I would have said a lot of places other than the Midwest until I read that series about water shortages in the south and southwest in the Journal this weekend. Atlanta's gonna run out of water in a couple of decades and I bet the desert southwest isn't far behind.

Even during the beginning of the season, the Cubs run differential predicted that they were underachieving. Eventually the law of averages caught up and they started winning. Their Pythagorean record was only 2 games better than the actual finish so the Cubs did about what they should have last year.

All teams have players taller than 6-8. Not all of them contribute equally. Barro is a very good defender but a suspect offensive player. What I'm saying is having "big-ish" guys (6-8, 6-9) that can move, jump, rebound, defend and score is better than having a bunch of Stiemsma's in my opinion. It's great if you can recruit two athletic 7-footers but that is not realistic. The study I was quoting limited the height to 6'8" and MSU (only one I bothered to look up) had a couple of 6'9" guys that played significantly. I know it's just an inch so probably not worth discussing. But I do think that Marquette is undersized. If they had just ONE Stiemsma in the middle (not saying they need three of him) they would be a much better team. -
I liked UWs odds against GU, I like them better against Davidson.

I think the act of throwing a baseball is just completely unnatural joint movement. I don't think mound height would have a significant impact on that. -

Blazer, You need height to win a national championship. Some Sporting News guy was on Chicago radio the other day mocking Bob Knight's prediciton that Pitt would win it all because they didn't have anyone over 6'8" that contributed. He did some research and found that only like one or two teams the last 20 years without a player taller than 6'8"made it to the Final Four. Also, there have been studies done that show that taller teams in general beat shorter teams - not saying it can't be done the other way but maybe it's not a coincidence that MUs best run in the tourney in recent memory was when they had Robert Jackson in the middle. -

I'm in first place in one bracket I did - payout is like $900. Anyone have better than 28 right so far? That's the best I've seen in any of the pools I'm involved with.

I asked a friend in Vegas to play the money line for me on Davidson and Western KY. He overslept and never got the bets in.

"rendevous with their boyfriends" Yeah, what was that about? I thought that was an odd way to develop that character. Like we needed to know his sexual orientation. Maybe it will come up again later on.

Their last three tourney games they have not looked good at all. " They looked fine last night. They never win pretty. And last year's team is not a true indication of Bo Ryan basketball (might have been different had Butch not been hurt) He's got a Final 8 and a Sweet Sixteen on his resume with this same style of basketball. Are you expecting the Final Four every year?

I really don't have much to complain about with UW. Cal St averaged 80+ points per game and scored 56. They had something like 4 guys with 30+ steals this year so TOs are not unexpected. And if Akognon wasn't draining from NBA range this game wouldn't have been close. It played out like a typical UW game - close first half then UW pulls away at the free throw line in the second half.

This Akognon guy is insane. He looks NBA caliber to me even if he's wee. He's got over half their points.

This is setting up as a typical Badger game. CSF has 5 fouls already in the second half - UW has 1. UW will be shooting free throws the final 10 minutes of this game.
