  1. I vote to wait until moves actually have to be made, then decide. These things usually work themselves out.
  2. It seems Boras doesn't have quite the client list he has had in recent years. I've only seen his name with Pedro Alvarez, Josh Fields, Eric Hosmer, and Gerrit Cole. Has he added anyone else?
  3. They said the same things about Rickie in college. The Brewers added a trigger mechanism to his swing. It worked out fairly well, and I'm predicting we'll be saying extremely well by draft time. Hopefully we'll get a chance to do the same with Jemile, grabbing him either at 16 or 32. I just hope $150 K doesn't get in the way of signing a 1st round talent this time. It really sucks they didn't get this done in 2005, he'd look nice with that AA group.
  4. The big difference here is the D-backs bought out a year of Youngs free agency, a 6 year deal to Braun right now wouldn't do that. Obviously, without buying out a year a FA, its pointless. Also, Braun is a far superior player to Young offensively, but Young has some defensive value. Me too, because if you calculate inflation to continue on its present rate of rise, the last 3 years you have posted are significantly lower than what we could expect. Those numbers are what we'd expect to pay at present day value for Braun. I do also appreciate TooLiveBrew's angle on this though. Melvin has been routinely burned by regressing productivity from players he's given multi-year deals to. I'd rather pay extra for awesomeness, then get a decent price on mediocrity.
  5. While this is a very nice lineup, I think you might be forgetting the 2005 Nashville lineup. That team was considered the best prospect team in baseball and power the Brewers to have the 3rd ranked system in baseball. Its lineup featured the organizations #1 prospect Weeks, #2 Fielder, #6 Hart, #8 Brad Nelson, and #10 Krynzell. The Huntsville lineup features the organizations #1 prospect Laporta, #3 Escobar, #5 Gillespie, #6 Gamel, #8 Salome. However, This group of prospects have a big hand in the Brewers system being ranked just 21st overall by BA.
  6. Borseth was always a terrific interview when he was at UWGB, and I could usually care less about womens BB. This guy just pulled me in. He would get pretty emotional after a loss at UWGB too, but nobody noticed, as he only lost a few times a year. It was just amazing how he could take a bunch of girls from NE Wisconson make them into a team that could compete with anybody. I'd like to see a mens coach do that. Even Dick Bennet had to recruit Illinois and Indiana.
  7. Somewhere in the middle? Are you counting pitchers? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif 4 of the other 7 starting position players are clearly faster (Weeks, Braun, Hart, Cameron) as are bench players Counsel and Gwynn. Hall and Fielder are pretty similar to Hardy. Hall appeared to be playing heavier and running slower than usual last season. Fielder is faster than he looks (though that's not really saying much), and may even have decent speed. Kendal was clearly faster in his prime and is likely still a tick faster now. Kendal has 162 career steals with only 77 CS. Hardy has 3 steals with 4 CS in his career. Gross is likely also a tick faster. Dillon and Rivera would be the only guys one could suggest are slower than Hardy, and that's even by a fairly slim margin. His OBA was lower in 2007 than it was as a rookie. That makes it tough to say for sure that it will make a huge jump this year, especially when you look at his minor league numbers. This thread is clearly about constructing lineups. What position a player player should have no bearing on where he bats in the lineup. In constructing a lineup, we should only be comparing how players compares offensively I'm not bashing Hardy, he has good power and can be considered an above average defender, and could continue to improve if he can maintain his strength throughout the season better. He is clearly an asset to this team. I'm simply saying Hardy has never shown any of the traits desired in a table setter, and shouldn't be used in that fashion on a team as talented as this one.
  8. Hardy has never had an OBA over 327. Thats very poor, not decent. He is also one of the teams slowest baserunners. I'll be happy as long as Hardy never hits near the top of the lineup.
  9. I think that is a little strong for a player who had an OPS under 750 2 of the last 3 years. Blaylock did hit well last year, but it was in only 208 ABs. His highest full season OPS is 872, and they was all the way back in 2003.Thats too long ago to even be relevent anymore. Also, remember that his stats are skewered upward from playing in the games 2nd best hitters park. If the Brewers do aquire Blaylock, I'd also like to get Gerald Laird in the deal. He may be the best throwing catcher in the game.
  10. Seems like the Brewers could deal Sheets for a couple of top youngsters, then flip them with a youngster of there own for Bedard.
  11. I had an absolutly terrible hangover, and a friend convinced me to take a canoe ride with him. Reluctently, I went. Ten feet from shore he tipped the canoe, dumping us into a 65 degree lake. My condition was greatly improved almost instantly, which kept me from punching him in the face. He reasoned that the cold water constricted the blood vessels, helping squeeze out the toxins. I have no idea if this is true, but I've been taking cold showers the morning after ever since, and in my mind it works. I also drink Gatorade, 2 Advill, and a vitamin before bead. I also turn the thermostat down, as I seem to run hot after I drink, which causes me to wake early. Like others have said, sex helps, and I'd like to add that its most effective with another person.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif All these hangover remedies have lead to a pretty serious drinking problem.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. Weeks was a high school LF, and spent a good portion of his freshman season at Southern playing CF. It a big reason why Weeks was/is so poor defensively at 2B, he lacks experience there. Weeks in LF and Johnson at 2B would be better defensively than Weeks at 2B and Johnson in LF, IMO. Weeks has a much stronger arm than Johnson also, which would be better used in the OF.
  13. So your saying 1 slump completely erases an entire careers worth of work, uncluding a 898 OPS the previous season, as a SS?
  14. It's unfair to compare Laird to Estrada by only looking at their offensive abilities, and only looking at their past performances. Laird is just entering his prime, and is arguably the best throwing catcher in the game. Estrada is fat, broken down, and rapidly declining, and is arguably the worst throwing catcher in the game. Laird would be a terrific addition to the Brewers, and I would think Texas would still covet Tony Gwynn Jr. The Rangers also have a deep bullpen, while having massive holes in there starting rotation. The Brewers have a surplus of mediocre starting pitchers. These teams couldn't match up better for a trade, it will be a shame if they don't make a deal.
  15. Wickman outpitched Cordero in 2005 and 2006, and Cordero is a fine closer. This move absolutly shocks me. The Brewers should aquire him, if for no other reason than to keep him from the Cubs.
  16. Just as I predicted when I started this thread, Capuano has fallen apart again in the 2nd half. He better be gone before the 2nd half next year.
  17. The Brewers didn't need a 13th arm anymore because they have 2 off days in the nexy 13 days, and roster expand in 17 days. McClung, Bray, Aquino, Salas, and Difilice can all do what Spurling was doing, and hopefully one of them will step up and actually be useful.
  18. The worst part of this deal is they gave it to him for the career year he is having, but his numbers have always fallen off dramatically in the 2nd half, so his great year might not even end up being a great year.
  19. As many have suggested, "mystery injury + rehab assignment" seems the easiest/most prudent course of action. Like I said, this isn't fantasy world, you can't just dream up injuries to put guys on the DL. The Brewers have only 2 options, cut him, or fix him. I'll take the latter.
  20. No way Wise should even be in the majors atm, So what do you propose, we cut him? He is out of options. This isn't fantasy world, Ned has to get him fixed, as he can be a major asset to this team. There just isn't very many games this team is down 8, so up 5 is the best we can do.
  21. I've always tryied to compare how players play under 1 manager compared to the rest of there careers. Under Lopes/Royster, pretty much every player had the worst seasons of there career.
  22. Linebrink was lights out today, he couldn't pitch another inning? Linebrink was leading off the bottom of the 8th, would you have let him bat? I'd go to the pinch hitter. Linebrink was already pitching in back to back games, I don't think it would be a good idea to push him farther, especially with a 5 run lead. If Linebrink goes 2 today, he isn't available again until Wednesday. That would mean we could be stuck with going to Wise on Tuesday, that could be a 1 run game. Project number 1 when the plane lands in Colorado has got to be having Wise throw a simulated game to get his head back. Just don't have him pitch to Fielder, if Matty hits him, Prince would likely charge the mound.
  23. I think he'll miss significant time with this. Even if he comes back quickly, it will effect his game. IMO, he'll be out a month.
  24. I have full confidence in him heating up any day now. The cool thing is, like another slow starter, Reggie Jackson, he could have the oppurtunity to carry his late season run into October, and really make a name for himself.
  25. Like I've said before, if you think Suppan is overpaid, just wait until you see what FA pitchers get next offseason. Suppan will become a bargain. All the factors are in place for the FA market to continue to escalate wildly, with no end in sight.
