Shaw has outperformed Sano the past two seasons and then fell apart and has been optioned. Sano is hitting under .200, is striking out too much, has two right-handed hitting slugging teammates outperforming him, and batted 9th in the order today. When Marwin Gonzalez returns, Sano may be the odd man out. They have nearly identical service time. Perhaps a change of scenery will help both.
I 100% appreciate what Perez did in Milwaukee, but the fact he was getting at bats versus lefties while Hiura was in the minors and did not do well in those at bats forced something fairly drastic to happen.
The Brewers’ overworked bullpen has thrown 203 pitches in the last four days. The Padres’ bullpen has thrown 427 pitches in the last four games! Hopefully it’s advantage Milwaukee heading to the San Diego series.
Brinson has been disappointing and Yelich has been exceeding expectations, but it’s worth noting that the other three players in the deal have exceeded expectations. Diaz’s AAA season is Hiura-esque. Harrison continues to OPS near .900. Yamamoto continues to be consistent. It will be fun to watch these guys with Miami in upcoming years.
Somehow the result of the Pittsburgh series is Hader, Guerra, Jeffress, Albers, and Houser getting a 72-hour rest before the Brewers take the field again - plus Williams and Barnes being fresh. Thank you, Davies.
Target Field is a nice park - just not tonight. They better have the field in good shape prior to first pitch. The Brewers can’t afford to lose Cain to a hammy injury.
