  1. not to over-hype, but Jorge Lopez' performance has to get some national recognition....I again assert he is a top 100 guy. His breaking pitch was voted the best in the Southern league, which to me is the top league in minor league baseball in regard to top talent.....
  2. A couple things I am excited about: 1B. Maverick Phillips is leading all of the minors in runs scored and triples and seems to be our leadoff hitter of the future - and a guy in the mold of my favorite player - Paul Molitor....he really reminds me of a lefty hitting Molly. 1A. The announcers are calling him Maverick!!! I did not realize he was going by his middle name....that is awesome 2. Jorge Lopez IS a top 100 prospect...that question I asked earlier this summer has been answered quite definitively - his ranking in the latest BA tools ratings as having the best breaking pitch in the entire league tells the tale.....if he can get a third plus pitch he would have the makings of an ace. 3. Garrett Cooper is a grampa, yes, I know he is 24 and will turn 25 in offseason, but to do what he is doing in the FSL makes me take serious notice. 4. Trent Clark is the son Tony Gwynn never had (with apologies to good guy TG JR).....I know the league is beneath him, but Clark is a professional hitter at the age of 18
  3. I accidentally realized something as I was perusing stats last night that makes me re-evaluate some things involving my top 30...namely Garrett Cooper is going into my top 20 even being 24 after realizing that he leads the FSL in OPS. The climate and ballparks hold down power so much in the FSL that after Alex Blandino's promotion, Garrett Cooper holds the top OPS, even with a sub .800. The fact he was an older college draftee in 2013 makes his status a bit more muted, but the fact he is just 2 years out of college and leading a league, any league, in OPS carries some serious weight with me.
  4. Rosenthal just tweeted that Blue Jays are still working on trading for Fiers....would love Pompey somehow coming back in a deal
  5. Bummed out about Hudgens, as he was a teammate at UNC Charlotte of one of my former players I coached and he followed me on twitter after I congratulated him on getting drafted....
  6. From the late great Jerry Coleman, this would for sure have been the greatest play to see, as well as the most tragic/comic: “Winfield goes back to the wall, he hits his head on the wall and it rolls off! It’s rolling all the way back to second base. This is a terrible thing for the Padres.”
  7. Several Mets fans/insiders are stating on twitter than the Mets were very close to a deal for Parra last night and that the trade talks broke down at the last second....Conforto was called up after the trade broke down ....pure conjecture on my part, but I think the trade was for D'arnaud, their injured catcher, which would lead then to a Luc trade
  8. Could you link to where you found that, and that? That would be a fascinating list to peruse
  9. I love the home and roads. I want to wait to see a better image of the alternates, but from the blurry image that is posted, i do not think I will like them and would have preferred that they simply had blue / cream alternates. molitorfan, the reason is that I love the classic look of the main jerseys. I do not like the trend of just putting a logo on the chest of the jersey (golden state). The green and whites had a modern yet classic look. I think everyone should hold off judgement until they are revealed and you can see a clear picture. I wonder if that will be tonight at the open house. Understood....I think the entire cadre of the new line is outstanding
  10. Tyler Thornburg says hi.......
  11. 502 - good call - Robin is now Geddy Lee's doppelganger....and what trouble were Yount and Fingers getting into where they would be called into Selig's office and being yelled at? That seems weird.
  12. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2015/7/24/9030429/evaluating-the-newest-brewers-prospect-yhonathan-barrios From Quinn Berry: Perhaps surprisingly, Barrios has been pretty successful as a pitcher in his minor league career. Despite a small frame (5-11, 180), Yhonathan has an extremely live arm and can generate almost 100 miles per hour of velocity on his fastball. The offering has late sinking action which, when combined with the speed, makes it incredibly difficult to hit. The ball comes out freely and easily from his very simple and low-effort delivery. Yhonathan’s off-speed pitchers are, predictably, far behind his heater. His change-up does exhibit some good fade, but he has a tendency to leave it up in zone. His slider has interesting movement into right-handers and away from lefties. However, he notably decreases his arm speed when throwing both pitches. Overall, I think Barrios could be an impact reliever once he gets some pitching experience under his belt. Walks haven’t plagued Yhonathan’s development severely, but he has to work on control within the strike zone as well as learning how to pitch. The fact that Barrios has only struck out 6.6 batters per nine in his career indicates how little this guy knows about pitching. With his stuff, there is no other reason that he should not be dominating minor league hitters. The good news is that the intricacies of the game are meant to be learned and taught. You cannot teach a player to throw 100 miles per hour fastball with sinking movement. It will be very interesting to see how the 23-year-old’s career progresses in Milwaukee. Don’t be surprised if the newest Brewers’ prospect is wreaking havoc on the league a few years from now. And even though it’s entirely possible that Barrios fails to overcome his lack of experience, the potential of a shutdown reliever is a pretty nice return for an aging and overpaid infielder.
  13. Edited message to not offend....I would like to understand what is not to like about them....it is leaps and bounds over what has been usual uniform choice over last decade....
  14. Basesloadedbalk has it right...sickels is 1 million times more reliable than mlb pipeline, which is the Burger King of prospect rankings - full of crap with no real value....Nottingham has been incredible this year
  15. And Demi goes yard for the 2nd time tonight, with his 11th steal after he also singled......it is really ridiculous.....5 HR's and 11 steals now...and he also gunned down a runner at 2nd base
  16. I am just going to extrapolate Demi Orimoloye's batting line of 15 games/64 at bats in rookie ball and pretend he will do the same thing in the majors and have a majors line of 30 home runs and 100 steals since he has 3 HR's and 10 steals right now. Of course he would also have the unusual line of 0 walks and 190 strikeouts over the course of the season as well, but hey, take the good with the bad.
  17. Jomar Reyes is a beast.....
  18. AJ Reed was just pulled from his game with Corpus Christi.....could be something, could be nothing.....and Singleton has very little trade value around the league with his history. Remember this is a guy who has bragged about drinking an entire bottle of liquor each day for several years.... Personally I think AJ Reed has 20 times more trade value than Singleton if I may hyperbolize. Edit: Astros fans are thinking it is going to be a trade with the Padres for Justin Upton
  19. Vaughn reminds me of a 2015 version of Ricky Pierce
  20. 1. Orlando Arcia - Obvious 2. Trent Clark - Stud in the making 3. Clint Coulter - I am a Sickels guy, and he has him as a top 75 overall player 4. Michael Reed - Sickels said he would be ranked in the low 100's...really under-rated 5. Jorge Lopez - another guy brewerfan peeps are sleeping on...getting national buzz 6. Tyrone Taylor - lot of talent still...type of guy that quietly ends up as a quality starter 7. Gilbert Lara - like many, his hype is starting to make me dream big 8. Kodi Medeiros - Has a chance to be special...this may be too low, but red flags are there too 9. Devin Williams - He has done what Brewers have asked with developing other pitches 10. Nathan Kirby - screw it, I am including him...please sign today 11. Monte Harrison - some silly comments on him in this thread; in his last 38 plate appearances, 18 hits, 6 walks and 9 SB's...that is a man breaking loose 12.Victor Roache - I see a Rob Deer type of career for him...not sure how I feel about that 13. Tyler Cravy - Innings are yummy...nom, nom, nom 14. Tyler Wagner - was disappointed in debut, expected big things, now uncertain 15.Jake Gatewood - Uncertain what the future holds for him 16. Marcos Diplan - Please make the Gallardo trade look better Marcos, as it is stinker now 17. Demi Orimoloye - Power tool is potentially Gallo-ish 18. Jorge Ortega - I am fascinated by what he is doing right now as it makes little sense 19. Cy Sneed's milb picture mustache - Sneed can be ranked here too 20. Cody Ponce - Power arm with room to grow other pitches 21. Corey Knebel - Relievers are meh for me 22. Yadiel Rivera - another guy that flies under the radar 23. Tyrone Perry - I think this guy is going to be interesting to follow 24. Tucker Neuhaus - I think patience will be needed with Tuck Tuck Goose 25. Miguel Diaz - I have not forgotten you, Miguel...heal up
  21. holy cow, that is a huge overpay on our part....Reed is only about 30-50 spots lower than Renfroe on Sickels prospects ratings (said Refroe just missed his top 75, and said Reed would be in the low 100's) and Segura and Fiers on top of that? Nutty
  22. Monte Harrison 16 for his last 29 with 6 stolen bases.....woosh Dustin Houle has roughly a 1.6 OPS in his last 6 games as well...nice to see him back at it
  23. Alex Jackson pulled mysteriously last night - Mariners nation buzzing it is likely due to a trade happening
  24. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/albert-pujols--touching-gesture-for-brother-of-dodgers-outfielder-joc-pederson-033106483.html This article gives incredible pretext to what happened last night - Joc's older brother has Down's Syndrome, as does a daughter of Albert
