  1. I'd trade Gamel for Lincecum in a heartbeat.
  2. The Brewers gave up two promising pitchers for a 2.5 month rental of a middle reliever. I don't mind trading those guys but I do mind what we got in return. To me, a middle reliever (with suspect seasonal numbers to boot) isn't going to be enough to get you into the playoffs (hindsight notwithstanding). Maybe Garrison and Inman end up doing nothing in the majors but I still think the Brewers could have gotten more in return than what they did.
  3. I seriously get goose bumps looking at the ridiculous Nintendo numbers the Huntsville team is putting up. I"d have been happy with .875 OPS from either Gamel or LaPorta but both of them over 1.100? That's some kind of a joke. There are so many outstanding performances on this team it's hard not to overlook someone like Gillespie who's putting up a great OBP and showing some pop or Errecart or Brantley or Salome..etc.etc. Heck, bring em all up to the majors - can't be much worse than what we've seen so far. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. So who would replace Gagne as closer? Options from the current roster would be Torres, Mota, Riske, Stetter?? Pena is an option too. I think of all those Torres is the safest bet. Mota probably fits the profile better but my gut tells me he'd have trouble throwing strikes in that role.
  5. LaPorta is also a former catcher.
  6. "Gwynn for Inman and Garrison! " That would be funny.
  7. I know this is nearly impossible to do, but the one time I got a 4.0 in college I actually read ahead in the book - that way I was already familiar with the material before the lecture.
  8. They Live is a guilty pleasure of mine - I'll watch that every time it's on TV. Obviously it's not without fault (there's a fight scene where Roddy Piper is trying to get another guy to try on a pair of glasses and it goes on for an eternity. Just try on the damn glasses already!) but on the whole it's entertaining.
  9. Sounds tailor made for Judge Judy.
  10. I'll be at games on Fri and Sat. Looking forward to seeing the Crew at least compete a little bit - maybe it'll be a turning point?e
  11. I'm guessing our two entries to the futures game will be Gamel and LaPorta.
  12. "brantley looks like he could have gotten the guy if he stretches for that one. " It was a bunt. I'm sure the throw was from pretty close and you're not supposed to stretch until you know where the ball is going. It's rare you ever see a 1B stretch on a throw from near home plate.
  13. Keeneland is steeped in tradition. If enough pressure mounts (no pun intended) they'll switch.
  14. I know they've developed some new track surface that is supposed to reduce horse injuries. It's been implemented at Keeneland in Lexington but I don't know if it's installed at Churchill Downs. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/horses/2006-10-04-polytrack-keeneland_x.htm
  15. Not to mention Yo threw several pitches after the accident and looked fine. So you have player that says he's fine, trainer that says he's fine, and visual evidence that he's fine. I can't really fault anyone there.
  16. As a college umpire, he was not outside of the basepath that he would have been called out. Furthermore, if a player without the ball (Yovani) is obstructing, it is acceptable for him to attempt to go around that player either by running or by sliding. I'll post rule chapters and interpretations if you feel the need to read them I just watched the play on MLB.tv several times and I think it could have been worse had Johnson been in the basepath. If we need to blame someone, it's Yo for taking a bad angle to the base (really, he didn't even get to the base. He crossed the line several feet before he got there.) but even that's not really his fault because Prince sort of forced him to veer in that direction. Just a bad accident.
  17. "Gallardo had no chance of being relevant in the play so why not blame him if you have to blame someone? I was watching the play and thinking %!# is Gallardo doing more than anything." totally agree
  18. Anyone think Yo took a really bad angle on that play? Isn't he supposed to go "with" the line as opposed to "across" it?
  19. Any opportunity for increased revenue should be jumped on....not to mention its a good chance to see more baseball and root against the Cubs!
  20. Recruiting violations and morality aside, Sampson is a good coach and tends to get a lot out of his players. I think he'll be good in the pros.
  21. I realize everyone is pretty depressed over this news. Here is one way to defeat depression from our friend, Chris Crocker. It's safe for work until the very last second of the video - watch with the sound off and you're fine:
  22. I find it very difficult to believe that statutory rape of a 12 year old would not be prosecuted 100% of the time. 15 - 17 year old I can understand.
  23. I don't remember discussing any of Sveum's decisions except for the JJ Hardy play (which, by the way, took a bare handed pickup and perfect throw from a terrible left fielder).
  24. I don't understand how someone can't feel a bit of pity for him. I don't care if you're a billionaire - if you suck at what you do and the whole world knows about it you get depressed. Money ain't everything.
  25. Fukudome made a nice play on Prince. At the time, I though it was a good play to send him.
