  1. Figured we could start a thread for anyone that's seen the movie. If you haven't seen the movie I recommend not reading this thread.
  2. Maybe this has been covered earlier in the thread, but I don't think the 1st base option has to be "cheap". I'd almost prefer a guy that is a veteran that they can then flip at the deadline for more nuggets.
  3. If you have a problem with analytics that's fine but no need to call stats "nerdy" or that stats are for nerds. Conversely it's ok for people to think stats are overrated. Just different viewpoints. Disagree like adults, please.
  4. Do we really have that better of a farm than the Pirates do? I would have thought they were pretty even or maybe even a slight edge to Pittsburgh. I'm going strictly off the MLB top 30 list. Pirates appear to have more top end talent (top 30 in all of baseball) but Brewers have way more depth overall. Brewers could have top 5 system in baseball when it's all said and done this off-season.
  5. http://milwaukee.locals.baseballprospectus.com/2015/12/18/brewers-get-creative-trade-rogers-to-pittsburgh/ JP Breen with his take. The market inefficiency Stearns is employing is rookie level prospects that haven't busted out yet. Houston found a ton of nuggets this same way. It puts a lot of pressure on your low level scouts but can pay big dividends for teams that can't compete financially with the likes of Chicago, LA, Boston, etc. As for the Rogers trade, look at it this way: Supak was the Pirates #15 prospect. He barely cracks the Brewers top 30.
  6. Are you suggesting Milwaukee has more fair weather fans than most teams?
  7. I love me a good "do strikeouts matter" thread. Haven't had one in a few years.
  8. Crawford was 29. Heyward is 26. Basically the Cubs took a 2.2 WAR player (Fowler) and replaced him with a 6.5 WAR player that's three years younger. That's an improvement. They are playing for the "window within the window". End of the day this improves their team a great deal...and that's not even mentioning Zobrist or Lackey.
  9. The KC Royals say hello.
  10. Really enjoyed this article. Appears to be a smart guy with an understanding of what he is doing at the plate and why. I can see him having a decent career. Would be nice to stick it to the Cardinals as well after they released him. wow. masters in engineering from Stanford. Smart dude.
  11. If I had to guess I'd say only Walsh makes the roster.
  12. I feel like it's really hard to fall off a top 100 list once you're on but very difficult to get on it if you don't start out top 100 when you are drafted/acquired.

  14. You are the only one on the board who thought the Brewers had a chance to be competitive next year. I guess that explains why you've hated every move they've made so far.
  15. But dude can Edward 40 Hands with the best of em.
  16. I wouldn't be too worried if I'm Scooter that a guy who's already 26 (Scooter's 25) and barely has any experience above AA is going to take my job. For all we know they drafted Walsh to play 1B or 3B. I bet Walsh had more walks last year than Scooter has had in his entire MLB career.
  17. The more I read about Walsh the more excited I get. Be interested to see a scouting report on him. Edit: And he's a switch hitter? Wow.
  18. yeah definitely a bullpen arm. Seemed to struggle with command at AA. Maybe his stuff moves a bunch and the more advanced hitters lay off it.
  19. Jones is a K meister. Career 186Ks in 130IP. Potential back end of the bullpen guy?
  20. Kind of on the old side but an intriguing player. Gets on base a TON (career .395 OBP) and has shown power in the past (slugged .470 last year). But seems like he's been really up and down stats wise. Maybe he's been playing hurt?
  21. To win a pennant you need, at the very least, an ace or even two. A team like Milwaukee can't buy an ace on the open market so they have to develop one. Sometimes that means throwing a bunch of darts at once and see which one hits the bulls-eye. Perhaps the market inefficiency Stearns is looking for is grabbing prospects that show promise but haven't had that break-out season yet which means they'd be too pricey to acquire. In any case, the brewers need as many chips as possible (Particularly pitching chips) with which they can deal to fill in the blanks later.
  22. At the end of the day, I'd prefer prospects that are slightly more projectable. Kids in the DSL and short season...so hard to get any sense of what they might be. But I do like the peripheral numbers all the same. It's nugget accumulation time, folks. No quick fixes.
  23. I think they overpaid regardless, but if he is a decent #2 it might be worth it for them. I really feel like they could have gotten Jose Fernandez or added just a little more to get him with that package though. Why not just got all out? Man if he resorts to being average what an awful trade that would be. Complete disaster...won't be able to judge this trade till he pitches and see where the D Backs go. If he pitches like a #2 and they win it all hard to be sad. clarkspencer ‏@clarkspencer 2h2 hours ago Hearing that #Marlins had deal working with D-Backs: Jose Fernandez for Corbin, Swanson and 3 others -- until Zona landed Shelby Miller.
