  1. It mostly seems like they always want a female for the on field interviews. I just figured this was sort of an insurance strategy...players are pretty unlikely to blow off Erin Anderson if she wants to talk to them.
  2. I think the biggest problem is for the pitcher, they would be at much bigger risk of injury when the mound turns into mud. I do think the official game rules are goofy though. 5 innings stopped by rain is a game, but back when there were no lights (Wrigley) games that were stopped due to darkness had to be completed no matter how many innings had already been played. If they play only 4 before it rains, then those innings are just wiped out and they start over with a new game. If there is a tie game stopped due to rain after 5 innings, I think they have to finish it another time. It would seem fairer to wipe out the tie, since it was tied anyway no one would lose out. If one team is up 10-0 after 4 innings it seems pretty unfair to erase that because it rains.
  3. I will be curious to see how Brewers management handles this. Since it's been 26 years since we've been in the Postseason, I'm guessing they will ride him out and make a gamble, but it could be a costly one. Not making the playoffs would be costly as well. So saving Parra for next year and gambling on making the playoffs without him making his starts would be a gamble too.

  7. One of the Cubs (don't recall who) did that on Tuesday night too, started a home run trot on a ball off the wall. They apparently have not realized that this is not Wrigley Field.
  8. Uecker would probably be better on TV than radio, since you could still follow the game via the video. Going back to the original issue, BA is now even jinxing other teams potential no-hitter's. He mentioned one going into the ninth in Boston and naturally it was broken up with one out. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif (fixed code --1992)
  9. since this particular criticism was Yost should have went to McClung. I think that is mostly because that was the guy he had warming up. Also he is the guy in the silly starting platoon...so should be ready to go 3, 4, 5 innings. it shows how wrong people were to think McClung was going to get out of the fifth with less damage done No, that is an unknown. Also note that after the home run, Yost still left Suppan in and the next batter nearly hit another one. Is McClung the new Turnbow who can't be trusted to come in in anything other than perfect scenarios? That is unfair, given that the suggestion was to bring him in in the 5th in a far from ideal situation. McClung kinda even to me looked like he was kinda thinking "so why am I warming up..." at one point. Okay, well I don't know what he was thinking, but I would not be surprised if he had that thought. Judging strictly from that one post you are getting annoyed with me Jeffyscott Not really. I'm really not even all that annoyed with Yost. To me there have not been all that many really bad decisions, but I think this was one as is the pitching platoon.
  10. I don't see why it is a problem to watch the ball while you run, just like any other ball that the batter puts in play. I like when players on other teams go into a home run trot and then it turns out to not make it out and they get a single off the wall.
  11. No, not really...well, okay, to rest the starters from time to time and in case of injury.
  12. Yes, the timing is odd. Since the All-Star break his OBP is .400+, last season his pre all-star obp was .328 and post all-star was (a team leading) .422. I don't think Yost will overreact to one bad inning or to the opinions of the guy who reported he was fired.
  13. Yeah, I've been to a few too and no problems at all. I've been to a few Brewer games at Wrigley (and one Sox game also) and no problems there either. I find it kind of fun having a significant number of fans from both teams in the park, actually. I have not been to one of these games in a while, due to the diffuculty of getting good honest tickets at a tasty price.
  14. Hope they win 50% of those games and take 2/3 when the top 3 starters are out there. That should be the formula for success, over a full season that'd translate to 97 wins. Even 2/3 for #1 and #2 and 50% for 3-5 would mean about 92 wins. Pick one and move on. The manager's job is to make tough decisions like this.
  15. When I read this post, I thought it was about a brand of beer and cheering for the Cubs http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  16. So does any criticism of any move Yost makes or doesn't make in a game equal blaming Ned and only Ned for a loss? Should the criticisms be restricted only to things that he does in games that the Brewers win? Does every criticism of Yost need to be preceded with "of course, the players are primarily to blame, but..."? What is the point of after-the-fact arguments defending Yost such as: It should also be noted McClung didn't exactly shut down the Astros when he did come in. Did you and Yost know in advance that McClung was not going to pitch well? Who knows, maybe he'd have pitched better if he had come in as soon as he was ready, instead of having him diddle around for two innings.
  17. Plus, doesn't it leave us a bullpen arm short on certain days? You know that's the game that's going to go 15 innings. I think at some time either Bush or McClung could be the last guy to come in to a game like that. Depending on the timing of it, that could maybe even cause the end of this. If a game like that were to occur, say, two days after Bush's next start, maybe McClung would have to come in and Bush would get the next start, even though it is a road game.
  18. McClung could potentially have pitched most or all of the rest of that game, since he has been starting. CC and Sheets are pitching the next two games, so it is extremely unlikely that a middle/long reliever will be needed prior to Wednesday. There was no need to leave Suppan out there to give up 7 runs. Among Suppan, Bush, Mclung (not to mention Villanueva) it's a toss-up to me as to which two should be starting. Suppan will get his starts the rest of the way based on his past late season and playoff history.
  19. That was the most baffling thing McClung was warmed up and ready to go, what exactly would have needed to happen for Yost to bring him in?
  20. Even if this happens the Brewers are still only 3 games out and probably still control the wild card, quite an improved position from where they were just a couple weeks ago. Their season record agains the Cubs will be 5-5.This hardly makes them pretenders. If the Cubs lose 3, they will leave town in second place and have season record of 3-7 against the Brewers. Also note that at the time Brenly made his idiotic comment it was possible that the Cubs would be coming to town in second place.
  21. Did anyone else catch Brenly's ridiculous comment that the series in Milwaukee will obviously be more important to the Brewers? I guess he figures a 1 game lead (that may disappear by Monday, anyway) is so commanding that the Cubs have no worrieshttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif.
  22. jhart - thanks for passing on the inside information...interesting to read. Sounds like it is pretty much a certainty that Ryan Braun gets HBP on Aug. 26.
  23. I've actually never heard anyone speak like that and I moved here in 1985 (from the Chicago area). The borrowed thing is, I think, pretty universal but can't say that I've heard it from many "intelligent, articulate people". Maybe it's just all about the the people you happen to associate with http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif. Really (other than the pronunciation of certain words, such as "boat", by some people) the only thing I can think of that I noticed being different here is the term "bubbler" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif. Oh wait, there is also "grill out" and "bakery" (as in "I'm going to buy some bakery").
  24. It'd be really interesting to know how extreme my baseball viewing is. Obviously, I know that the vast majority of people are not watching nearly every inning of (probably) 85% of the games, like me...but how many do watch that much or more. I'd estimate I spend probably 350 hours per year watching the Brewers, then add in a handful of other games of interest that I watch during a season and then playoffs and I'm sure it's over 400 and maybe up around 450 hours total. I just wonder how small the percentage of people that watch that much or more is. I really can't expect B&B to fill 350 hours per year with interesting commentary. I did find Matt V and Sutton to be more entertaining, though. During the free MLB extra innings thing, I got a chance to catch a bit of each of them. The highlight was Matt V said something like: ...I'd rather have that line up than what we have out there...oh, did I say that out loud...I fogot my filter. I had wondered if Matt was still Matt, because he plays it so straight in his network gigs.
  25. If you really believe that an announcer in the booth has any impact on what happens on the field, then you deserve to be ridiculed (or "bashed") and I'm no fan of B&B, but have had no problem with their calls in regard to potential no-hitters. I also have no problem with those announcers who inform you that it is a no-hitter while jokingly pretending that they are superstitiously not really mentioning it.
