  1. The last 2 years Hall had an OPS versus RHP of 846 and 713. Since he is better defensively than Gamel and Branyan, they would have to bat significantly better versus RHP just to make this a breakeven situation. On top of that, even if they started vs RHP, they'd still have to face LHRP, and I could't fathom either hitting a LHP better than Hall. Judging Hall on 104 ABs this year would be rather on fair to him, and haphazard to the Brewers future. A better idea would be to find the cause of why almost every player on the roster is currently underachieving.
  2. Ya, I'll called him a DH because its the only position he could play at the MLB level right now. He threw out just 6 of 46 runners last year. He, according to BA, struggles calling games. He has big problems with pitches in the dirt. While he has a big arm, its the feet that usually make a difference in a catchers throw out %, and its questionable if Salome has the agility to make dramatic improvements in his footwork. Obviously, I hope he can make these improvements, but progress has been slow. I understand he works hard and has a thirst to improve, along with a stong arm, but so does Rickie Weeks, and Weeks is still a very poor defender. We should really continue this discussion in another thread.
  3. Oh my god ! Promote Weaver? Weaver not even good enough to keep his rotation spot in Nashville. He'll get likely get cut as soon as Steve Hammond gets bumped to AAA. Hammond has 55 Ks in 45 innings this year, with a 2.96 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP.
  4. You have to remember the cost it takes to get a closer. You don't get a closer for guys like Inman. Boston gave up 2 guys now starting for Texas just to rent Gagne. The Brewers gave up Carlos Lee to get Cordero. Atlanta gave up a starting 1B, Adam Laroche, to get Mike Gonzalez. Cinci gave up a decent SS (Felipe Lopez) and an OK RF (Austin Kearns) to get a couple of middle relievers (Bray and Majewski).
  5. The reason I'm not geeked about Salome is because he is presently a DH, and the Brewers play in the NL. If he ever becomes a tollerable catcher, I'll start to get excited. Unfortunately, he's miles away defensively. Think Johny Estrada without blocking balls in the dirt.
  6. I know you said it sarcastically, but its actually not a terrible idea. He was made a reliever because he had a dominant slider, and a good fastball that jumped to dominant as a reliever, with no 3rd pitch. Now he's junked his slider, his fastball is only average, he has a tollerable curve, and has developed an outstanding changeup. He has lost command bigtime.. He has a nice 3 pitch mix, and the regular work with throwing on the side a starter gets usually improves command. His arm might not be able to take get stretcher out longterm, but he has only a 1 year deal and is useless as is.
  7. Rivas added velocity after TJ surgury, and should some himself make a steady climb up the P50. His stuff is ow as good or better than guys like Tyson and Bryson.
  8. Lucroy entered the draft last year with questions about his defense, and he really struggled to throw out runners in college. After signing with the Brewers, Lucroy worked with roving catching instructor Charlie Greene, and improved the mechanics and footwork of his throws. Despite what BA desribes as a slightly below average arm, Lucroy threw out 43% of runners last year.
  9. Hunstsville and the rest of the Southern League is very pitcher friendly. Thats why you'll see people write, "If you can hit in the Southern League, you can hit in the Bigs." Its incredibly rare to put up numbers like Laporta and Gamel are so far.
  10. True, but this isn't removing any streaks. Its 162 straight games. Last years team compares best to the 1987 team streak. That team started out great, and were never heard from again. This team is in danger of doing the same.
  11. The Brewers were a bad team for the last 128 games of last year, and are a bad team 34 games into this year. If anything we're underreacting. I'll say it again, the teams record over the last 162 games is 75-87. Thats intollerable.
  12. Lopes and Royster managed a terribly untalented team. They were set up to fail, and did. Yost has been set up to succeed, but has failed. Big difference to me.
  13. Sounds like this team could use a good leader to get them focused again. Somebody who knows what it takes to win.
  14. Theres not an expert out there that didn't think this team couldn't have a winning record. Its 1 thing to pick the Cubs to win the division, and its another thing to say the Brewers are worse than Cubs, Cardinals and Astros, Mets, Phillies, Marlins, Braves, D-backs, and Dodgers.
  15. Chase Headley or bust.
  16. Ned Yost is 75-87 in his last 162 games.
  17. The dugout fight the Brewers had last year started when Tony Graffanino told Yost to lay off Hardy, as Yost was riding Hardy in the dugout after a misplay in the field. Estrada later explained that some of the veteran players needed to stick up for the youngsters, because Yost rode them constantly. I'm was shocked a bigger issue wasn't made about this at the time, and it certainly seems it still a problem. TooLiveBrew and myself had a long discusion about Hardy in the "lineup thread" where he predicted Hardy would have a huge jump in OBA this year.
  18. ADD Mike Hargrove to the list. Career winner, lauded for his leadership ability. He also avoids small ball, which would endear him to Doug Melvin. I think he'd jump at the chance to manage a team this talented. And by the way, Ned Yost is 75-87 in his last 162 games.
  19. I'm sticking with my Friday morning prediction. If it doesn't happen, I think we'll see more booing at Miller Park this weekend than I've ever heard in my life.Yost is easily the most hated manager in Brewer history.
  20. Because Tony Graffino told us it was after he got in a fight with Ned in the dugout last year. The fight started because Graf told Ned to stop riding Hardy. Graf was reportedly annoyed that Ned consistently rode a number of the young players.
  21. Mark Difelice has been outstanding for awhile now, and is far more deserving of an oppurtunity than Weaver.
  22. You forgot to include the part where the research also showed the hitters hit for a higher average, OBA, and slugging % in front of the pitcher. So we should be very disappointed in what Hardy has done in 2007. He's still a terrible OBA guy, just as I stated before the season. I would like to add that I should really cut Hardy some slack, as I think he's one of the players thats been hurt the most by Yost's abbrasive personality, as suggested last season by Tony Graffinino. Hardy will likely show some improvement when Yost gets fired.
  23. Freddi's teams overachieving at the MLB level while Ned's team underachieve must just be coincidence, just like when Freddi consistently won at the minor league level while Yost was a massive loser in the minors. Or at least thats the pile Doug Melvin keeps trying to feed us.
