  1. I can't remember did Jim Thorpe pitch at all? Maybe it was eaier to dominate back then, but to be that good at that many sports?
  2. It's worth noting that Rogers only got 38 innings in this year, so if he signs in a timely fashion he'd have no reason not to get some serious pitching in this year.
  3. David such positivty from you on draft day is, is well different http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  4. Yeah I've got the radio working now though the volume comes and goes a bit.
  5. Is there anyway to buy some sort of temporary extra server time? I have no idea about the draft order BA is creaky, the online radio thing was locking up before the draft even started.......
  6. Defintely nice to see that Stars line score as all ofthe names seemed to show some life. Prince was just saving up the bombs for the D-Day anniversary.
  7. Yeah I think we see Hart definitely in September, probably before. I would hope that it holds off until Grieve has been dealt since I don't see him being terribly useful to the team sitting on the bench, and it wouldn't help his trade value as a bat for a team in need of one. That's generally not a reason to not promote a guy, but Corey hasn't been so hot that he's forcing the issue, so no reason not to try and flip Ben for something else.
  8. Well Capuano went on the DL, so I'd think at minimum they'd have to get Ben one more start. And lest we get hasty, we have Davis and Sheets as good examples of patience with pitchers.
  9. Well just doing a quick look at Heether. So far this year his K's are up slightly and his walks are down slightly (could easily be random changes), but he's making a much higher quality of contact with much more power and a large boost in batting average. For the Midwest league the line looks solid, and while techinically a "repeater" he hasn't come close to a full season's worth of ABs at that level. Drafted out of college it's certainly possible that last year's ~180ABs were his adjustment period. Still he's 22 in A ball with a stat profile not unlike dozens of others in the Wes Helms mode. I'm guessing he gets a full year at Beloit. Clearly our top 3rd base prospect. 4 years ago he'd be rocketing up the Power 50 and possibly cracking the top 20. No he has to fight to get into the 40's.
  10. Well I for one will look at this game as the beginning of a Jenkins hot streak until prooven otherwise! And if Spivey and Overbay just start to hit somewhat again the offense will be clicking right along. The last few weeks we've basically had a couple of guys doing there usual thing combined with 3-4 who are ice cold at any one moment, with nobody hot. That's just not going to cut it for any team.
  11. Just as a note I think using both H/IP and K/IP is a bit misleading. The two figures are highly correlated so they tell you basically the samething. HR rate is also very important in predicting future success. At this point I'd have to say Saenz is no worse then the 4th best pitching prospect we have. Ben is ahead on performance, Jones on ceiling, then I'd say he and Manny are competitive and Ford can fit into this grouping too, but a bit behind.
  12. So at this point the in the season it certainly seems like strange reversals with the much pandered NL Central seeming like a very strong division and the NL West flopping rather badly, sure people expected a close race among flawed teams, but I don't think they expected a race were everyone was equally bad. And it's great to be 3 over .500 with no sweep suits needed!
  13. It certainly looks like Gwynn has found himself in AA. And he has managed the one HR so he's not exactly Jason Tyner. With Prince looking to be in the productive mood again the Stars look ready to score a whole lot of runs at the top of the order, And Ozzie can chip in a few from the bottom too!
  14. What about the travesty of roster management sending Hart down? How many pitcher we got in that bullpen now? When we were trotting out 2 black holes a couple of prayers and Sheets the extra pitchers were fine. But why not send down Wise or Adams (preferably Wise) and let Hart stay up atleast long enough for tommorrow's game when you can start him and Clark giving Jenkins the day off.
  15. Lou's power bat seems to be slowly warming up. He's already one of the top ten offensive player's in the league by EQA (Rottino is sitting just outside). Of course that niffty .420 OBP that features a lot of BA some HBP and more than ample walks helps alot, but his SLG is almost .450 which ain't bad for the Midwest League. Anybody else think Jason Kendall without the SBs is a good comp for Cap'n Lou?
  16. I say Vinny to AA! Hopefully Gemoll can get it going with his chance at Indy. Given the chance I think he could be a very nice 4th OF with the ability to be a defensive replacement at 1st on some occaisions
  17. If Ozzie keeps going he just might become the BF poster child for not becoming overly infatuated with A ball stats. I mean we can't keep talking about Bobby Darhula forever can we?
  18. OK somethings we learned yesterday. 1) nothing like a rain delay for an afternoon game to drive the BFnet community crazy. 2) Melvin with the astute call on going for the bullpen game today. Nice to see a little outside the box thinking. And with the pen already pretty rested and Sheets going tomorrow it's a much better bet then the other way. 3) Never doubt Podzilla! 4) Bill Hall is Jose Hernandez
  19. The only sad thing is that a "solid game" by Wes against this team (you know the 6 inning 3 run type) may prolong his starting. Against taht line-up Sheets throws a shutout and a good pitcher gives up no more than 2 runs.
  20. I think some of it was timing, Brad started out slow and slowly improved before taking it up a notch about halfway through Prince's streak. Since Prince has cooled off he's continued to plug along. His BB/K line could improve some, but that's nitpicking, and between our 4 firstbasemen do we have lot's of extra base power.
  21. Clearly that was a misstep to blame on the Taylor regime.
  22. Niceto se those Line scores for Gwynn and Moss. As vocal a critic as I was yesterday of Gwynn I will point out that after a bad start he has been getting on base much mroe recently, and I can't imagine that if that trend continues Huntsville won't start to score more runs. And of course seeing Moss get on track would be great.
  23. So as we try to figure out the enigma that is the Stars (&Scrubs?) some food for thought. Nelson and Fielder now have essentially the same OPS just above .900 which is excellent in the Southern League. Prince has shown more OBP through more walks and less Ks, but Nelson has more extra base hits. We know that the pitching has generally been quite good despite not the best defense. I submit that the answer lies at the feet of Anthony Gwynn and his stellar top of the order .292 OBP. With the way Weeks, Prince and Brad are hitting runs should be flying onto the scoreboard. It's not fair to lay fault solely on him their are only 2 other Stars with OBP's above .300 Alvarado and Belcher. But between them they don't even have 100 ABs. This isn't quite as bad as the Giants with Bonds and noone else, but it's close. Perhaps the line-up needs to be dramatically redone? 1) Weeks 2) Belcher 3) Prince 4) Nelson 5) Johsnon (still good power numbers)/ Alvarado 6)+ whoever probably Gwynn in this spot though. That line-up maximizes your chances pretty well at getting big innings before you cycle through to the outs at the bottom.
  24. I'll vote for a trick question without looking. They both said it!
  25. It certainly seems like Gwynn is making adjustments to AA. I don't know what his final stat line will look like, but atleast he isn't flaming out already. Anybody else excited by the notion of having three guys who can steal bases (Weeks, Pods, and Hart) starting with probably 2 more good ones on the bench? Not exactly Whitey ball, but entertaining nonetheless.
