  1. In 2007 the top 4 teams in HRs were all in the NL and 3 of the bottom 4 were in the AL. Does the player's "union" get to have any say over the rules of the game? The DH is an abomination and should be done away. I wonder how the non-pitcher bench players in the AL feel about the DH. Doesn't the union represent them too? What kind of union only worries about getting even more for the already wealthy?
  2. So should they keep Yost and fire Hall, Hardy, Weeks, Cameron, Fielder, Villy, Gagne and Bush?
  3. I did, you "said": how would Attanasio know that a candidate would be better in those areas? I responded to that odd statement.
  4. So why not solve the imbalance by doing away with the DH?
  5. I didn't say you said that. I came to a logical conclusion, based on your implication that it is not possible for Mark A to know who would be a better candidate for the job.
  6. Wow! So he can never fire Melvin because how would he ever know who might be better.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif
  7. Which will demonstrate just how idiotic it was not to do it before playing Boston.
  8. I think maybe by Tuesday the 26th, assuming they continue to lose on this road trip. I really think it will take at least being swept by Pittsburgh or going 3-4 on the rest of the trip for him to be fired.
  9. Just get rid of the DH entirely.
  10. Exactly, they are both making a choice. Braun, sensibly to risk averse me, has chosen the certainty of $45 million over the uncertainty of $80 million (or whatever) a few years down the road. Prince is choosing to take a risk for potentially larger rewards down the road.
  11. Fielder did get $2.4 million as a signing bonus in 2002, more than many people earn in a lifetime and enough to live pretty comfortably for few years while he waits for free agency...or is he a dope like his father, who pissed away all his money?
  12. Well, except for the abomination of the DH it's okay. I didn't like it when they played the western division teams, simply because it meant more really late games. I think they should drop this silly idea that interleague play must occur at only certain times. This is one thing that prevents having 15 teams in each league and 5 teams in each division. It is kind of bizarre and unfair that the Brewers have to compete in a division of 6 and a league of 16, while others get a division of 4 and a league of 14. The abomination that is the DH is another factor that prevented a full realignment of leagues and divisions. Assuming all have equal odds the Brewers have a 1/6 chance of winning the division and a 1/13 chance at wild card...so that is a 24% chance at post season. An AL west team has 1/4 shot at division and 1/11 at wild card, so that is a 34% chance...a 40% better chance than the Brewer's have.
  13. Those are two different questions. With the Brewers awful history of dismal results on the road, I will only be happy if they win more than they lose...so 6-4, barring rain-outs. But for the same reason (their history of dismal results on the road) I expect dismal results...probably 3-7. So if they are 4-6 or 5-5, they will have done better than I expect, but it will not make me happy.
  14. So Ned Yost is Kendall's dad...who knew? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. So the subject here should have been West Bush League? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. Better that than to stop hitting because he knows he is set for life no matter what happens.
  17. after watching closely 3-5 days, the doctor will have you begin movement excercises of your elbow. Usually recovery occurs without any lasting effects. I doubt that "movement excercises" would include throwing a major league fastball and that quote says nothing about the total recovery time and especially about recovery time for a major league pitcher to resume his normal activities.
  18. Regardless of whether or not one thinks Yost is not the right guy for the job, the argument presented in the article, which is: Some stupid people want Yost fired, therefore Yost should not be fired is a poor one. Similarly, while the writer has stupid opinions as to why Yost should be kept, that does not necessarily mean that Yost should be fired. Stupid opinion #1: Many of the areas in a baseball game when the manager has to make decisions come only when the team is hitting and putting runners on base. With the lousy hitting the Brewers displayed last week, Yost wasn't even faced with those decisions. Stupid opinion #2: You can talk about setting the emotional tone for a team and making sure players are ready, eager and willing to play. A big deal in football, a slightly smaller deal in basketball and not so much of a deal in baseball.
  19. This makes me think that the mysterious waiver rules would have meant anyone claiming him would have to pay his salary. Surely someone would have taken a chance on him if they were only on the hood for $400K, wouldn't they?
  20. Are we looking at another season long slump on the road? The horrible road trip has me concerned that this team is once again going to fall apart every time they play anywhere but Miller Park. Yes, this year's excuse is going to be the loss of a guy with all of 23 games of major league experience. Next year's will be that we no longer have Ben Sheets,... Oh, and don't forget the Brewers were in a World Series in 1982. Meanwhile the Florida Marlins have somehow managed to win 2 championships in their short 15 years of existence. The Twins have made 7 post season appearances in the last 40 years and 4 of those are even in this millenium.
  21. Yes, that is exactly the point I meant to make in my indirect way. If the people running the team keep telling us that the talent is there and yet the results don't show it, then either something needs to be done about it. Otherwise what are they going to do, say "we lied, we don't really have that much talent"? (sources outside the team would indicate that is not the really case, but would we not have to assume that the team's owner and GM believe this, if they don't change anything, despite the mediocrity). BTW, I don't think you need to keep putting loaded with talent in quotes like that, it seems pretty condescending when written repeatedly that way. IMO. Sorry if the quotation marks made it seem that way and now I sure can see how it would. I did not really intend that the quotes meant I was using the phrase an ironic sense, I really meant it as just a quote of the sort of thing we keep hearing from the team and other sources.
  22. Let me put it this way, since that hot start of 34 games, the results have been mediocre at best. They are 65-87 since then, is this the sort of results that should be expected from a team that is "loaded with talent"?
  23. Since the 1970 season, a manager has been replace mid-season 168 times. 12 of those teams made the playoffs. In the wild card era (1995 on), 39 managers have been replaced mid-season. 3 of those teams made the playoffs (one of those being Tommy Lasorda's last season with the Dodgers). Yes the 2003 Marlins won the World Series after making a mid-season managerial switch, but, again, that's the exception, not the rule. 12 out of 168 is 7%, 3 of 39 is about 7.6%. Brewers have made the post season once in, what, 37 years...that's 2.7%. So it looks like they about triple their odds with a manager change http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif.
  24. I believe this team is loaded with talent This is what I keep hearing, but where is the evidence? Other than the brief period of 34 games at the start of last season the results have been mediocre. Why is that if the team is loaded with talent? My kids are "loaded with talent", of another sort, that would lead you to believe they would have excellent academic records. Yet all three of them have mediocre records. This could be because I am a poor parent or it could be because, through no fault of mine, they just don't care. Hmm, I think in either case, I am the one that should be fired, if different results are desired. If the team still stinks on May 31, something needs to change and the only reasonable thing I can think of to do would be to fire Yost...whether it is really his fault or not.
  25. But even if he were thinking that, would you want him stating those thoughts publicly?
