  1. Morris had a monster year. We should be excited. That being said, I'm not moving the MLB roster around to make room for him just yet. He's not a Prince or a Braun or even a Weeks / Hardy that you start planning for years in advance. He needs to start off very hot in AAA or put up another all around solid year before we start factoring him into MLB roster decisions. on the point of the huge variations in scouting reports on Morris - I'm a very casual minor league fan, but it does always seem like there is a lot of variation in the reports from the major scouting companies for AA players. My guess is that some scouting organizations haven't actually received fresh reports and are still relying mostly on previous reports or regurgitated information from others that might not be up to date either. I assume that during his time in AAA there will be more reports on him as more teams and scouts are trying to figure out if he is legit after his big year.
  2. I've been starting to think that the answer is to start the season with some combo of the starting pitchers that we already have and beef up the bullpen via free agency. We've got enough options that we can keep a short leash on the pitchers who aren't performing right out of the gate. Should be easy to replace someone who is falling on their face with someone at least mediocre on short notice given the depth of #3 - 5 pitchers we have. If we're showing any glimpses of being a team that can compete we can look at trading prospects for a higher end arm.
  3. Thanks! I wasn't able to follow the farm as close this summer so having a summary like this is super helpful. The system is obviously no where near where it was back during the Prince, Braun, Weeks, Hardy, Hart, etc. days but there has been notable improvement in the last two years. Hopefully we can keep that trend going!
  4. Call me crazy, but I hope that a solid all around year from Weeks could make up for some regression in others.
  5. I grew up near the Illinois border at the White Sox rivelry was much more significant for us. Our church baseball game outing was always scheduled around a sox / crew matchup for this reason. I had / have lots of friends who are Sox fans and we always keep up a steady stream of cross-league smack talking. I can't think of anyone I know that would be described as a passionate Twins fan. I went to school in western WI and was surprised by the intensity of the Packer / Viking rivalry as the Bears had always been more relevent to local football conversations. Granted the Vikings were much better in those years, but I was surprised by the intensity none the less. I never remember anyone getting excited about the occassional Twins / Brewers games.
  6. Love seeing the improvement. I want him slated as starting CF, but I expect / hope for a bit more improvement in the coming year and will be a bit dissapointed if he doesn't improve on this season.
  7. I'm flying to Seattle for the Packers Monday Night Football game, but I'm way more excited about The Crew right now!
  8. This is starting to get silly.
  9. It seems like there is a lot of support for Jeff Bianchi to have a spot on next year's roster. There seems to be growing consensus that he could split time with Segura or possibly handle full time duties if it is deemed Segura needs some extra time in AAA. Following today's game Bianchi's average is at .175 and his OBP is at .217. I understand that we are looking at a small sample size, but his minor league numbers aren't incredible either. I haven't watched a ton of games with him at SS so I can't comment too much on his defense but I would think that if we are putting together a team designed to make the playoffs that we might be looking for something more out of a SS / Utility man. Am I the only one who would like to see us explore other options in the offseason?
  10. Agree that Ishikawa should have gotten that, but that the E goes to Segura. I thought Ishikawa should have gotten to the foul ball from Walker too, but that was made moot with the Axford strikeout.
  11. That run makes me feel better about our chances. I always assume that Axford will give up one run...
  12. Dang it. I was going to bring up Barmes earlier in the game. I'm really glad that we didn't aquire him during the off season, but he is sure looking good today. Speaking of looking good. Loe is not looking good.
  13. Was certainly expecting that to be worse. Kintzler did a nice job of not totally falling apart with the pressure on.
  14. Glad to see him pulled now. Hopefully the pen can hold out. I kind of forgot about the conversations regarding shutting him down until they just mentioned it on air. Will be interesting to see what they do with him.
  15. That homer really felt like it was only a matter of time with the way Fiers has been pitching. 75 pitches in the third inning.
  16. The recent hot streak at the plate has shown me that he isn't completly over matched out there. I'm fine with going into next year with him as the starting SS. On a different note, I would really like to see us pick up a really strong utility infielder that can work into the lineup 4-5 days a week to give everyone a rest on a regular basis and take some pressure off Segura.
  17. Seattle is the closest team to Alaska so I'm pumped that they are headed to Safeco. I might make the trip down there for a couple of games.
  18. Wow. totally missed that sentence in there. I suck.
  19. I thought the most interesting tidbit here was that Gamel didn't get mentioned as an option at 1st base.
  20. Wow sending Rogers out to hit right now says a lot about the condition of the bullpen.
  21. Aren't most drafts kind of like that? One or two that we "just missed" and a couple selected later that turn out to be stars? I believe that the 2009 draft also produced Burgos. Just saying it may not have been a complete waste...
  22. Ryan Braun is a machine. He smoked that ball so hard I thought the bounce would make it playable.
