  1. it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that barring injury, justin topa's stay with the club was destined to be brief. given brett anderson's early exit last night, one has to wonder if the brewers plan to shuttle a pitcher from nashville just to get a fresh arm for today's game in advance of freddy peralta's activation on friday. dylan file pitched six innings yesterday, so he's out. alec bettinger last pitched 24 august, so he's fresh. miguel sánchez and eric yardley are eligible to be recalled. jandel gustave could be reinstated from the covid-19 list, although a corresponding move would be required on the 40-man. all players i've suggested can be optioned when peralta needs to be activated. i wouldn't be surprised to see bettinger recalled for today's game. he can eat innings if necessary. as a bonus, if he doesn't appear in the finale in san francisco, he could be the long relief option on friday if freddy peralta falters, and the club could option hoby milner instead. Nice job.
  2. The Brewers have made the playoffs three years in a row, have a 99.8% chance of extending the streak to four, and will be able to run in back next year and (besides Narvaez) again in 2023.
  3. 90% chance of rain - likely looking at a doubleheader tomorrow.
  4. It may have gone through the monster.
  5. It seems like the Reds just hit a wall. They were 10 games over .500 since the end of June but lost ground in the standings. It’s difficult to play at that level and not get rewarded, although their focus now is more on the Padres than the Brewers.
  6. Quite possibly the best thing that could have happened to the Reds today. Arrieta had one good game in the last three months, and it was against the Padres.
  7. A delayed start works better than playing a few and then relying on a bullpen that covered 6 innings yesterday.
  8. Hader reinstated, Milner optioned, Axford to 60-day, per Bally’s. https://www.ballysports.com/wisconsin/news/milwaukee-brewers-josh-hader-injured-list
  9. It wouldn’t surprise me if Counsell tries to get another day of rest for Williams, Box, and Suter. That would leave Hader, Cousins, and Strickland to cover 3 innings if Woodruff can go 6. Throw in Norton, Sanchez, and eventualy Ashby, and the bullpen could finally be back in order.
  10. Yelich, Hiura, and Bradley have combined to be below replacement value, and the Brewers have an 8-game lead in the Central.
  11. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Curtiss put on the IL and Perdomo optioned. That would lead to two of Topa, Yardley, Milner, and Lobstein called up for the August 11 game. Then Hader should be available to return on August 12. With Ashby’s performance and rain-shortened start, he may be available again in a couple of days for another start or relief appearance.
  12. July 25 was the last time the Brewers lost when Curtiss didn’t pitch.
  13. The Marlins knew something about Curtiss to deal him for a mid-level prospect.
  14. Looks like two hours of storms are rolling in by 7:45.
  15. And will hopefully have Cousins back.
  16. If tonight’s game starts on time, I’d consider having an opener and then have Freddy start after the inevitable rain delay.
  17. Rowdy’s pinch hit home run against the Pirates raised the Brewers’ championship win probability by 0.27%. That’s a lot for one at bat in August.
  18. MLB win leaders: San Fran 66 Brewers (and others) 64
  19. Sounds like a lottery ticket who can prove himself, especially during the expanded rosters. Best case is you have a guy with great stuff with closing and postseason experience.
  20. The Eric Sogard era is over in Chicago.
  21. It would be funny if Eloy Jimenez is the return.
  22. He’s going to be a killer against Gallo and Rizzo in the World Series.
