  1. D Train is one of the great nameless 80s acts. You're the One for Me, Misunderstanding, Music, Hustle and Bustle of the City, Thank You. . .classic dancefloor stuff. As to the video clip. . .The whole lip synching on a tiny stage, in front of a live dance audience, where the music fades out at the end. . .I'm surprised that wasn't really considered all that absurd back then.
  2. He was wonderfully funny, and seemed like a nice guy. With Dick Martin passing away recently and now Harvey Korman, I'm saddened to wonder who the 3rd will be. . .
  3. He seems perfect for his NFL show, and very imperfect for other assignments.
  4. Kapler is the most macho. . .until the Brewers sign Randy Savage. . .Ohhhhhhh Yeahhhhhhhhhh!!
  5. I rear-ended a guy in a roundabout a few years ago. It was the 2nd time that happened to him at the same intersection. . .He started in, and then got scared, and stopped. Meanwhile, I was busy looking at the traffic in the circle, waiting for my opening, I never even thought he was stopped ahead of me. Rented van. . .no damage. . .lesson learned.
  6. None of us is close enough to this team to make any value judgments about any player's attitude. Fielder could be the greatest guy in the world, or he could be a tool. . .none of us really knows. He seems like a terrific guy with the respect of his teammates. He has a world of talent, and we're fortunate to have him on the Brewers. I can see how he might be angry about his salary. I just hope he uses it as motivation to do well.
  7. Bobby Valentine! Not sure if he wants to leave Japan, but he's my favorite guy with experience as a MLB manager.
  8. Please send me her contact info. I may need someone in the future on an occasional basis.
  9. It's been awhile since I read it, but I think he gets into glycemic index. He really drives home the point of six small meals per day, proper portion size, having one day per week that's a free day, etc. Pretty sound stuff, even if you're not specifically on a fitness program or exercise plan.
  10. Read Body-for-Life by Bill Phillips. His advice is sound, and the book will work for a novice. It's now been out for a long time, but it was the first fitness book I read cover-to-cover, and the one that has had the biggest impact on how I eat and exercise.
  11. <---------- After years of working for The Man (mostly in HR), I now spend my time working for The Girl--as a Stay-at-Home Dad. I also freelance as eye candy for stay-at-home moms and maids (pretty much exclusively for those with poor vision).
  12. Good post, TLB. . . First off, I want to repeat that my point on the Indians and Chief Wahoo are that I find that representation offensive--both in name and imagery. Their logo in the early part of the 20th century was even moreso. . . http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/68/OldClevelandIndiansLogo.jpg And if the name and logo were an African American, there would be a nationwide cry to change the name and logo.
  13. Chief Wahoo is offensive to me, and I have no native blood in me. If the caricature were of an African American man, it might hit a little closer to home. It's just that we've had so very many absurd representations of Native Americans in comics, illustrations & cartoons that Chief Wahoo just seems to fit in with the standard issue Narive American depiction.
  14. That's a terrific gesture, and something that should be celebrated. Those players are inspirational, and it feels strange, as I've spent some time recently posting on the Costas Now thread about a fan's right to express displeasure, by booing, etc. This deserves cheers that ring out into the night.
  15. I think thebiglead.com or awfulannouncing.com or maybe even deadspin.com had some of the clips that featured Buzz Bissinger and Will Leitch.
  16. Yes--to a point. Just as I think political talk radio has been a divisive force on our view of politicians, sports talk radio can steer new fans toward thinking that "Yost is this", or "Turnbow is that". But don't blame the media for fans beligerant behavior. If people behave in a manner that is antisocial, or even criminal, then that's they're own doing. A radio host or series of callers didn't make them do that. But I wouldn't lump booing into that category, even if the target is "our beloved team and its players". This team has given us so little for so long that now, when the opportunity seems right there, and someone does something that is boo-worthy, then there's nothing wrong with voicing displeasure. The early days of baseball had fans throwing bottles and fists at players and umpires--but now if we so much as boo, we're criticized for being anti-team. We boo because we care.
  17. The only acceptable thing to do during the wave is to pour your beer down the back of the guy standing up in front of you.
  18. I would take the job, and then start knowing that Jody Davis spelled backward is YDOJ SIVAD. To have a job in baseball would be the coolest possible thing in the world, and team allegiance would have to go into your back pocket for awhile. The Cubs are a historic franchise, with gobs of history, playing in one of the last remaining gems--if it meant rolling up tarps or sweeping the concourse, or getting Lou a bottle of water, you've got to take that (hypothetical) job.
  19. Congrats to you, jwill535. . .that is a remarkable feat. Time to call the ticket office and inquire about a nice little 81 game plan! We're down to just our mortgage, but that may still take a few years. . .
  20. I fell down yesterday. Except I didn't just fall -- I wiped the heck out. . .I don't handle pain well. . .This would just be another incident for Accident-Prone Amy except I have no idea how long it's going to be before I can run again and having my training schedule thrown off sucks. . . By "in the South" do you mean Louisiana? And by "Amy" do you mean Amy Sheets? This explains a lot. . .
  21. Tried and true. . .Benadryl.
  22. There is a table in the Baseball Prospectus Book "Baseball Between the Numbers" that outlines the number of runs that can be expected to score based on baserunner situations and outs. Since it's copyright, I won't replicate it here, but the book is in bookstores.
  23. First off. . .Michael Irvin has a radio show?!? That must be hard on the ears. . . I'm shocked that he would implicate "most of the rest of the players in the league". I would guess a non-user might get pretty hot about being lumped in with the users. He didn't do anyone else any favors with that part. And as for the statement and drug use, I don't think he realizes how many corporate dollars are spent on the league in seats, advertising, etc. His ability to earn the 4-year, $40 million contract is based on appealing to people who may not take kindly to that admission. This may get legs, or may just fade away into nothing. Probably the latter.
  24. Instead of Kool Aid, I'd recommend Crystal Light. The raspberry tea flavor is pretty good, and they make a peach tea, too, that's good. Water, certainly is best of all, but there are days when I absolutely cannot drink another glass of water for lack of taste. Or if you're feeling creative, make real lemonade with lemons or limeade with limes, and use Splenda for sweetner. No calories, tasty and vitamin C (I would think).
