  1. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/indifferent.gif Those are unfortunate misspellings if indeed unintentional. Why? Just like the seed for birds, Nyjer is often misspelled Nyger, both spellings would be pronounced the same...I'm not even sure if Nyger, in reference to the bird seed, is a misspelling or just an alternate spelling. The Nyjer spelling for the bird seed was, I believe, only invented out of the fear that people are to dumb to understand that it is a long "i" and a soft "g" in Niger, you know like the country in Africa, Niger, which is pronounced exactly like Morgan's first name.
  2. The pitching decisions seem odd. This guy was going on 3 days rest in place of Carpenter. And hasn't the Cardinals bullpen been unreliable?
  3. Yes, like the 2008 Brewers going 10-16 in Sept. 2008. The worry would be if the Brewers lose that many this Sept, going 9-16, the Cardinals have to go 18-8 to tie. That seems far to possible for comfort.
  4. Depending on where in Iowa, I wonder if you'd be better off heading south and west on surface streets, skipping I-94 and getting to I-43?
  5. That it sometimes takes 45 minutes just to get out of the lot is one of the reasons we just park for free and walk about 20 minutes. We have also done the shuttle thing a couple times, when we thought we might get caught in a thunderstorm. We are not tailgators, so the parking lots hold no attraction. We also don't take the freeway. We are about 20 miles away and by taking surface streets it is a reliable 40-45 minute drive each way with no traffic or parking lot hassles.
  6. Seems like the complaints are more about who is on the roster, rather than the possible make-up of the post-season roster (in terms of number of pitchers and number of position players)? They could have 10, 11, or 12 pitchers in the post season as things stand now, that covers the entire range of possibilities. I think you have to start from the assumption that, barring injury, no one on the post-season roster was going to be named Gamel. While people here may disagree, it appears that decision had already been made by the Brewers.
  7. Does "nearly everyone" include Melvin and RR? If I understand correctly, as things stand now, the Brewers could choose 25 players for post season from a group of 27. The 27 includes the 12 pitchers and 15 position players Weeks, Gomez plus the current roster, this gives them the flexibility to go with 11 or 12 pitchers in the NLDS and, as you indicated, if they go with 11 they would be able to make a change to the 11 for the NLCS or WS. If they go to 11 pitchers, what is the benefit? They are surely not going to go with fewer that 10 pitchers in the post-season, so what advantage is there to adding an additional position player to the post-season eligible list?
  8. This year we are also likely to know that there will even be a game 1 much earlier than in 2008. There may be about 2 weeks available for selling tickets to both game 1 and game 2. I would guess that many season ticket holders will go to one game and sell the other...and I'd guess more are likely to choose to go Saturday and sell Sunday. Another factor making Sunday cheaper might be school the next day, the time of the game will not be known (until the season ends?), so it could be a Sunday night game. One more thing is that there will be more thoughts of making it to the NLCS this time, so that could hold back prices for the NLDS.
  9. I'd assume prices will be all over the map, just like they were in 2008. I think I paid $180 for 3 tickets in row 6 of section 322, might have been $200, but I don't think so. I do know I did not pay too much over face value and face was $55. This was for the second home game. Since it's our favorite level, I'd be interested to know what the face value for club level is this year for NLDS, NLCS, and WS?
  10. What channel is WGN HD on TWC in Milwaukee. i can't find it. Thanks LD is 9, but it looks almost like HD after watching WMLW
  11. Well, presumably they will at least have Narveson in the pen for playoffs. Little things matter, but the biggest thing that matters in the playoffs is, I think, starting pitching and that aspect is looking really good for the brewers.
  12. I have never eaten there, but several years ago I called about doing so before a game and was told you would have to vacate the table by no later than 1 hour before game time. I don't know if that is still the policy.
  13. Yes, it's time to give up on the season. They are in first place but have lost Weeks for, perhaps, as little as two weeks, so there is no possible way they can win this tough NL Central over powerhouses like the Pittsburgh Pirates. Clearly it will now be a race between those Pirates and the Cardinals and the Brewers will be struggling to stay ahead of the Cubs.
  14. Yes, it seems odd to me that folks would assume that they were going to call up a guy who has mostly played 3rd base to replace Weeks. I assume the guy plays 3rd because his defense is not that great, our infield defense is bad enough with McGehee, Betancourt, and Fielder. Also Farris has played some SS, while Green has not, so he gives them more infield flexibility. I think the Taylor Green angst is just the usual BF.net bias toward whatever minor league player is doing well right now. A few years ago it was the end of the world when they gave up LaPorta, but he seems to have not amounted to much. Also from Haudricourt blog: "Melvin said the Brewers wouldn't know the severity of Weeks' injury until MRI results come back today" They don't really know if this is going to be 15 days or the rest of the season at this point. So right now, it could be just a short term move. Folks here assumed that whoever they called up would be the starting second baseman, but I think it is more likely that the Brewers looked at it as who they could call up to fill in on the bench and possibly that only for a short time.
  15. Actually, they could even show that view, then cut to the normal CF view as the pitch is delivered. Better directing could avoid missing so much, they have a lot of cameras and could show runners leading off and fielders positioning (particularly when there is a significant shift) by just cutting from one camera to another. I don't know if the Brewers director is lazy, bad, or just typical, but it does seem like he makes very little effort to show anything other than pitcher, batter, catcher until after the ball is hit. I don't pay enough attention to know if the Brewers broadcasts are unusually static, meaning not often cutting from one camera to another to show everything that is going on on the field (instead of cutting to show crowd shots).
  16. I think those shots are at too high an angle, don't like them. With the broadcast in wide screen format, why can't they shift the CF view a bit to the left and get 1st base in the picture, when there is a runner on? I agree with the top 3 here, which are all the lower angle view but as close to straight on as possible without having the pitcher get in the way of the pitch. http://www.fangraphs.com/...nter-field-camera-shots/ http://www.fangraphs.com/not/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/ATL.png
  17. Flip down sunglasses are just not cool, better to give up a "hit" like that, I guess
  18. Not really a fan of sending a pitcher there. Kind of awkward slide, glad he didn't hurt himself.
  19. Would McGehee have made the play at 3rd? As for Gamel not having played 3rd in a year or so, what does that have to do with getting a glove on a ground ball?
  20. Yeah, I never understood why they did not design it so that some of those 1st and 3rd base windows could be opened, like the outfield panels. Would it really have cost that much to have had some sliding glass panels or something? That would have allowed for the possibility of some natural cross ventilation under most conditions. Having those open would help with roof open too, make it more like an open air ball park. They also could have had windows that open in the lower levels, the windows in the brick part of the park. I believe that would open the field and loge concourses to outside air which could then flow into the seating bowl.
  21. He should skip the All-Star game and rest it for 3 days, whether or not he plays this week. If he doesn't skip it, he should play left field with about as much energy as Carlos Lee usually puts into it and then be done after one plate appearance.
  22. We mostly avoid going when it's hot especially if there may be rain, even with the roof closed the Miller Park is so closed in that you don't get much breeze in many places. Also we usually sit on the club level, so at least you can cool off a bit on trips to the bathroom or to get a beer. I always feel like they are looking for reasons to close the roof, rather than reasons to open it. (The exception being the game mentioned above, which I saw on TV and was amazed at how long they kept it partly open)
  23. I figured this was going to be about the All-Star game...which we are not going to, although we will be flying to PHX on Saturday. We'll be at the Monday and Tuesday games, ending a trip to see 3 national parks and about 5 national monuments in AZ and UT with a couple games in Phoenix.
