I would guess that it spreads people out to get their necessities. If there is only ONE place to get food, everybody has to go to that place to get it. This seems problematic to me. It also helps those restaurants stay in business. I hear what you are saying. This is how I view it. Now I'm sure there are people who love the deli/bakery at their local grocery store, and because of that will make 3-4 trips to the store every week. But I think those people are in a minority. For most people, I'd guess the grocery store is a once a week or once every couple of weeks trip. Before the COVID-19 stuff started, I was a once a week to the grocery store and generally 3 times a week stop somewhere and pick up dinner to take home. I have completely stopped with the takeout food and an just doing grocery shopping once a week but am going to try and stuff as much in my fridge after the next trip where I can make it a once every two week trip. I'm guessing there are a lot of people out there like me who would limit there movement much more if takeout food wasn't an option. Also, what about if the one kid working the drive through at McDonald's is also the one person who has been infected with COVID-19 and just doesn't know it yet. Now the rules have funneled every customer right to a contagious individual. And as far as allowing take out food allowing restaurants to (1) stay in business and (2) spreads people out more...wouldn't that apply to all retail businesses? If I need a couple new shirts, instead of being able to go to a clothing retailer, I now am forced with all the other people to a Walmart or Target. The Ohio Stay at Home thing is a joke and I'm guessing Wisconsin's will be equally as ridiculous. The way Ohio's is, it would be perfectly fine to start out my day by going and getting some groceries, and then stopping at the auto store to pick up an air filter on the way back. Then I could head to the laundromat, then head to the wacky weed dispensary to pick up some dope, and then go pick up some take out food. So I have to ask, what good is an order like this? Just seems like politician's doing the "we're going to save you" pose, when essentially these orders aren't really accomplishing anything at all except preventing me from getting my springtime haircut. Time will tell. Illinois employed theirs on Saturday at 5pm. We'll see in a week or two how well that stemmed the new case load.

I'm just skeptical of how the policies actually accomplish that. Maybe there's a small handful of people who might be coerced by a governor's order, but for the most part, those who take this seriously are already following stay at home policies. Those who aren't really going to have their mind changed by a policy that let's be honest, isn't going to be legally enforced. Same with businesses. Aren't we already at the point where non-essential businesses have closed and we're only left with the essentials? I don't know what is open and not open in WI right now. And if people want to go hang out in a basement yeah this doesn't stop them. I'll be curious to see what the rules are around this. Here in Illinois I haven't found it all that restrictive from a personal perspective.

Also, the immediate goal isn't necessarily zero transmission. It's reducing the rate of transmission so the healthcare system can handle it. Stay at home policies accomplish that.

The government is still heavily regulated in paper so if there even was a willingness to do this it would take an act of god to get the US government to go from paper to digital. Currently in compliance for a bank and everything has to be on paper otherwise some departments are out of compliance. There are some other countries where paper is not needed and it is all digital. Unfortunately in the US that is not going to happen any time soon as the baby boomers and gen-x are still holding onto paper records being the standard. Gen-x is about as stubborn as the baby boomers are in not wanting to go digital. We also know cursive and will use it to communicate code like the Apache in WWII.

Yes, most people that get it recover just fine. But I think something to consider is the way people die from this. My understanding is that it's kind of awful - they aren't just falling asleep and not waking up. Most are on ventilators that are supposed to breath for them but they can't quite do it just right because of the diseased lung tissue. That is not a pleasant way to go. People are basically drowning in their own fluids. And a clue from that article why Italy's mortality rate is so high - they are only testing people with SEVERE Symptoms. So there are likely 3-4 times as many infected that just haven't been identified as they are either asymptomatic or have mild symptoms. Sounds like the Germans are testing anyone they can. Based on what you are saying about that article.... So much dishonesty (and unknown being put out as “facts”) being printed by journalists it’s not funny. Some people need to lose their profession when this is all said and done. Basically with our alleged horrible testing our death rate is still only 1.3%. At the risk of being called someone that doesn’t care because I really do and it does bother me when I go out, we may be ruining our way of life over essentially nothing when we look back in a few years at this. I repeat, it is very real to those infected or who lose love ones, not downplaying it in that manner. The “essentially nothing” refers to other diseases we lose scores more people to and nobody cares because it happens slower, as well as there is no shock factor or ability for government to twist the population around its finger and see what they can get away with. As of today approximately 0.000033% of the world has been confirmed infected with coronavirus. Never let a good crisis go to waste. Other diseases aren't as contagious. No one's saying what we're doing will be 100% effective. What we're doing is slowing the spread of the virus so our healthcare system can handle it. And social distancing doesn't mean don't go to the grocery store. It means keep your distance from others when you do. Obviously you might occasionally get close to someone but just do your best to stay 6 feet or so away from people. Flattening the curve is the entire reason we are where we are right now.
