  1. A special 5th inning from Burnes, striking out Moncada, Abreu on an 11-pitch at bat, and then Grandal - all with Robert on base.
  2. The first four in the lineup on opening day were Sogard, Yelich, Hiura, and Braun. They’re a combined 4-for-49, or .082.
  3. But still was the most-watched MLB regular season game in 9 years.
  4. Except there are only so many wins to go around between the Brewers, Cubs, Cardinals, and Reds. If two of those teams finish well above .500, it will be tough for either wildcard to come from the Central. Beat up on the AL Central. Except we play 13 games against good-to-great AL Central teams and only 7 against the bad ones.
  5. Except there are only so many wins to go around between the Brewers, Cubs, Cardinals, and Reds. If two of those teams finish well above .500, it will be tough for either wildcard to come from the Central.
  6. Last year on this date (July 22, 2019), Yelich was hitting .337 with 35 HRs and a 1.157 OPS.
  7. I forgot how fun it was to have a ground ball pitcher and solid infield play behind him.
  8. With this home plate ump, every game would take 2 hours.
  9. Thought on the lineup for the opener? Cain - CF Yelich - LF Hiura - 2B Narvaez - C Garcia - RF Gamel - DH Smoak - 1B Holt - 3B Arcia - SS
  10. I would think one of the two starters in today’s Blue/Gold game will start Saturday in Chicago.
  11. With Anderson’s blister and Lauer not being stretched out, games 2 and 5 look to be bullpen games.
  12. Devin Williams looks like a high draft pick about to blossom.
  13. I’m guessing no St. Louis Cardinal is doing play by play at as Jim Carrey at their scrimmage like Suter is doing.
  14. DH’ing a couple of times a week will help with the arm fatigue.
  15. The ongoing, raw dialog between BA and Yelich is some of the best TV I’ve seen in a long time. Typically it’s awkward when a player is mic’d up. This has been natural discussion the entire time. Sophia and Rock have been solid, too.
  16. With everything going on in the world, hopefully people have gained perspective and will be less uptight about an athlete swearing.
  17. Players in all sports, including college, are going to need to decide whether they (through salary or overall scholarships) would prefer a less just portion of a larger pie or a more just portion of a substantially smaller pie. Each day this goes on, more fans will be turned off (especially with the realization that they’ve survived three months without sports), and the pie will become permanently smaller.
  18. Overgeneralizing, I can see Gen Z not only disliking the game of baseball but also seeing the business of MLB being against everything they believe in. This coming at the same time when the sport has the most clueless, out of touch commissioner in its history (if Gary Bettman and Roger Goodell are clearly outdoing and out-efforting you, then what value are you adding?). The players at the face of the current issues and the owners hiding between someone (or some tweets) aren’t coming across any better. This all seems to be a toxic mix for the future of MLB.
  19. They say it’s difficult to end your career on top. However, Ben Hendrickson, in his last ever MLB appearance, showed he was 12 years ahead of the times, as he became the Brewers’ first “opener”. Ben opened on May 20, 2006 and then was removed after getting the first out. Actually, the first out never happened, but that’s besides the point.
  20. With the DH in the NL being part of the owners' 2020 proposal, there will be an opportunity for Yelich, Cain, Garcia, and Braun to all be in the lineup.
  21. Brewers had a string of years in the 90’s when they’d bring in second basemen on their last legs (Jody Reed, Willie Randolph, Scott Fletcher) and they performed remarkably well. Randolph had a near-career year in a Milwaukee uniform. Until the Brewers drafted Weeks #2 overall, they treated second basemen like the Packers did offensive guards and inside linebackers.
  22. I like the bigger divisions. In a typical year with smaller divisions, you know by May 1 who’s going to win half the divisions.
  23. I disagree... These guys aren't going to sit by and not get paid. If the opportunity arises for them to get paid less (but still ridiculous amounts of money to the ordinary person) they will do so. I can see future contracts being worded differently for sure, but no way these guys would rather not play, not make any money, than to play and get pro-rated cash. They are itching to play.... especially many of those first through three year guys who want the big increase in pay too. They'll live in isolation for four months for the life changing money. Also, if you are ready to get out, attend a party, go to a favorite restaurant, or see family/friends, you are not alone. Most, if not all, feel this way. For professional athletes, I would guess that keeping them indoors for long periods of time would make them feel all the things we feel times ten. They are constantly on the move during the season, whether that's travelling from city to city, hotel to hotel, restaurant to restaurant, or working out. So.... far different lifestyles for them now, but still in the 1%. No one is feeling sorry for them. I wonder how this compares to their typical spring-training lifestyle or Arizona League lifestyle.
  24. Perhaps it would make sense to experiment at first with a couple weeks of minor league games. It could be done on a volunteer basis, so players or at-risk coaches concerned about leaving their families could not feel the pressure to participate. See what works and what doesn’t and then proceed with MLB games.
