This is why his signing was so awesome. They literally gave up next to nothing to get him. In the end they will get either a king's ransom in prospects (assuming he keeps going on a 30 - 40 HR pace) or they get an All Star 1st baseman for three years.
Don't overlook Barbosa's 2 hitless innings with 5 K's. He might just be the lefty bullpen arm they need in Milwaukee. Interesting prospect. He's 29 and has K'd a lot of guys in his career but as is typical of hard throwers that can't quite make the jump he's walked a lot of guys too. Seems like last season he was able to find the zone a bit more often. Hope that continues.
That's potentially a big deal. Was reading a book over the winter about what makes an elite athlete elite. In regards to baseball, they said most hitters that get to the majors have ridiculous eyesight. Like so good you can't even measure it.
He hasn't messed with the rotation and lo and behold it's now being led be 3 guys in the prime of their careers. If Guerra comes back strong why can't this roster compete for a wild card? Then I wake up and there is another Braun to Dodgers report? That's what frustrates me. When the Brewers are a game over .500 at the deadline and trade Braun, I look forward to your reaction.
With apologies for going a bit off topic for a post...I just entered the hawing address into Walkscore and got a 78. Woot. Carry on. We got a 97...granted this does not take crime into account. So while I can walk everywhere I need to dodge police tape every so often
That one AB where he took the ball to right field looked great. Then there were a few swings where he was stepping in a bucket and not staying with the pitch. I think he just needs time and experience.
This website can give you more details on different neighborhoods/cities and their walkability: https://www.walkscore.com/WI/Appleton Appleton as a whole doesn't grade very well but a few neighborhoods aren't bad.
Right, and we heard all winter how the Brewer defense would be tightened up with the move of Villar to 2B. Seeing is believing. Ability to make occasional great defensive plays doesn't make one a great defensive player if you don't make the routine plays virtually all the time. Ortega's .949 fielding percentage at SS does not say "above average defense" defense to me nor do his 116 career errors in under 500 games. Derek Jeter's fielding % his first full year in A ball was .889. He had 131 errors in his first 454 minor league games.
After 2 games and 2 innings, Gatewood already has roughly 28% of his walk total from all of 2016. Edit: After 2 games and 5 innings, Gatewood already has roughly 33% of his walk total from all of 2016.
I used to be against this but for as much as even crappy players are costing these days, I completely understand this thought process from a team like the Brewers. It's something all teams regardless of market do. Cubs did it with Bryant. It's just the way the system is set up right now.
