  1. I think we tend to read too literally into everything Nedly says. I'm not defending him, but it's quite possible he knows he screwed up and is too proud to admit it publicly. Later in the article he mentions he knows he screwed up last year but didn't want to say when.
  2. Unfortunately, that doesn't help out his trade value very much. Some GM may overvalue his win total.
  3. I was really sick recently for about a week. One of the worst parts is the "fever dreams" or whatever you want to call them. Like my roommate's kid had been playing Mario Kart Double Dash all day and the song was just running through my head all night long. I caught a fever while watching the first Lord of the Rings movie in a theater. Longest movie of my life - much more enjoyable when I saw it on DVD. Anyway, that was probably the worst fever I've had as an adult. To cap it off, I was in Boston for work and was stuck in the hotel all week. I had some crazy LOTR dreams - man those freaked me out.
  4. Aldo Leopold's dad? Henry David Thoreau? Edit: Whizkid got it.
  5. Life's too short to hate anything.
  6. Spoilers OK, I've spent the last six weeks watching seasons two and three on DVD and now I've finally watched all three episodes of season four on DVR. I really like the new season although it's getting a weird vibe about it - everyone seems to be turning evil. Sawyer is killing people, Sayid becomes an assassin, Jack pulls a trigger on Locke, Locke is nuts, Kate is hot, Claire is hot.....did I mention Kate is hot? Anyway, the "flash forwards" are really interesting and provides a look at how the show will exist once they move off the island. It's almost like two steps forward, one step back with the plot but I like it. I don't need everything tied up with a little bow right now....I'm just enjoying the ride. Now if things aren't explained in the last year of the series, I'll be pissed - but let's cross that bridge when we come to it.
  7. As I recall his minorleague splits against lefties were Nintendo like as well. Maybe he's just a freak.
  8. Braun was on a 48 HR pace for a full season last year (as a 23 year old rookie). Assuming he progresses, I don't think it'd be shocking if he hit 60 but it'd be pretty surprising.
  9. William H Macy had a pattern of bad luck in The Cooler.
  10. I think a lot of pro athletes do stuff like this but they don't get the publicity that morons like Pacman Jones or Mike Vick get. Sporting News devotes an entire issue every year to 'good guys'. http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=102932
  11. Latest is that he had stopped taking his medication.
  12. My Corn Flakes were soggy this morning. I blame Ned.
  13. Other way around : http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=William%20Inman&pos=P&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=488989
  14. My gripe wasn't so much with who we traded, its what we got in return. I think they could have gotten more than a two month rental of a middle reliever for those same three prospects.
  15. "Rufus King isn't just "pretty good", it's the best high school in the state and one of the best in the country. " Based on what metric?
  16. While I would not go so far as to use the word "fleece" until the prospects actually hit the majors, I do think the Brewers botched that trade. I don't see trading three solid prospects for a two month rental of a middle reliever as a really good move.
  17. Rufus King is a pretty good school. The problem is that it's the exception not the norm.
  18. Guys I dont know if this has been said or not..... but Kendall had Lasik eye surgery in November and has told people that it makes a Huge difference...... maybe thats why his batting average dropped from .290 to .240 from 2006 to 2007...... or the fact that his 30% throwing out rate dropped to 15% from 2006 to 2007....its tough to throw people out when your aim is off..... I don't think it would have much to do with his throwing. It's not like he was seeing double or anything. My eyesight is far from perfect and I never had a problem throwing guys out as a catcher - now hitting a curve ball......that's another story.
  19. "the incident began as a fight between two girls in a common area that quickly drew about 100 other students. Some other fighting and scuffling followed, she said, but there were no injuries reported." My dad taught junior high for 35 years and said the cat fights were always 10 times more entertaining, er, vicious than the fights between guys. http://www.isd77.k12.mn.us/schools/dakota/mystery/mystery2006/catfight.jpg
  20. "he knows how to win which is not a bad quality to have from your 5th starter (why I like Bush and Vargas over Capuano" Capuano has more wins than Bush or Vargas the last three years. If you want to discount his one 18 year win as a fluke then you must discount Hernandez' 15 win year from Washington. And if you want to talk wins you have to talk about run support. The two are very dependent on one another. Vargas was 2nd int he NL in runs per 9 innings last year and Capuano was 50th (difference of over two runs per 9 innings).
  21. I'm fairly certain End was being sarcastic.
  22. MillerParkSouth, I live in Chicago area. This has been the consensus of the entire Chicago media including print, talk radio etc. It's nothing new. To them an NL Central title is a foregone conclusion. Even "experts" like Steve Stone has been saying that the Cubs are far and away the best of the division. In fact I've yet to hear one comment from anyone either in the Sun Times, Tribune, or radio, that anyone including the Brewers in the Central is even so much as a threat to the Cubs. I don't read Chicago print but the sports radio has already annointed the Cubs division champs. Of course, these are the same guys that said they were done in May of last year so I really take what they say with a grain of barley.
  23. Maybe a Brewerfan "McFadden" jersey. Since I'm a personal friend of Mr. McFadden's, I'd be happy to design something he'd approve of.
