, but never sitting out in anticipation of a trade that may never even happen.
  2. I agree with Tim Allen on AM 1250...enough with all this "numerous" prospects talk...or "big potential" guys...give me one sure fire can't miss prospect for Luc..1-1. Call it a day. That's what this organization needs more than anything else.
  3. Bauer is not very good, and anyways would not help us very much given his remaining years of team control. Pretty sure, he's 100% better than any current Brewer pitcher...and there's this thing called a contract extension. Pretty sure that's legal. You guys worry way too much about "team control" you can control a player as long as you want...if you resign him.
  4. "Significant" Piece is all in who is interpreting what a "significant" piece constitutes...to me none of the Indians prospects are "significant". They are good, but not "blow me away" pieces. I agree with others...my definition of "significant" is a top 10 prospect(at a minimum), or a young current major leaguer that no one would previously think was obtainable. For example..Trevor Bauer would be a "significant" piece.
  5. Then you're going to have to settle for a back-of-the-rotation starter or average starting position player. The advantage of low-minors players is you get potential superstars. That is kind of the point of the rebuild. You're trading away proven commodities for potential superstars. Deadline deals between buyers and sellers are commodity for prospect deals, not commodity for commodity. Rebuilding clubs aren't really in the business of trying to acquire proven commodities and contenders aren't really in the business of trading them. And a few top 51-100 minors players, at any level in the minors, is worth way, way more than a comp pick. IF IF IF they realize that potential...that's the key...Look at Mat Gamel, look at several other minor league ball players(especially for the Brewers), that had "star" potential, that flamed out. You get 3 minor league players say ranked 96-99...now what happens if NONE of them pan out?? You are right back to square 1 and have to start all over again. Give me two top 25-50 prospects and I will bet all of Donald Trump's $$ that the odds of one of them working out to be a superstar are better than the odds that any of the 3 ranked 96-99 will.
  6. If you do this right...you can be a winner again in 2-3 years. Why wait longer if the possibility exists to do it sooner?? It's about using your assets to acquire the right players that will get you back to where you want to be the soonest..that's the scouts/GM's job to identify those players...but I'd be willing to bet NONE of those players are currently in A. Typically they are in A ball for a reason. if they were THAT good right now, they'd be in AAA or even in the bigs right now..Sure you might get the right guy that's at A right now that will be a total stud in3 years...but good luck identifying that. It's a lot easier to identify the already proven commodities..that's what Luc is...that's what you should get in return. Period. As far as the control mentioned above...who cares about that?? People here but too much stock in that...if they can play...they will be resigned by the Brewers...Attanasio is NOT Bud Selig. People seem to forget that.
  7. Then you're going to have to settle for a back-of-the-rotation starter or average starting position player. The advantage of low-minors players is you get potential superstars. Potential being the key word...Luc is too valuable to throw away on player(s) with POTENTIAL. He's a proven commodity, thus you should get proven commodity(s) back. If the potential doesn't pan out, you set the rebuilding back even further. A back of the rotation starter or average position player for an All star catcher under control for another year and a half and potentially the best at his position?? If that's the best you can do...hold him and take the comp pick..that player would have as much potential as a low A player would.
  8. I'd take the Texas deal...but make it Profar and Gallo...Done. see how easy that is??
  9. I don't get why people are willing to settle for A and AA guys for Luc. What?? So the rebuilding job can MAYBE then start to come to fruition in 5+ years?? No thanks. I want at least 1 or two stud AAA players for Luc. But single A guys should NOT be the centerpieces...they are still too far away.
  10. I don't know why many of you think that the Indians shouldn't have to give up their "untouchables"?? You have to give something to get something and quite frankly, if Stearns lowers is asking price just to make a deal...well..then he doesn't get it either. Look at what Chapman...a relief pitcher just brought from the Cubs to the Yankees. If a relief pitcher can get that, then LuCroy should easily be worth that. If I'm Stearns I either get exactly what I want...or Jonathon goes nowhere. Period. Get major league ready talent....speaking of which, why not ask for Trevor Bauer?? Or one of their other Stud arms...so what if they say no. I'm asking if I'm Stearns, even if it means including more to get it done.
  11. I just don't get why the Brewers think A and AA guys mean anything?? they don't...unless they plan on the rebuild lasting 5-6 years or more and if they think fans are going to wait that long...they are sadly mistaken. 3 years tops, that better be it. I have no patience for losing...at anything. Never have, never will. You should always be trying to win. It's like Bucks fans, that want them to get lottery picks for the next couple of years still...because unproven talent will help you win faster?? The brewers think they are acquiring all these assets..for what?? As trade chips for other "possible" talent?? AAA and the major league level is what gets you better, and gets you the ammo to acquire better talent. They should be solely focused on those two levels right now. Who cares about A and AA ballers??
  12. You should ALWAYS be trying to compete...ALWAYS. You play to win the game. Period.
  13. I love the aggressiveness in wanting to make the club better and to win now. Wish Ted Thompson would learn something from Doug. That being said, everyone knew(or at least i think they did), the Crew wasn't going to win this year with the staff they were going to trot out there. Had DM understood that and known that right away, they likely could have gotten a better Pitcher earlier in FA for the same(or around the same) money as they are paying Lohse.
  14. I don't understand why DM won't do 3 years on Edwin Jackson?? He's younger than Dempster, and he's a better fit for the staff, IMO. I think, if Dempster wants to be in Milwaukee, the compromise will be 2 years with an option.
  15. Anyone here that thinks the Brewers can trot out the rotation some people are listing and be competitive all season, well I have swampland in the desert to sell you. It may work for awhile next season, but they will absolutely not maintain it all year long. Just no way. Some of those Pitchers are not talented enough. Gallardo, Rogers and Peralta, would be 3 of my five, after that, I wouldn't trust any two of the other combinations to trot them out there all season. I'm glad Melvin is going to pursue Pitching. My biggest fear was that he would see what some of these younger guys did at the end of this year, and just be content and go with that. He realizes it's fools gold, especially in the cases of Estrada and Fiers(neither with overpowering stuff). Sign whoever you need to sign Doug, you have PLENTY of money, and the lineup is set.
  16. And eventually they'll be free agents and at best they get sandwich picks. Without good prospects but with Hart and A-Ram the Brewers may win around 82 games, but with a stocked farm system they'll have a young roster a few years from now and most of these guys will be around for years. Why have a chance of winning for 2 years when you get a chance to win for several years with a stocked farm system? Sure, some of the guys in the minors may not pan out, but what other choice do the Brewers have if they're trying to supply the major league roster with quality players? They're not the Yankees so they can't buy a Mark Teixiera or a CC Sabathia at will, and they certainly aren't gonna go anywhere if they continue to fill the roster with Suppans and Loopers and Izturises. Sure, they MAY have a shot at resigning Hart and A-Ram, but they have other players to worry about as well. They're gonna pay Braun until 2020, Yo is still very young and it would be very nice to have him around for a while, Weeks may have a down year this year but we've all seen what he's capable of, Lucroy's gonna be here for a while, and at the end of the day it may be a little too difficult financially to keep Hart and A-Ram long term. With prospects, in the short term things may be pretty difficult, but the long-term rewards may be tremendous. But isn't the idea to win EVERY year?? And to put yourself in the best position to do so?? At least at the start of the year?? I guess playing sports my whole life, I'm a competitor. Even as a fan. I HATE losing. Hate it. That's why I have never understood Bucks fans wanting to see them tank and get a higher draft pick, rather than get into the playoffs as the 8 seed. It's about winning games. Period. It should be for the Brewers right now too, even though they aren't playing for anything the rest of the year.
  17. Hart will be a free agent after the 2013 season. Ramirez is overpaid (or, will be very overpaid in '13 & '14) and that money could be better spent in other places. Trading both of them could bring back some very good players. It is extremely unlikely that the Brewers will trade Hart or Ramirez at this time Major league ready players, as good as those two already are currently?? Because if not, you aren't getting their proper value. And if you are getting players that aren't as good, you aren't going to win as much. No thanks. too many here it seems look at youth and "manageable contracts". Yet, it's not our $$$ so who really cares how Mark A spends HIS $$$?? I'd be far more inclined as a fan, to go to the ball park when the team has some "stars" and win ball games, then I would be to go and watch some youth "develop" and lose 90 games a year for a couple years. Why do you think attendance has been 3 million plus?? Because the team has been successful. Not as many wins= not as many fans, that's simple logic. And with not as many fans, comes not as much revenue. With not as much revenue, comes a lessor payroll, which means a lesser talented team. It's all relative. So to say shedding contracts means attracting better Free agents. Not necessarily, because if big $$$ guys see talent that is below par, and don't feel they will win in Milwaukee, they won't come. The higher your payroll, the better the talent(usually, unless your a complete idiot of an owner), the better players get paid more. The better players are more talented, the better players means more wins. Is it really that hard to grasp??
  18. I don't understand people wanting to trade Hart and Ramirez?? Do none of you care about winning the next couple of years?? or would you be happy losing close to 100 games?? Wow.
  19. So we were going to win the World Series with Prince and zero pitching? We had Prince and Braun together for years but it wasnt until we got pitching that we had a chance. But in our market we CANNOT afford Prince and a guy like Greinke. I am not a proponent of completely gutting our team as some are, but Fielder and Braun without pitching wasnt going to win us anything. We down have the farm system to make another Greinke trade. Only to lose that player in FA in another year or two after acquiring him. I LOVED the Greinke trade, and if the Brewers consistently do things like that on a yearly basis, I could live with it. But I betcha they won't.
  20. Without a farm system, you don't get star players without breaking the bank. For a team like the Brewers to compete, they need to make good decisions. Trading for Greinke was a good decision, as it helped them make the playoffs. Trading Grienke away for 3 of the Angels' top 10 prospects is also a good decision, since Zach's final 10 starts in 2012 were meaningless here in Milwaukee. The Brewers weren't going to the postseason with Greinke, despite how well he has pitched. It just wasn't coming together this year. The Brewers are building up a core of players in AA that they feel will give them a chance to win in the future. The last time they had this many quality prospects at that level, they turned into Fielder, Weeks, Hart, etc. -- much of the core of the current roster. I'm sure we'll all miss Zach (and hope that the Brewers try to bring him back next in free agency). This move puts the team in a better position to be competitive in the future than where they would have been if Greinke had pitched out the string and signed somewhere else, giving the team a single draft pick in return. It's about looking to the future. The key words in that bolded sentence are FEEL(or may) and future. Why look towards the future?? Why can't you win now and next year and the year after and the year after?? My whole point is....they should have NEVER been in a position to trade Zach to begin with, their record this season notwithstanding. He should have been signed to an extension last year already. The sooner you do it, and history shows this in ALL pro sports, the cheaper you get them. Look at Braun. The Brewers waited too long to try to resign Prince, and they waited too long to try to resign Zach.
  21. You realize many players want to hit FA so they can get the largest contract possible. Prince was NEVER going to sign long-term here unless we offered him something larger than he even ended up getting - which would have been terrible for us. Would you have felt that way if they would have won a world series with Prince in the next 5 years or so??
  22. I cannot understand this logic. Zack is a free agent at the end of the year. Right, and that's EXACTLY my point. He didn't have to be. Just like Prince didn't have to be. Too often it seems, the Brewers wait entirely too long to try to re sign some of these guys, and then it makes it nearly impossible. If you have the "win now" mentality like Mark A does, then you do what you have to do to make sure that occurs consistently. Was it realistic to keep both Prince AND Greinke?? No...but absolutely NO REASON one of them shouldn't have been kept. That's not a "win now" mentality. That's small time mentality.
  23. This is depressing. Great! I'm overjoyed, the Brewers got players to help their minor league system. Whoopie!! The Brewers have lost enough as a franchise the last 20 years, after a few years of success, now we have to go back to losing for at least a couple of years again?? Great. When you trade a player like Greinke, or lose a player like Prince in FA, you are losing star players. Star players help you win, they drive attendance, they drive merchandise sales etc etc. It's all relative. Fans want a winner. That's what makes them come out to the ball park. Without star players, it makes it very hard to win consistently. Fans don't show up, eventually payroll drops, and your back in the same vicious cycle, you have been for so many years. It sucks being a Brewer fan tonight, and I don't think it's going to be a whole lot of fun the next couple years at least either. *sigh*
