  1. If the playoffs started today, the Padres would not be participating. However, they’re still the 3rd favorite to win the World Series.
  2. After being acquired by the Angels, Strickland immediately pitched 4 times in 5 days (thanks to Joe Madden). Perhaps with a week of rest, he’ll be back to his Rays’ self.
  3. And who cares what any other teams’ fans think? We can pick for ourselves who we get more excited to beat.
  4. I don't think the Brewers have handed them a truly crushing defeat yet, all the big clashes have gone their way. A big reason why I dislike them so much, at least as much as the Cubs if not slightly more. The Brewers did go into their place the last week of 2018 with a playoff berth at stake for both teams and swept them.
  5. Hader and Boxberger have each pitched in over half the games since the trade. That leaves games with only subpar relievers available (like Saturday) and likely sore arms soon.
  6. The Brewers are near first place, and the bullpen is getting worn out, in addition to being depleted by the (worthwhile) Adames trade. It’s time to bring in an overpriced reliever from a non-contender.
  7. Unless the Giants falter, it’s likely winner take all for a single playoff spot.
  8. Before the season, I thought if they could get to the end of the second Padres’ series with a .500 record, they’d be in good shape. The Brewers up to this point have the toughest strength of schedule in the NL (the Cubs have the easiest). Now they need to perform against the weaker teams like they have against the top teams.
  9. Houser, Pina, and Counsell are going to get tossed.
  10. He was a pioneer ... for Corbin Burnes: low walks, high strikeouts, Cy Young-type numbers, and no run support.
  11. Already the 4th no hitter this year in MLB. So much for more balls in play. Am I the only one who doesn’t get excited about no hitters anymore? They have become way too common for me to consider them special, and much more often than not they are thrown by pitchers who are not in the elite category. I get excited about any complete game.
  12. If Braun hit .203, he’d be an above-average hitter on this team.
  13. You can also slide late with your spikes ankle high the next time that fielder is near the base, which will likely happen this series.
  14. The Brewers have a higher batting average and slugging percentage than the Yankees.
  15. How about his recent Brewer career? So bad at one point in 2018 that he was sent to the minors, injured all of 2019, and horrible in 2020. Who could possibly have envisioned that claiming 'trade lost' after 4.1 innings might prove to be unwise? I choose to remember 2018 Knebel for his lights-out dominance in the postseason: 2 hits allowed in 10 innings.
  16. Biggest win of the year. With all the success so far this year, it could have been tossed away by getting swept in Wrigley. Being severely short-handed and coming from behind to guarantee a winning road trip is a good sign.
  17. Dodgers / Padres may be the most interesting and intense rivalry in baseball right now.
  18. Congrats to Carlos Rodon for throwing a NL hitter. Baseball is on pace for 27 no nos this season.
  19. Burnes’ worst game score of the year was when he gave up no hits and no walks against the Twins through 6 innings.
  20. I was just thinking the one thing this pitching staff needs is a second lefty. Hopefully Perdomo can find decent success. It’s only 9 games into the season, but the pieces are coming into place.
