  1. That was probably it, that Macha was afraid he'd be stuck with Stetter facing a right hander.
  2. Neither is Coffey. After a quick look at their stats, it appears that DiFelice has better numbers against lefties than Coffey does.
  3. Please include me in your drawing, thanks.
  4. I happened to run across this a while ago: http://sports.espn.go.com/travel/news/story?id=3446513
  5. and then even if you do have a bad hitting pitcher, it might make more sense to pinch hit and still not bunt. I've had no problem with most of Macha's bunting/not bunting decisions. He mostly only has pitchers bunt and I think in those cases there is the added factor that you don't have your pitcher getting tired out running the bases if they bunt. I'm not positive but I think the only time he has had a non-pitcher bunt it has been a situation where the winning run would be moved up by a succesful bunt.
  6. I thought he was safe at first, but the full speed replays are not a lot of help...why do they do that?
  7. It's great that Hall is willing to do it, but I don't know that he is the best defensive option in the outfield.
  8. MLB's gameday charges a fee for that now, so it is probably related to that.
  9. Yeah, it is really ridiculous...they are not gonna steal (or should not be), so just wait until the ball leaves the pitchers hand before extending the lead off. Is that really so difficult to do?
  10. In addition, according to what the announcers said another time, the pitcher does have the option to pull the bat back and try to slap one by the infielders, if they are overplaying the bunt. Fielder!
  11. No actually I am not a bunting fan. But I find it rather odd to question having a pitcher bunt.
  12. Suppan is a bad hitter but a good bunter and it was successful, what's the problem?
  13. His reasoning doesn't matter. Pitcher vs hitter matchups are an extremely small sample with almost no predictive ability... Yes, all that statistical analysis certainly has it's place. But Bill Hall, like other baseball players, is also a human being, sometimes human beings are actually affected by their own emotions, feelings, etc. If Bill Hall had lost confidence in his ability to hit RH pitching, that belief, itself, could adversely affect his performance against RH pitching. On the other hand, if he believed that he could hit well against certain RH pitchers, that confidence could, potentially, have helped his performance. This was the impression I had gotten from some of Macha's comments...that he was trying to put Hall in situations where he (Hall) might have more confidence in himself.
  14. Ah, so it seems in Ankiel's mind "playing the game the right way" means serving up fastballs on every pitch when you have a big lead.
  15. I had gotten the impression that his doing this with Hall was more about trying to give Hall some confidence by playing him when the opposing pitcher was someone he had had some sucess against in the past. But maybe I was just hoping that this was his thinking.
  16. I'm thinking with an extra day before his next start Gallardo will get a shot at a complete game shutout.
  17. I agree, he seems like a good guy. I certainly don't hate him. It is just disappointing and frustrating to see him stink at the plate. It'd be great if he were to perform like he did a few years ago, resulting in Gamel going back down after June 21 (last game with a DH). I don't think it's gonna happen, though.
  18. Ah, and also in the case where you did not split they don't see (unless they track things into the next hand) what might have happened had you split. So you would not get blamed in the case where not splitting resulted in a worse outcome than splitting would have. I don't know how good that analogy is, but I can see where the fans would complain that the manager used the closer in the 7th, so now he is not available in the 9th and then they end up losing the game in the 9th. The fans don't see that had he not used the closer in the 7th, they might have lost the game then...they assume, probably without realizing it, that what happened in the 7th with the closer in would have happened anyway.
  19. I've never played Blackjack with anything but friends and family. Why in the worl would any other player care if I split a pair of kings? And why would it matter what seat I am in? Each player is only playing against the dealer and the dealer has no choice about taking additional cards or not. Do people think it somehow magically affects the odds if the dealer gets the next card out of the deck vs. getting a later card. Is this like how BA can magically end a no-hitter by mentioning it in the booth. BTW, his magic is very powerful, he even did this to Boston the other day from the booth in FL. The words "no-hitter" came out of his mouth, I immediatly flipped the TV to ESPN to check it out and somebody was getting a hit.
  20. Macha is now talking about McGehee getting some time at 3b. Maybe this will mean that he will talk to Hall and tell him he is willing to give him a shot at 2b, where his defense has a better chance of making up for his lack of offense?
  21. Wrong! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. Uh...BA, I don't think there would have been a DP had Looper made the play.
