  1. If you can see it theatrically its a must. That film would play so well on the big screen.
  2. [Rec] 2 is even better.

  4. Yeah I used Firefox when it was Phoenix. I was a big Netscape fan back in the day and I was ridiculously happy when someone dug it out from the rafters and gave it a nice tuneup.
  5. but there were certain parts of the movie where the dialogue was drowned out by the music, a couple times at pretty key points. This is supposed to be this way. The sound design is actually pretty gutsy in this respect.
  6. We had to get clearance to use titles and I believe only 6 of us did. The rest of us had to come up with other options. I decided to incorporate the song titles into the short story titles so once someone knows the album I chose its pretty easy to figure out what the song title is. And for the record I chose Dirt by Alice in Chains. I believe all of us chose albums from the 90's, with varying levels of obscure to mainstream. It isn't much of a coincidence that those of us who chose more mainstream albums ended up being the ones who had the hardest time getting permission to use the song titles.
  7. There is no chance the T-Wolves take Cousins as he refused to work out for them and has straight up told them he doesn't want to play for them. If the Nets take Johnson they will happily take Favors. And you wouldn't want either Love or Jefferson, as neither gives a damn about defense. I read last night that Favors begrudgingly came to Minnesota for a workout, and then their GM bashed him for being out of shape. The writer said it really strained the relationship with Favors and Minnesota. He said that Turner and Johnson being gone was a nightmare scenario for Minnesota, because neither Favors or Cousins want to go to the TWolveshttp://www.kare11.com/spo...icle.aspx?storyid=853042 Kahn's statement is being blown way out of proportion by bloggers. As for begrudgingly coming to Minnesota, that's simply not true. Unlike some prospects, Favors is not being picky about where he goes. He's eager to show he's more than just a defensive presence in the paint. "I'll work out for whoever calls and asks, and not even just in the top five," he said. Most of the beat writers in town think all of this is being done specifically so New Jersey will pass on Favors so the T-Wolves can draft him.

  9. Or at least contributed 10 stories to an anthology called Cover Stories. The basic premise is that each of us chose an album that we loved, then selected 10 songs from that album and wrote stories that were influenced by those songs creating a literary mixed tape. Its something I've been working on for the past year and I'm really quite proud of it. Now I know you might not be willing or interested in plopping down $17 for a 500 page anthology from writers you may not even like so to hopefully entice you into giving the book a try we put together a free sampler download that contain one story from each author. Besides that in recent weeks I've devoted two different podcasts to discussing what it was like working on the book, the issues I had with my story titles and then devoting one entire podcast to the origination of the story Rufus' Rooster, which was written just a few days after hearing the news that my grandfather was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Episode 1 Episode 2 The book is available on both Amazon and CreateSpace, though we prefer people buy it from CreateSpace since we make more money from them. If you do like the sampler and want to buy the book, just send me a quick message here on Yuku and I'll give you a coupon code so you can get $2 off the cover price. http://haikukoala.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/coverstories.png
  10. April OPS - 741 May OPS - 880 June OPS - 968 I'm sorry, what's the issue again?
  11. I disagree with the movies available for streaming on Netflix, they keep adding titles every day and its now my preferred way to watch movies. I rarely watch the discs I rent, and instead stream them whenever possible. I'd also second the recommendation of Amazon VOD. Its cheap and easy and has a good selection of films to choose from.
  12. Awesome. Now we just need laura to steal it for her sig.
  13. The double decker highway in Austin is the work of the devil. THE DEVIL! Though the u-turn lanes are nothing short of asphalt covered bliss.
  14. 2005 was a banner year Robert, especially for documentaries. I think I had 5 in my top 10 that year. Plus any year that has one of the Up series released is a good year no matter what. I'd agree that 2000 was pretty bad, and even up until about 2004 the decade looked fairly unremarkable. I stand by Observe and Report. It's a brilliant film that actually pushed the boundaries of what a mainstream comedy can and should be. From its Travis Bickle styled protagonist, to an homage to Oldboy's hammer fight, to consistently forcing its audience to view ludicrous characters as delusional at best, borderline sociopathic at worst, its a film that represents raw unrestrained comedy at its finest. Heck, it makes Eastbound and Down look tame by comparison, which is a heck of a feat. I actually kind of like the Costume Designer's speech. Its not often you hear someone admit they win because they do what the Academy likes, no because they are the best at what they do. Also not sure why people are ragging on Mo'nique's speech when Sandra Bullock openly admitted to campaigning in hers. Its the Oscars, politics are par for the course. And the interpretive break dancing might have been the single worst thing ever broadcast. Ever.
  15. The Cove Adventureland Moon Where the Wild Things Are In the Loop Ponyo The Informant Drag Me to Hell World's Greatest Dad Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans Coraline Anvil! The Story of Anvil The Road The Fantastic Mr Fox The White Ribbon A Prophet Bronson Thirst House of the Devil Observe and Report And I could add a handful more of just festival films that really didn't get much if any release. Heck, I'd take a Top 5 of Moon, Anvil!, The Road, The Cove and The White Ribbon and put it up against any5 of the nominated films and not think twice.
  16. It was actually an incredibly strong year in an incredibly strong decade. Just because they didn't pick all the right films for Best Picture doesn't mean their weren't 10 films worthy of being nominated.
  17. Keanu totally rocks in Thumbsucker. He actually chews scenery, who knew he could do that?!?! Also, he's also pretty damn good in A Scanner Darkly.
  18. I've been hounding Robert to continue this whole concept for my site for at least a year now. If not there, he better still do it here.
  19. Well for one the endowment for Texas is for the entire Texas school system, which includes 9 universities and 6 health institutions, not just solely for the University of Texas @ Austin. Endowments can skew based on size as well, as the Texas endowment covers over 190K students, while Ohio State's (the second largest university in the US) covers ~55K. That being said Texas @ Austin still ranks fairly high in endowment per student but the gap isn't as large as you perceive it to be. Secondly, universities only spend 5% of their endowments, so grants/subsidies are far more valuable to them. A $50 million grant is worth as much to a university as $1 billion in endowment. Getting in the CIC would open Texas to a massive amount of grant money that would relatively dwarf their endowment.
  20. penny cannot believe you put a tablespoon of butter in the pasta when she’s told you a thousand times that she’s vegan. That's awesome.
  21. How's this for irony? In 1992, faced with declining ratings and Letterman threatening to move to CBS, Leno said he'd leave NBC if they moved his show to 12:30 or gave it to someone else.
  22. Moon comes out on DVD tomorrow. If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to give it a chance. Its a terrific film with a couple of great performances. Also, Land of the Lost was awesome. 90 minutes of non sequitor humor. It didn't care about plot, just simply went for humor, and time and again I found it ridiculously funny.
  23. With Hulu and Netflix you can pretty much have access to any movie or TV show for just a few dollars a month. Most of Netflix streaming I use for older TV shows, while Hulu I use for recent shows. Then I just get 2 discs at a time for movies and watch obscure stuff that way as I buy movies I like so I can rewatch them whenever I please.
  24. I'm collaborating on a book with some people and we've run into some questions regarding potential copyright issues and I was hoping someone here might be able to help shed a little light. Just message me and I'll be able to give you actual details.
