  1. Agreed too early, many of those guys certainly are not locks on playoff rosters though.
  2. I doubt he has a spot start against the Cubs now that he just pitched. Was in line to start today but obviously not in the plans.
  3. Thus far, but since not everybody gets tested because of vaccinations you never really know who has it or is carrying it on the team right now. Unless they actually test everybody on the team it could stick around for a while.
  4. Being vaccinated doesn't necessarily mean you are immune. There is a greater chance you won't feel the effects or they will be mild. None of the vaccines are 100% effective. I get "not 100% effective" but this isn't just a random outlier. This is a lot of players testing positive. Were these guys actually vaccinated or was that just a fake thing reported to the media? Or are the vaccines really this bad? Well not all players want to disclose if they are vaccinated or not, at least 85% of the team has been at one point. However, they were pushing the J&J vaccine which isn't as effective as the others.
  5. Players can still be optioned up and down if they have any left or DFA.
  6. Well the ideal lineup and what will be put out there are often times two different things.
  7. Jamie Westbrook of the Brewers has struggled a bit during the Olympics but had a big game today. He homered in the 4th and singled/scored in their 5 run 6th inning to help Team USA advance to the gold medal game.
  8. I see the Pirates also do the let's sit the guy that just had a great game routine with Polanco.
  9. It isn't a 2021 departure, but Marcos Diplan, who was traded to the Twins in 2019, was recalled by the Orioles and will make his major league debut. Somehow still only 24. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/08/orioles-select-marcos-diplan-dusten-knight.html
  10. One nice thing for Axford is this will get him over 9 years of MLB service time. If he can come back one more time can hit that prestigious 10 year mark.
  11. Lindblom has another nice start yesterday so I imagine he gets called up to start in the next week.
  12. Geez, if they are claiming Romano it is time to at least give Barker a chance to prove he does or doesn't have what it takes. It's been working pretty good with Sanchez.
  13. Guys with options are treated differently. Ashby isn't earning a major league salary right now after cup of coffee in the majors. Veterans are treated differently but can't so for sure regarding Axford but certainly getting major league pay now on the IL.
  14. This wasn't about options. Stearns felt Axford was the right person for the unique situation they are in. Really not a lot of right handed to choose from in the minors with Lindblom who has been good in the minors but not so good in the majors, Yardley who shouldn't really have a 40 man spot and Barker who they have never shown confidence in. Edit: Bettinger as well but he just started on the 30th.
  15. If nobody claimed him if would be a very poor decision to reject the outright assignment.
  16. It may very well end up costing them Axford's salary the rest of the year if the injury is serious but yes it was a fairly low risk move that doesn't appear will pay off. Stearns had not ties to Axford, he felt it was the best move during a time when the team was in dire need of some right handed pitching depth.
  17. They really need right handed pitching so he could very well see a high leverage situation with say two on and two out with a righty up.
  18. It looks like Sobotka and Weigel would be minor league free agents after the season but that could change if the Brewers add them back to the 40 man prior to becoming free agents.
  19. Since Axford is basically replacing Hader I wonder if the Brewers can just send Axford down to Nashville and remove him from the 40 man without a DFA a week or two from now.
  20. I would imagine that will be the move now with Axford about to take a spot.
  21. It does remind me of a type of move a bad Brewers team would make but Stearns has never really dealt with Axford so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
  22. Might as well give him a try with the pitchers on COVID, easy enough to remove if he doesn't have it. Will be there Tuesday and kind of hoping he pitches.
  23. Bag policy changing slightly starting with tonight's game. Clear single compartment bags 12x6x12 now allowed along with clear gallon zip-lock bags. However, I brought in zip lock bags a couple of times in June/July without issue. https://www.fox6now.com/news/american-family-field-bag-policy-update
  24. They will be free agents the same year. However Urias has a shot at being super 2 for the 2022 season while Grisham will not pending no changes to the bargaining agreement.
  25. Cooper Hummel hit for the cycle last night in his second game with Reno.
