  1. I'd be up for getting extra cute, just to really mess with LaRussa. Announce Narveson as your Game 4 starter. Let him pitch to one batter than put Marcum in. LaRussa being his genius self will have gone whole hog on the platoons. He's then stuck at a big platoon disadvantage or faced with burning his bench very quickly. Plus we still have Estrada if we need a long guy for the game.
  2. T-Plush making the belt gesture would probably cause all of Classy Nation to have a collective coronary, which is more than enough justification.
  3. He gets plenty of love in the Tiwn Cities, so that may be enough for him.
  4. It would be fun for Braun to get a chance to bat and see if he can get a triple. Yeah I'm greedy.
  5. A more fun question was how many runs would the Brewers have had to score in the bottom of the 8th to see someone besides Ax in the 9th?
  6. Now that Yo's at 106 and has given up a run I lean towards going with Ax, he has been really good. However the three fairly deep flies to CF in the last two innings hints he might be towards the end. Definitely if he comes up this half an inning.
  7. Gibson wanted to time the HR trot and see if he was faster in the post season than Prince, that's why he pitched to him.
  8. If ever there was a weekend to not leave the TV.
  9. The evidence presented that Gamel has an attitude 'problem' is incredibly thin. Zambrano has an attitude problem. Ozzie Guillen has an attitude problem. Gamel has made a couple of modest mistakes that are actually documented, instead of repeated innuendo. If Gamel had an attitude problem we'd here some nice big fat quotes out of triple A, about how dissatisfied he is with the current arrangement. It behooves people to be a bit charitable in judging over the internet.
  10. It's worth noting to those trying to claim there is some sort of anti-manager fan issue at work, that Money never says completely positive things about a guy. Again that's bad people work. A couple of years ago the 'I just tell it like it is' schtick was novel and interesting now his on going constantly negative comments really paint a picture of a guy who has a major flaw in his own game.
  11. Money is lucky he could play baseball, because he is a terrible manager of people. I'm a big believer in the school of honesty approach, but you have to balance that out in part. All Money can do is rag on guys. You got to be able to have the guys stick with you see they actually here it when you tell them the harsh reality.
  12. I haven't seen anybody write on it recently, but the general trend was that batters gain about 20 points of batting average with a runner on first. Presumably do to suboptimal fielding position. I don't know what effect it has on SLG or OBP, but the batting average affect is real, such as it is.
  13. Unless the Brewers do something crazy and not add Manzanillo or Gindl I'm not too worried this year. The lefty Dans could be useful guys, but trying to sort out which soft tossing lefty will be a big league asset and who isn't is too hard to predict.
  14. It's perhaps more instructive to look at the destruction of Cal Eldred as one of the key data points in the early 90's that started to change some old school attitudes on pitcher usage. Looking at those numbers almost 20 years later they seem pretty crazy, but it wasn't back then.
  15. I think Green has done enough that he'll still get some playing time regardless of today, but it sure seems like an awful lot to ask to start your career off that hot to get yourself some decent playing time. On the plus side yeah for optimizing the resources on hand.
  16. If Green was even close to as good of a defender as Cirillo, I think I would have lost it. Batwise it seems like a decent comparison, but Cirillo was a very good 3rd basemen. Which always reminds me that as much Grief as we give Bando. This team was one obscure Australian disease (Nilsson), and some tough injury luck to Jaha from having a pretty good run in the late 90's. Alternatively figuring out a way to have an offseason like Melvin did and trade for two top of rotation guys would have done the trick too.
  17. Kevin Millar is jealous
  18. It's got to be pretty frustrating and disheartening to go in on the road pull off the sweep you so desperately need, and then by the end of the next series lost most of what you gained. Not getting swept is the obvious goal, but I'd just as soon sweep them and get that magic number down to a nice miniscule 7 with 18 games to play.
  19. Predicted RR logic: Can't start Green he's proven himself to be too valuable off the bench. Possibly more impressive a 4 game hit streak to start his career with 3 of them being pinch hit opportunities only.
  20. At this point the alternative is Counsell or Wilson, which if you can't have the platoon advantage isn't exactly great. If Rickie was back, Hairston's been playing well enough he could porabaly shoe horn in some more playing time at this point.
  21. That article practically screams extension. He's happy here, finding top notch starters is really hard compared to filling out the line-up with solid hitters.
  22. At my most optimistic I hope Green does enough with his limited opportunities to force RR's hand. He might be slow to change his mind (which is something of a virtue, you can't manage based on who has looked good in the last week), but he has let guys force their way into the line-up. I can imagine a scenario, where Green gets partially platooned for the remainder. Not even 50-50, but getting consistent pinch hitting opportunities and some starts against righties.
  23. I'd like to see them kick the tires on Peralta out of the pen for the month. He's got the stuff that he could be that extra little weapon that develops quickly enough to be trusted towards the end of the bullpen for the playoffs.
  24. Lemurs used to work wonders. Since I expected Roenicke to give Green garbage for playing time unless he hits like crazy, I can't be too upset. However, someone needs to explain to Roenicke that if you persist with the low pressure ABs only it is completely self defeating. He had a chance to break him in under less than pressure packed circumstances on Sunday...
  25. I don't think anyone has thought Hairston has been on fire, but nearly .060 points of OBP advantage in this line-up is huge. His batting average also is a little higher than Yuni's as well, both point to him being able to drive in enough runs for the 6th or 7th spot, and increase the chances for other guys to bat. The biggest factor though in my mind has always been defense. Career numbers have the two players close in value with the bat, but Hairston's defense at SS has been consistently better by a healthy margin.
